Title: Scripts

nems12 - November 15, 2005 11:46 PM (GMT)
Almost 10 years ago someone who owned a script for Logan’s Run presumably re-typed it so that it could be shared with others on the internet. This is still the most common Logan script floating around the net as either a text file or html page. It is commonly referred to as a revision from April 30, 1975. However, I recently acquired a copy of the original script source and found that it is in fact a script from April 30, 1975 which includes revisions made on:
  • May 7, 1975
  • May 8, 1975
  • May 21, 1975
  • May 22, 1975
  • May 23, 1975
  • June 2, 1975
  • June 4, 1975
  • June 5, 1975
  • June 13, 1975
  • June 17, 1975
  • July 21, 1975
  • July 18, 1975
  • July 25, 1975
  • July 28, 1975
  • July 29, 1975
  • August 1, 1975
  • August 12, 1975
  • August 13, 1975
So...we really should have been considering this as a revision from August 13, 1975 all along. Revision dates appear within the top border of a given page within the script, but those were skipped when this was typed out for use on the internet 10 years ago.

I have created a .pdf of the original source script and you can download it here to see the specific page revisions.

Of course this now means that a script from April 30, 1975 without any further revisions would look very different (and is now something that I very much want to see).

For reference, here's the online "Logan's Run" script that nems12 refers to above as also being dated April 30, 1975 .

Are these two the same???

Yeah, they are the same. Only difference being you can't see the revision dates in the .html version, but you can see 'em in the .pdf version. Just keep an eye on the top border of each page and you'll notice that many pages are sporting a revision date later than April 30, 1975.

--------

Apparently there are only 4 scripts in the hands of the fans

(Updated list appears in message further down in this thread).

If anyone can hook me up with a copy of the March 3, 1975 (w/revisions through Mar 13, 1975), please contact me.

Screenwriter Richard Maibaum was working with producer George Pal during the late sixties in an ill-fated attempt to bring Logan's Run to the screen. Richard is most famous for being the screenwriter to 12 different James Bond movies. Richard passed away in 1991 and his widow, Sylvia, donated his papers to the Special Collections Dept. at the University of Iowa Libraries. Amongst the papers are the following Logan's Run related work:
  • Correspondence, notes, sketch and miscellaneous treatment pages, 1968.
  • Treatment, February 14, 1968.
  • Screenplay, April 8, 1968.
  • Screenplay, June 3, 1968. Revision.
Although one cannot copy nor borrow these items, one can view them within the Reading Room at the Special Collections Department at University of Iowa.

So...when is the road trip to Iowa? :D

Another great find, nems12!!

And I remember reading that that was one of the big reasons he was tied to writing the screenplay for "Logan's Run" - because they thought that the original "Logan" novel had alot of the same adventure-type elements that a James Bond movie might have.

So, who's going to volunteer to drive over there and transcribe the entire screenplay for us - hopefully both versions!!??

Yet another reason to visit the Special Collections Dept. at the University of Iowa Libraries;

Their M. Horvat Collection of SF Fanzines contains Vol.1 No.1 of Sandman Sentinel.

Thanks, nems12 for your inputs. The fact that the "4/30/75" digi-script was actually updated thru 8/13/75 I will add to my LR Notes and submit to this site as part of a new revision.

However, re. the line:

"October 21, 1974 (w/revisions through Feb 24, 1975) by David Zelag Goodman"

I have a version of this script that has revs thru Feb 25, 1975. Affected pages are: 77-95; 99-104; 109-112 (end). Check your copy; if you need these pages, just holler.

joe99,
I just double checked my copy and it matches yours (w/revs thru Feb 25, 1975). Thanks for catching my typo.

Here then is a corrected list of the only 4 scripts in the hands of the fans:
  • February 21, 1967 (second draft) by George Clayton Johnson & William F. Nolan
  • October 21, 1974 (w/revisions through Feb 25, 1975) by David Zelag Goodman
  • March 3, 1975 (w/revisions through Mar 13, 1975) by David Zelag Goodman
  • April 30, 1975 (w/revisions through Aug 13, 1975) by David Zelag Goodman
