Title: the new American Werewolf in London DVD
Description: ..anything new on it?

I was trying to tell by the Amazon description but couldn't figure out if the new DVD has anything new on it or is the same as the previous DVD from a few years back. So any new features on this new disc?

Dvdtalk has a write up on the edition that includes a look at the extras (port of the old ones and two new ones):
An American Werewolf in London: Full Moon Edition

This is probably worth having as much for the 97-minute documentary as for the movie itself.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll pick this one up since this is one of my favorites. Dang double dipping!

| The main English Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack is ported over from the previous release. I read that this mix includes newly-added effects for the surrounds (well, they were new in 2001 or so). This makes sense, since the film was originally released in mono (!). |
I hate this, particularly the reviewer's blase attitude about it. All the gunshot sounds (which occur at key dramatic moments, remember) have been replaced. People had a fit about the Texas Chain Saw audio a couple years back... but does anyone say boo over this?

I did in my review, which was also coincidentally posted at DVD Talk:
http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/38554/ameri...oon-edition-an/Re-reading the audio part, I ramble more than I should, but I think I made the point that it's very not very good.
I go more in depth about "Beware the Moon" too, if anyone's bored.

I still have my ancient snapper-case Artisan DVD of AWL, because it has the teaser trailer on it. I can understand Universal not including the regular release trailer because it would require reclearing "Bad Moon Rising," but as I recall, there's no needle-drop music in the teaser, and I don't understand why it's never been included on any subsequent DVD reissue.

I have the old Artisan disc, too. I kind of held on to it just for the teaser, but does it also contain the original unaltered mono-track for the film itself? Haven't watched the film in years, but I do hate altered soundtracks.

Amazon now has this listed as "Item Under Review". Anyone know what the problem is?

A warning to region 2 buyers: Universal's new special edition is missing a crucial scene at the 1.15 mark (where David calls home from a telephone box, prior to his abortive suicide bid) - coincidentally at the point of a chapter change.
Will Universal issue corrected and repressed discs? Who knows. (The region 1 edition is apparently fine.)
But in comparing the new disc to the older R2 special edition, it appears that the transfers on both discs are identical, as are the menu screens and chapter stops (and screen captures used to illustrate same). The only minor differences are: original disc has no English/German option before the main menu loads, and of course the options are slightly different on the main menu (since Universal has crammed some of the minor special features formerly on disc 2 onto disc 1). Same music, same animation.
So as I originally suspected, owners of the previous 2-discer could simply swap the flawed disc 1 of the new SE for the older disc 1. (That's assuming Universal don't admit their mistake and issue repressed discs.)
Has anyone managed to confirm that the new SE carries a brand-new transfer...? (DVD Beaver seems not to have included a comparison as yet.)

No... I saw that, too. I was gonna order it from Amazon. Wound up going to my local Barnes and Noble.
