I was looking through the "Logan's Run" comics that Marvel Comics made in 1976/1977 and I found it interesting that they included all the deleted scenes in the movie, from the opening scene where Francis kills a Runner and the crowd cheers to Logan and Jessica posing for Box.
When the Marvel comics originally came out, I thought they were good but not much more than that. I don't think I even noticed the inclusion of those deleted scences.
Looking at them now, I realize that they are damn near perfect. Great art, great writing, including deleted scences, setting up a logical aftermath to the end of the film, etc.
If only they had continued beyond issue 7.
The Marvel Comics' LR writers and artists must have either seen the uncut version of Logan's Run or had the uncut screenplay and/or storyboards while working on this comic series.
The closeup of the dead runner's black crystal as it fades out and into the white crystal of the baby in Nursery, just as it had apparantly appeared in the Uncut version of the film - tells me they either based their comic off of the uncut print or the actual shooting screenplay of the film.
Here's the rundown of cut movie scenes that appear in the LR Marvel comics:
Issue #1
The Opening Francis 'Hunt' Scene
Francis and Logan 'running' into Francis' girl outside Carrousel
Issue #2
The Sandman Gym and Exercise Room
Issue #3
No new deleted scenes added - EXCEPT -- the entire Love Shop Scene has been SKIPPED!! Sacrilege!!
Issue #4
The Box Ice Sculpture Scene
Issue #5
No new deleted scenes added
These Marvel comics are great! I thought George Perez did an outstanding job with his art with the first five issues (the movie issues)! Author David Kraft also did a great job of telling the story and 'filling -in' tons of extra original dialogue that makes the comic so much fun to read, even today!
I have all five issues. I picked them up at the Toronto Comic Con this summer. :D
Just to clarify for the collectors out there:
Marvel's Logan's Run issues #1 through #5 covered the movie story line in comic book format.
Issues #6 and #7 went beyond the movie and offered a new storyline of life outside the Domes.
The Marvel Logan's Run comic book series was canceled after issue #7.
