I got some news back from Paul McComas on how to place your own order for an autographed copy of Paul's upcoming book.

Below are the details (from Paul himself):

*************************************************************

Hi John,

I'll be selling autographed/inscribed copies at a discounted price of $25 each, plus $2 postage (the book -- my first hardcover -- retails for $28). Checks should be made out to me (Paul McComas) & sent to me at 909 Greenwood St. 3D, Evanston, IL 60201. People can pre-order right now; the novel is out on Feb. 1.

The book has a wonderful Foreword by Nolan & recently got a rave review from Publishers Weekly. (Also a killer blurb from Eric Greene, author of "Planet of the Apes" As American Myth.)

There's been a lot of early interest within the film/TV industry. I think a deal may be close.

Because the young protagonist is a sci-fi fan, he sees the world through that lens; thus, there are numerous tie-ins w/ & references to Planet of the Apes, Logan's Run, Star Trek, Star Wars, Close Encounters, The Andromeda Strain, etc. within the narrative. Fittingly, the first public reading/signing event will be not at a book store, but at Capricon 2008 in Chicago (Feb. 14-17), where I'll also be hosting the Indie Film Fest & sitting on / moderating several panels (www.capricon.org).

Here's a great little blurb about Paul's "Planet of the Dates" novel....

PLANET OF THE DATES follows the largely comedic exploits of Phil
Corcoran, a science-fiction-obsessed teen stumbling toward
adulthood in Milwaukee during the summer of 1980. The time period
is well-chosen, for Phil’s own transition coincides with a cultural
shift: from Carter to Reagan; from disco to punk; from the last
gasp of the Age of Aquarius to the era of “Greed is good.” As the
story unfolds, Phil -— who himself is very much a product of the
1970s -- ushers in the new decade in some apt and telling ways.

Even more than the culture, though, it’s the characters that count
here: the naïve yet willful Phil, who makes amusing, zero-budget
Super-8 sci-fi “epics” for kicks, and whose hormones and heart fuel
myriad schemes geared toward obtaining hot sex and true love (in no
particular order); Stefanie Slocum, the clever young
actress-in-training who auditions Phil for the role of her
first-ever boyfriend; and Cheryl Jantz, the dazed yet desirable
“stoner girl” who rejects Phil as too square...then changes her
mind. Beyond this basic triangle are quirky supporting players -—
Phil’s friends, his parents, his brother, his boss, and even
(briefly) an already-confused Ronald Reagan! -— who lend the
ever-surprising narrative some color and humor of their own.

Enjoy!!
