Steve - June 22, 2005 01:49 PM (GMT)
Unbelievably absent from the list.........
"There is no Sanctuary........."
WTF!!!!????
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8304725/If they can have Soylent Green's line in this list they can most certainly have this memorable line from Logans Run!!!
And what the heck is "Nobody puts Baby in a corner" (Dirty Dancing) and the "Cinderella Story" montage (Caddyshack) doing in this list - to name a few?????????? Unreal!!
Logan5 - June 26, 2005 01:43 PM (GMT)
Some of my personal favorite movie lines that did NOT make the list :(
"See moe foe, butta lay it to da bone. Jack me up. Tight me?" - Airplane
"Excuse me stewardess, I speak jive" - Airplane
"Man's got to know his limitations" - Magnum Force
"The bastard son of 100 maniacs" -- Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors
"Don't f*** with me fellas!!" -- Mommie Dearest

Here's another one:
"Inconceivable!" - The Princess Bride
Anyone got some more???????
Logan5 - July 5, 2005 11:03 PM (GMT)
"This means something" - Close Encounters of the Third Kind
"Damn you! Damn you all to Hell!!" - Planet of the Apes
Francis 8 - September 1, 2005 04:35 AM (GMT)
Actually, Logan 5, the quote from Planet Of The Apes is this.
"Uhh, Damn you! Goddamn you all to hell!"
At least that's what was written in Rod Serling's and Michael Wilson's screenplay for the original 1968 film.

Good catch, Francis 8!!
I forgot the 'God-' in front --
It's weird how you can see a film over and over again, and think it says something, only to find out that it actually says a little something else.
Case in point, "Casablanca"
Nowhere in that film does Ilsa ever say, "Play it again, Sam." yet it's that line that is often the most remembered and quoted - albeit - incorrectly. I think that actual spoken line was "Play it, Sam. Play 'As Time Goes By'."
Francis8 - September 2, 2005 12:01 AM (GMT)
That's interesting about Cassablanca. I didn't even know that. I'll have to watch the film again and look for that scene.
I'm still amazed at how that quote from Planet Of The Apes managed to get past the censors and other studio executives. Then again, it was the late Sixties, and things were starting to change as far as Cinema goes. I'd have to say that Sixties Cinema was the turning point when it came to subject matter and content. Even the classic 1968 film was rated G. I'm surprised it was not PG rated.
Anyway, here are some of the best movie quotes in movie history. At least in my opinion.
1. "Open The Pod Bay Doors, please, Hal." from 2001: A Space Odyssey
2. "Somewhere In the Universe there has to be something better than Man." from Planet Of The Apes
3. "If they move, kill them!" from The Wild Bunch
4. "Run, Runner!" from Logan's Run
5. "Is it safe?" from Marathon Man
6. "I am your father!" from The Empire Strikes Back
7. Roy Batty's moving speech at the end of Blade Runner(Rutger Hauer should have been both nominated and won the Oscar for that classic role).
8. "Catch you later!" from Blue Thunder
9. "Go ahead, make my day!!!" from Dirty Harry
10. "My name is Tony Montana!!! Say hello to my little friend!!!" from Scarface
11. "I'm too old for this @!?*#%" from Lethal Weapon
12. "Dead Or Alive, you're coming with me!" from RoboCop
Those are the only quotes I can think of at the moment. What do you think about these 12?

I forgot one more great movie line left off of AFIs list:
"It's good to be the king!" from History of the World, Part I
The Running Man - September 7, 2005 08:56 PM (GMT)
Captain Benjamin L. Willard:...Saigon...still in Saigon..., Been here a week now, waiting for a mission, getting softer. Every minute I stay in this room, I get weaker, and every minute Charlie squats in the bush, he gets stronger.......Apocalypse Now (1979)
Logan5 - September 8, 2005 12:06 AM (GMT)
Francis 8 -
You list some very memorable ones! In particular, numbers 1, 4, 5, and 9 (some of my all time favorites).
My other favorite Clint Eastwood lines are:
"Man's got to know his limitations" - Magnum Force
"Swell" - Sudden Impact
and the all time classic Dirty Harry line:
"I know what you're thinking. Did he fire six shots or only five? Well to tell you the truth, I kinda lost track myself in all this excitement. But being this is a .44 magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question... Do I feel lucky? Well do you, punk?"

Running Man...
I also like the line that shortly follows...
"I wanted a mission. And for my sins, they gave me one" - Apocalypse Now
Ron - September 13, 2005 05:38 PM (GMT)
one of my favorite lines is from the movie free enterprise."the trouble with you kids today is that you think science fiction started in 1977 with star wars"
Francis 8 - September 16, 2005 04:32 AM (GMT)
I just thought of another one. When Tom Berenger is killed by Charlie Sheen near the end of Platoon. When he says "Do it..." and Charlie kills him with three lead slugs to both the chest and heart, that's a memorable moment and movie line.
"Do it...." - Staff Sergeant Robert Barnes from Platoon.
And who could ever forget Charlton Heston's famous line from Soylent Green.
"SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE!!!!!" - Detective Thorn from Soylent Green.
Most of all, the line of dialogue used in Superman - The Movie
"Easy miss, I've got you." - Superman
"You've got me? WHO'S GOT YOU?!" - Lois Lane
:)
Logan5 - November 8, 2005 01:09 AM (GMT)
Ron (in a different thread) made me remember this classic movie line:
"Warriors, come out to plaaaaaaaaaaayyyyaaaaaa...." - The Warriors - 1979
Ron - November 9, 2005 03:49 AM (GMT)
remember this from moonraker "LOOK AFTER MR BOND,SEE THAT SOME HARM COMES TO HIM"
Francis 8 - November 10, 2005 12:12 AM (GMT)
How about the one in Moonraker, at the end where Bond and Holly are making love in zero gravity?
Holly - "Take me around the world again one more time."
Or the one in Saturn 3 where Harvey Keitel says to Farrah Fawcett:
"You have a great body. May I use it?"
I'm surprised Harvey didn't get clobbered for that! :guns:

Excellent line, Francis 8.
I had forgotten that one from Saturn 3!
Lee 13 - March 16, 2006 04:22 PM (GMT)
Funniest line I recall from a movie was from Burt Reynolds, and I think the movie was Sharkey's Machine, or Gator??
A teenaged girl is coming on to him, and he says:
"Hell, I've got socks older than you."
