Title: How many will go to see a remake?
MaryMary5 - March 8, 2006 01:49 AM (GMT)
To be honest, I don't know if I would go a this point. The older I get the less likely it seems. I've escaped Carousel and headed into the Wilderness.
Right know I'm sitting on the fence.

Definately going Opening Day
The Running Man - March 9, 2006 03:23 PM (GMT)
I will likely go see it more than once. Unless its really bad of course.

C'mon, gang -- even in a worst-case scenario, the existence of a remake won't blemish the original one bit. (In fact, it'll probably bring the '76 version to the attention of people who hadn't seen it before.)
Plus, this version's gonna show us stuff from the novel that MGM couldn't or wouldn't. PLUS a state-of-the-art Carousel -- the best of both worlds!
That's why I'm ALREADY IN LINE!

If anything i hope the new movie gets MGM to release the original on dvd again but with the lost footage.

Yes !! I too want a Special Edition Double DVD Set with 3 hours of Special Features on the original movie... I want intervies with Michael York, Jenny Agutter, Michael Anderson, William Nolan, and everyone else that was involved. I want it to come in a Steel Box like King Kong did, and it should also include a replica of the original Sandman blaster... :) ...It should also be done as a limited run with only 15,000 units produced, that way it will increase in value over time.... :offtopic:

Ditto to all the above, would love a special editon of LR I will be going to see it as no body can really cast an opinion until they actually see it ;)

Remember the rollerball remake!

Yes, there is a good chance it will be bad if it is low budget, but if they throw $90 million at it, it should be pretty good. Of course they would need to keep it PG13 if they expect to get the money back. It will vary greatly from the original movie either way, but might just help to bring the TV series back on.
So, would you all rather see a cheaper made movie with nudity and violence and an R rating, or a PG13 rated cleaner movie, with more money put into effects?

Myself -- as close to the book as possible -- so that would most likely mean an 'R' Rating. Unfortunately, it most likely will be rated PG-13, to keep the kids coming back to watch it. Most, if not all of us were 'kids' when we first saw it back in the 70s.
If PG meant nudity back then, then I'm all for bringing it back again to this version! Director Michael Anderson did do a great job in keeping what he could back in '76 with the ratings board - especially The Love Shop scene. Hopefully, if the film is PG-13, Bryan Singer will choreograph those scenes as well as Anderson did.
But again - I'd love a version with no edits at all!!

I think you might be right. PG13 in theaters, and maybe a directors cut DVD with an R rating. The DVD sales and rentals are starting to become as big a money maker as the theater release. If they shoot the scenes for the R rated DVD, knowing they will be deleted from the movie, it really wouldn't cost them all that much more in production, and they would have 2 DVDs to sell, one rated PG13 for the early teens, and one rated R for the rest of us.

I will go to see the remake. I,too, feel that the remake coming out will bring about 'Renewed' (Pun intended) attention for the original. Maybe a hunt will finally be undertaken for the Deleted Scenes.
And with the success that Bryan Singer has had with both X-Men films over the past few years,I have a feeling this "Logans Run" remake is going to take off.
Now,I will always consider the original to be my favorite, but if the remake helps bring more attention to the original, then that's fabulous.
MaryMary5 - March 23, 2006 02:23 PM (GMT)
OK, reading your responses has made me acknowledge that I will go to see it. However, I hope they do the book version AND I would love to see the original film restored wth all of it's scenes.

Remember when they issued some VHS Tapes of "Doctor Who" several years ago of Patrick Troughton (the 2nd Doctor) and William Hartnell (the 1st Doctor) and the tapes consisted of all that they had of episodes that were lost.
Maybe they might not be able to find all the Deleted Scenes, but if they do find some and they're not complete, maybe they'll include them as special features.
Ron - March 24, 2006 04:37 AM (GMT)
If only Micheal Anderson could revamp the classic original, like renew the special effects(no pun intended)then put it back in theatres.
David4 - March 24, 2006 08:17 PM (GMT)
It would be great to see a "Special Edition" of the classic "Logans Run" re-released in theaters with updated special effects and some of,if not all of,the deleted scenes.
If the remake takes off,who knows,we may see something like that with the original! That would be fantastic.

I really like this idea, I think it would work well and generate additional revenue. Die hard fans like myself would buy both versions... :)
