Hey people! How you doing? I'm glad I got some responses back on my message on logans run. Some very good ideas were presented.
I got some good ideas from the things you guys mentioned like getting out of the city at the end and the old man being the only outside.
Is there a chatoom here were people can get together and talk over logans stuff-man I need to get a life! Bad enough I want to date Jess! Hell she probably would good catch!. Anyway I decided to write another message this time on comparing
logans to Farenhiet 451 which are probably my two favorite sci fi of all time but I could change my mind tomorrow.
There were a lot of similarities between the two films I observed while I was watching them so I thought it would be a
good disscussion

First off the reason I dug farenheit 451 was the story. I read the book and then found out there was a movie made
on it from the 60s. Man I loved it! It had a such a great interesting story with real characters and moody creepy
atmosphere that gave you the feeling this was a cold lifeless society. Guess when no one is allowed to read and think
for themselves people become zombies and loose any type of feeling and emotion. The firemen seemd real stupid! When that old lady decided to
die in her house with her books that was horrible. I can't belive the firemen let her do it instead of throwing her out. Old Montog
came around though he was just like everyone which was basically why books were banned: being different creates problems and people
can't get along. But after he meets Clarisse he starts realizing being like everyone else is boring and lifeless. He actually starts
reading the books he is suppsoed to be burning. I like the ending when he joins those rebels who memorize books in case they ever get
caught. I wonder if they ever thought of trying to take over the city. Probably not they wouldn't have the strength or artillary

Well next I thought I would comapre a few things I noticed between Logans and farenheit. First off both stories had societys somewhere in the
future where some sort of higher control kept everyone in line. They both made sure everyone would be happy in providing
mindless entertainment so people wouldn't think about anything else. The city in logans had malls, loveshop, plastic sugerys.
Farenheit had all those government tv shows that people watched all day plus drugs to keep motivated. Next is both societys
had groups of servicemen who kept law and order and would punish those who didn't follow the rules. This type of story of a kind
of controlled society has in been in si fi for yrs. Hell look at 1984. Both have men who work for these groups of keeping law in order
suddently meet two women that get them to stop and think about what is going on, and in the process make a change
for the better-although Jess is def cooler then clarisse. Sorry Julia!. And finally both men become fugitives from the society they once worked
and escape to the outside. I think Logan was cooler then old Mon. He had more personality and pep. Montog was always's bland
and boring-guess that's what happens when you neve read! Even after met clarrise he still was sort of a zombie. Logan needs
to take himout for a beer!

Now for a few differences I noticed in the films. First off Farenhiet was def a old school dsytopian sci fi deal. A good story with
interesting characters and dialouge plus a errie moody feeling that made you think this was a horrible place to be.
You could just feel the emptienes and coldness of the area by looking at the peoples faces and seeing how zombie like they were. There was no special effects or big tech scenes to enhance you, just the feeling from watching
the film was enough to pull you in. Logans on the other hand was def old school dystopian deal also. A cut off closed society where
everyone was the same and had to follow the rules, no one thought for themselves and was devoid of any feeling.
You could really feel the sparks between Jess and Logan. They were the first two to actually feel something more then
just mindless sex which what the city set up for. Everyone in the city were pretty much spoiled rotten babies who had everything handed
to them. So after Jess and Logan make it outside they feel things that no one inside had ever experienced before.
But where logans is different is it relied a lot more on special effects big tech images to try and dazzle audiences as
well as making them think and feel what is going on. Farenheit pretty much just was lots of cool dialouge and interesting
story where Logan got adventerous and action pakced at times esp when they were trying to get out of the city. So in a way Logan
is sandwitched between the old school of sci fi such as cool interesting ideas, good story and dialouge to a pre step in the way sci fi
would change with more special effects and action packed adventure which star wars would take over a yr later. Most of the
new films though would never have the feelings that you got from characters in the dsytopian flicks. How much feeling
was there in Alien! I think the filmaker for logans was trying to get sci fi out to a more mainstream audience in special effects
and cool big sets was a way of doing it. Hey nothing wrong with that! You didn't have people lined up around the block
for soylent green! Ya know I read on the web a lot of people cut logans down beacause of how chessy the speical effects
were. People have to realize that back in 76 and before things weren't as advanted as they are today. You could say
the same things about Jaws and Alien. Oh well anyway I hope I made a few good points and if you agree or disagree
with anything I wrote please write back and I will respond soon. Oh one more thing Clarisse was sweet and cool, def
a pretty smart cookie. She got old Montog to turn around, it's a shame they never fell in love. But she is nowhere
near my Jess! Jess was alot more spunky and livley! She got pissed and upset and had some backbone! Jess is one up on
old clarisse! Have a good one people. Laters peace

Hey people! How you all doing? This is Jessicasguy repling on my own message. Just curious how come no know one
wrote back on my message of logan and montog. I thought I would get a few responses back with some ideas on it.
No one agreed that there were some similarites between the two films. I thought I put logans in place when I mentioned
that it was sanwitched between old sch dystopian sci of dark stuff right on earth to new sci fi of special effects and big tech images to
dazzle you as well as make you feel and think. Was my message boring or was it way off? If so let me know pleaase. I was
just wondering why no replied back. I know there were other films that had those types of ideas and similar plotlines but I thought these
two were really neck and neck. Hey write back with any comments good or bad I would love to hear them. Take care. Jess when are
we doing coffee! I'm still waiting!

I usually compare the films THX-1138 and Blade Runner as having similar themes to Logan's Run. THX-1138 a little more so.

In THX-1138, Robert Duvall must escape an underground civilization, where the lie is that all the people below are slaves to the socitey and computer. The 'workers' must be constantly sedated so that this lie would never be discovered - that there is a world of freedom above ground. Duvall stops taking his medication, begins to sober up and discovers the lie. He then proceeds to escape the city with his 'girlfriend' and a few others who decide to run.

In Blade Runner, Harrison Ford must hunt down and kill android 'runners' who are trying to seek out their maker and who desire that their current Five Year life span is way too short. They are running because they want to live longer.

I do see your comparisons between the world of Logans Run and that of F451. I've never seen any of the movie versions and read the book a long time ago. I never really made the connection between LR and F451, but there are some similarities - as you mention above. The one that strikes me the most is that Montag is a Fireman whose job it is to burn the books. However, later in the story, he discovers the reading is FUNdemental :) and goes against his job requirments - just as Logan does as a former Sandman.

Anyway - nice comparisons - with a few more to boot. I'll eventually check out the film F451 one of these days.
