Title: Question about sequels

MaryMary5 - May 31, 2007 05:36 AM (GMT)
I just read that there is talk of ANOTHER Terminator movie. According to starPulse.com there is talk of a new movie due in 2009, but with no Gov. Schwarzeneger. Also, there is the "Sarah Conner Chronicles" with Lena Heady in the title role - not Linda Hamilton.

So, my question is: how do you feel when they take an excellent film or series and try to get blood forom a stone using different actors in well- known parts? Personally, I am not a fan of continuing something with replacement actors. Honestly, "Bewitched" (the original) barely got away with rplacing Darren. ;)

Doing a complete remake is one thing (ie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory). However, continuing something with new faces as if it didn't matter isn't worth my time or money. IMHO

Sorry this is so random. It's very late.

Hi Mary Mary 5,

I have not heard of Terminator 4 plans. I have heard of the Sarah Connor Chonicles which is true. Fox has picked that up as a mid-season replacement.

"So, my question is: how do you feel when they take an excellent film or series and try to get blood forom a stone using different actors in well- known parts?"

I'm not sure what you mean. You mean different actors in the same role?

Well ... this happens all the time doesn't it ???

Can you please be more specific? Like for Logan we have Michael York and Gregory Harison ??? Pretty much unavoidable ...

I guess my problem is when studios want to "expand" a series and they can't get the original actors to reprise their roles in the continuation. That's what I find annoying.
Yes Michael York did the movie and Gregory Harrison the TV series, but I looked at them as 2 separate things. If they decided to do "Logan's World" (as a movie) without Michael York, I wouldn't bee interested. (Granted this would have been years ago.)
Another example would be the Harry Potter series. If the original actors who portray Harrry, Hermione, and Ron didn't choose to finish the series I would have no desire to see the final films.
Hope that clears things up. :)

Mary Mary 5 I think get it: you want the orginal film actor in the film roles.

By that logic , if you were a POTA fan you skipped Beneath the POTA because Roddy McDowall wasn't in it.

Or, if you were a 007 fan, you haven't watched a 007 film sine YOLT ???

Is that right?

Hi Steve 4. Thanks for your replies. You do have a valid point in questioning my logic. Unfortunately, I don't seem to be doing such a good job at conveying my thoughts. Anyway, here goes.

You used the example of POTA. Sorry, you have me on that one because it was never a fav. (Don't homer me. LOL )

As for James Bond, for me each film is an enity unto itself. I can overlook the different actors because in this particular instance I can see Agent 007 as just a no. and who's to say the name doesn't come with the no. ( ie. MIB Agents J & K).

I think my issue comes with the films that I have come to enjoy. It has to do with the dynamics of the actors and how they draw me into the film and are able to convince me, as an audience member, that they are their character (for at least 2 hours).

As I said before, I don't mind remakes, because I can look at them as seperate entities. I just don't care for "continuations" with new actors in main roles and we are supposed to just keep going.

Please know that I a not knocking anyone who doesn't have aproblem with this issue. We are all entitled to our opinions - this just happens to be mine and I was curious as to waht others thought.

Again, thanks for your reply and I hope this answer come across a little bit better.

I guess you're skipping the next Hulk movie then as every part has been recast.

MaryMary5 - July 10, 2007 11:58 PM (GMT)
Hi Steve 4 :hi:

Don't Homer me, but I wouldn't be going to the Hulk anyway. Sorry to say, but I was never a huge Hulk fan.

Forgive me David Banner. ;)

Have a great day. Keep running.

:) MaryMary5 I will never homer you. Runner don't have homers only Sandmen.

I have no problem with your issue, I think it's valid. I was just trying to give examples other than the ones you state in your earlier posts but I guess I failed? :dunno:

Well MaryMary5 it's happened again. The Punisher has been recast for the sequel. You won't care about that one either I guess ...?

MaryMary5 - August 8, 2007 03:17 AM (GMT)
Hi Steve4. :hi:

No , you didn't fail. I understand your point and think it is totally valid.

As far as "The Punisher" - I don't know. Maybe as I age I'm beginning to soften up a bit. We'll just have to wait and see.

Keep running. :)
