I finally took some screen shots from The World, the Flesh and the Devil. It's a good "end of the world" picture starring Harry Belafonte. The film was made by MGM and released in 1959. In the film we see the front of an apartment building in which Harry's character lives. Notice that integrated into the design of the building are large concrete looking panels with holes. I believe these are the exact same panels that MGM later re-used to make the set for Cathedral.

Good observation. This film was made in New York. What will have been of these panels today?

The story of the film is set in New York and they did plenty of location shooting in that city. However I believe much was also filmed on the lot at MGM, including the apartment exterior with the panels, and all interior scenes.
Who knows? Those panels might still be sitting in a warehouse in southern California.

In LOGAN'S RUN, director Michael Anderson did a nice job of using those panels & their holes to cinematic effect: framing Logan in one and Jess in another; shooting THROUGH them; framing the doomed female Runner in one, off in the distance, as she's shot; etc. Thanks to those "hole-y" panels, the Cathedral sequence is arguably the most inventively-directed section of the whole movie.

Probably alot of props from Logans Run have gone missing over the years. I think it's interesting to discover the history of certain props, like the wall of Cathedral.
