Title: George Clayton Johnson's Logan's Run Sequel

From what I understand, Nolan and Johnson had a gentleman's agreement, i. e., though we won't write any more Logan novels together, we each will enjoy the privilege of writing independant sequels without having to acknowledge the other's work.

Nolan has written two sequel novels and a novelette.

Johnson has said that he has written approximately 50 pages (12,500 words) of a sequel of his own to the orginal novel. At various times, I've heard Johnson refer to this as Jessica's Run and as LastDay. If he ever finishes it, I hope he chooses the latter title. It's better, though the other will immediately harken back to the original book, and would be more recognizable to the general public.

So, has anybody any clue in what direction Johnson is going with his sequel?

Johnson's style is so different to Nolan's. Johnson's prose is lean, almost nondescriptive compared to Nolan's effusive word-pictures. I've always assumed Nolan did the lion's share of the writing of the original.

Just my opinion, no disrespect meant to GCJ.

That's my understanding, too.

However, GCJ's Logan novel remains pretty much a mystery - in that I mean if he will ever decide to finish and release it to the world.

From GCJ's Logan perspective, we really don't get that much news. And despite what anyone else may say to the contrary, he is still alive. :) He has done some recent writing work for the films "Ocean's Eleven" and "Ocean's Twelve".

If anyone else has some dirt on GCJ's Logan plans, please post.

I'd really like to read a GCJ version of a Logan's Run sequel.

I would imagine that his story would not follow the Nolan's ones. It would be great to hear what his ideas would be after Ballard and Sanctuary!

Has anyone heard anything new about this? He's still working on this right? It was my understanding that this would be about Franics as opposed to Logan & Jessica.

Spoiler Alert

I for one would love for GCJ to clarify or contradict Francis being Ballard.

End of Spoiler

As much as I love WFN Logan sequels I have always been curious about GCJ's take.

I guess this is dead too...

Sounds interesting.

I often wonder about Francis / Ballard's double life. Surely there must have been a time when Francis couldn't avoid having to kill a runner on the job - he and Logan had worked together for years - Logan must have seen Francis Gun a runner, surely?

That sort of never made sense to me. :dunno:

Yeah I always wondered about that too. Never made sense to me either. That's probably the only point of the book I never got. It's why I want to see Johnson's take on it. At any rate, Nolan downplays that in his sequel novels.

It's gotta be hard to get the gumption to write a novel based on an older novel and movie (we all love) when facing a generation of new young adults obsessed with simple minded things like text messages and cellular technology. Most people I meet have ten or so $60 PS3 or XBox games and zero $8 dollar paperbacks. Everything they know is spoon fed to them by the net or TV and they are youth obsessed and this Logan's Run thing we love is from the dark ages to them. (any of this sound like a certain movie we all adore?)

None of which will encourage any parent reading this to teach their kid to delay consumer gratification, put off rampant consumerism, fight to maintain real privacy in a computerized world, or read a book not propped up by the mega hollywood bs machine.

:excited: :excited: :excited:

I know, I know, things are different now and the sheeple must have what they want.
