Seems it may indeed be a little too early to tell what's going on. In any case - it probably will NOT be happening any time soon.....

Singer's on the project...now he's out...no wait, now he's back on.

I'm exhausted. :surrender:

The Running Man - July 5, 2006 01:45 PM (GMT)
I said it once and I'll say it again, I like Singer very much, I think he's an excellent director. But if he's gonna do the re-make I'd prefer he put all other obligations aside and consintrate on this project alone. This movie is too important, its NOT JUST ANOTHER RE-MAKE. B)

He's In... No, He's Out ...No wait... He's In...Arghhh, He's Out. :dunno:

June 26, 2006 - Brian Singer, director of X-Men and this summer's Superman, has confirmed that he'll be taking a rest from filmmaking - and that means he won't be a part of the Logan's Run remake he'd been planning to shoot.
"…At the moment I'm buying myself sort of a vacation of the mind," Singer explained to Dark Horizons <http://www.darkhorizons.com/news06/super4.php>. "I need to because Superman and all the things I was doing simultaneously with this film were a monumental stress to me, both physically and mentally… I have to take a mental break and actually not have any scheduled demands. I'll probably want to go back to work at some point but for Logan's Run, that's a huge movie, potentially a huge movie and I was not ready to dive into it."

In fact, Singer isn't even set on making the Superman sequel - a nearly sure thing. It all depends on how he feels after his vacation.

Logan's Run is to be based on the 1976 science fiction of the same name - a tale of a society that kills off its citizens as they turn 21. On the eve of his final birthday, one man decides to escape.

James McTeigue (V for Vendetta) has been suggested as a possible replacement for Singer on Logan's Run. Stay tuned to find out what develops!

It may sound crazy, but Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich would be a good choice for a Logan's Run remake. They've worked together before.

Singer sounds like he's still heading the Logan's Run remake, but in an interview posted yesterday on slashfilm.com, he's sounding like it may not happen for quite some time if Superman Returns 2 gets green-lighted.... :shake:

On the other hand, if the Superman sequel does NOT get greenlit, Logan's Run would be dead anyway; as Bryan Singer's career would be considered over.

Unless, of course, Warners decides to get someone other than Bryan Singer to direct Logan's Run, such as John McTiegue. Fair enough, but Warners could have already done so by now if they had wanted to. At this point, I fear the worst.

Singer is now signed up for another Superman flick...

Singer's Superman Sequel Deal Confirmed
Source: Variety October 30, 2006

Variety has confirmed that Bryan Singer has signed a deal with Warner Bros. Pictures to direct and produce a sequel to Superman Returns, with Legendary Pictures expected to co-finance.

The film is tentatively intended for release in summer 2009, although the studio stressed that there's not even a script or budget yet.

The sequel is apparently at the very beginning of the development process and, as with any other project, there are any number of factors that must be addressed before it is greenlit.

While Superman Returns wasn't the performer the studio had hoped for, it has earned more than $390 million worldwide and WB and Legendary say they will still turn a profit from the film.

The two companies are sure to insist that the sequel's production budget comes in under $200 million, adds the trade.

In terms of casting, Warner Bros. has an option on Superman Returns star Brandon Routh.

Yes. Superman sequel has been offically appoved, while Logan's Run has not been mentioned one way or the other. I fear that this is sadly dead. I heard rumors that Warners would rather do Speed Racer as it's family friendly.

The Running Man - January 5, 2007 10:02 PM (GMT)
I'm not sure why Singer would want to do another one, his first attempt was mediocre at best... With the exception of the Air Plane scene at the beggining, it was a pretty lame movie. In fact I fell asleep watching it. :zzzz:

Steve4 - January 15, 2007 04:53 AM (GMT)
Regardless of how Bryan Singer feels, Warners wants another Superman sequel from him, and they will get it. They also want Speed Racer too, not Logan's Run.

Logan5 - January 16, 2007 02:15 PM (GMT)
It's a shame that LR is being put back on the back burner while Singer works on and gets to finish all his other projects, including the Superman sequel (although I agree with Running Man - I thought his 'Superman Returns' was pretty lame. Nothing new -- been there, done that.... :zzzz: )

Well, here's to another 5 years of waiting....

If the remake does happen they should get :ph43r: Quentin Tarantino to do the film. I believe he is a filmmaker with the ability to establish a pulse & create the unescapable desire to explore the atmosphere, run throughout the many levels of the story without any restraint just as the creators of the original film did.

His oddball casting choices gets unpredictable, outstanding, overall memorable performances & in no small part due to Tarantino's masterfully written exchanges featured in his previous films. His extraordinary appreciation of the decade of the original film can indentify without taking the low road of tastleless dialouge rips from Father & other uncalled for cliques or excessive nodding. This also may allow him the insight to work with the production designers to create a world visually remenicent with the past film, but at the same time appearing convincely ultra modern & without the abuse of CGI technology.

A science fiction film would be a difficult challenge, a new plateau & a natural evolution for him as a writer/director. I believe those combinations would drive him into producing a very surprising, exciting, uncomprising & satisfying version of Logan's Run that Singer could never hope to match.

 A 3 hr. epic :banned: R Rated LR :sandman: with lots boobies  & at least one 23rd Century :angryfire: orgy would be just right!

Quentin may yet get to enjoy a few brews in the company of Ridley Scott without getting his lights punched out if successful.
:alc:

:rip: Maybe it's for the best that Bryan Singer :zzzz: ran away, as I can't stand any of his films & his arse kissin' ways.

It sure doesn't get us any closer to a new & fully restored SE HD-DVD of the original film (with the Jenny Agutter 1975 Knickers Reel bonus disc) , but I don't think that Bryan would be able to take LR all the way anyways now that he is the top dog of the rebooted & now oddly bizarre Superman franchise.

I do have to thank Bryan for at least getting that :censored: Superman sequel done so I could finally get my Donner Cut of Superman II.

:order: Mr. Nolan renew with :ph43r: Tarantino in 2007!

 I guess somebody should 1st. see if they'd do it eh?

Steve4 - February 5, 2007 01:54 AM (GMT)
Don't you guys get it? Warners does NOT care. If they did, Logan's Run would have started production last fall. That did NOT happen. Singer wanted a rest, and he got one. Warners wants another Superman sequel, and they will eventually get one fron Singer. Warners wants Speed Racer and they will one day get that too. Warners could have found another director. They did not, as they no longer care about Logan's Run. Put a fork in it, it's done, people.

At this point, someone should ask Mr. Nolan about Warner's Logan's Run option.

Logan5 - February 15, 2007 01:48 PM (GMT)
Looks like the Wachowski brothers (of The Matrix fame) have moved into the offices that once housed Bryan Singer's Logan's Run pre-production spaces to begin work on their green-lighted Speed Racer project.

Loved the comment on the now-defunct Logans Run project.

Instead of Run, Logan, Run --- it's now Go, Speed Racer Go!!!

Steve4 - February 16, 2007 01:53 PM (GMT)
Hate to say "I told you so.", but I did ... in my last three posts. I tried to warn you guys. Oh well. Logan5 now has has proof. :(

The only hope now is that when Warner's option expires, they will not renew and Mr. Nolan can find another production company.

Uncut - February 16, 2007 10:52 PM (GMT)
I hope they don't renew, especially if they thought to do a twisted Disney version.

:sandman: Logan's Run needs to go hardcore.
