I was deeply saddened yesterday upon hearing of the loss of one of my favorite novelists -- Peter Benchley, the author of "Jaws", "The Island" and "The Deep".

A year before "Logan's Run", I remember my dad taking my brother and me to see "Jaws" at the Rialto Theater back in 1975, and me being terrified about the water for months/years afterward. Later, I went to the library to search out a copy of the novel and remember that it too was equally terrifying and thrilling!
As the years went by, I remember reading his other novels: "The Deep" and - a personal favorite of mine - "The Island" (the novel about the Carribean pirates --- NOT the recent Ewan McGregor 'clones gone wild' film).
A truly wonderful author who will be sadly missed

That is a shame...I have seen all three movies, The Island, Jaws and The Deep, in fact I just picked up The Deep on DVD a few months ago. I have also read the novel Jaws, Peter Benchley was a very talented author and he will be missed... :(
