Title: New 3D process sees Tony Anthony back in theaters
Description: COMIN' AT YA! is coming at ya..

Anthony Thorne - August 26, 2009 10:41 PM (GMT)
Remastered, in surround sound, with a new 3D process featured.

Official COMIN AT YA! rerelease site..

A thread on the LoveLockandLoad forum notes that the current Rhino DVD doesn't even correctly replicate the original 3D format correctly. Regardless, 'Noir 3D' is new to me.

It's fairly simple work (though a little pricey) to have this film converted to the newer digital formats. They'd need 2K or 1080p transfers of each eye, to begin, but some of the original convergence errors could be fixed while creating the digital cinema file, so if done right, it could look better than it did originally.

The site makes a big deal about them spending $700,000 on R&D on this 'never before done' process, which is dubious at best, wasteful at worst. I'd estimate it more at around $100-$125K, unless the original film transfer materials were in horrendous shape and needed major cleanup and restoration. And that's at bigger facilities.

The Rhino DVD was crummy red/blue anaglyph. This was originally a polarized (grey glasses) presentation in full color as was TREASURE OF THE FOUR CROWNS.

One thing's for sure, I bet it's better than James Cameron's AVATAR!

Anyway, it'll be a real treat to see this back on the big-screen, and converted to digital, it should look brighter and better than ever before, especially, as I'm told any convergence problems have been fixed in the digital conversion. It should be a blast with the appropriate audience.

It'd be nice to see TREASURE OF THE FOUR CROWNS as well.

Of all the films to get a 3d rerelease, even from that era. why this? The 3d on it was great, but the film itself is rather dull.

Now, if someone would release FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN...ah, that would be quite cool.
