Title: Logan's Run References
Description: in other movies and TV shows
Logan5 - November 9, 2005 06:41 PM (GMT)
Thought I'd start a new thread for "Logan's Run" references in other movies, TV shows, cartoons, comics, etc....
As you reference these, please be sure to give the Movie Title and Year, TV Episode title and/or name, etc... so that others can find them more easily.
Here are a couple of films that "Logan's Run" is referenced in:
"Free Enterprise" - 1998
Several great Logan's Run reference's in this film, including a great Dream sequence where the main character is being hunted on Last Day by his Sandman friend!
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0141105/ "Daddy Day Care" - 2003
Steve Zahn's character helps out at the Day Care and is a huge SciFi buff (msotly Star Trek). He meets up with an attractive single mother of one of the Day Care kids, who also likes SciFi, and asks her out on a date to the local movie house, that just happens to be screening the movie "Logan's Run"!
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0317303/And just this morning, I caught another "Logan's Run" reference on the Nickelodeon cartoon show "The Fairly Oddparents":
"The Fairly Oddparents" - Episode Titled "Love at First Height"
Timmy and his parents go to this way cool Amusement park. While Timmy is exploring the park (as a taller Timmy so there's no ride height restrictions on him), his parents get sent underneath the park to a secret area that only Parents get to enjoy without their kids!! However, Timmy's friends AJ and Chester accidently get sent down there and when it's discovered that they're really kids in a grown-up disguise, one of the Security officers yells into his communication device, "We've got a runner in Quadrant 7"!
These are just a few to start off with.
If you know of any more, please list them. And if you find any new ones, be sure to post them in this thread!
The Running Man - November 9, 2005 07:58 PM (GMT)
There is also a reference made to Logans Run on the BBC hit series
Coupling...

The comment is made by actor Richard Coyle who plays Jeff Murdock...

I beleive it is season 1 episode 3
Sex Nudity and Death. He makes reference to the fact that Jenny Agutter for no apparent reason gets naked in the middle of the movie, he calls it Brilliant. It is very funny scene in a very funny series, if you've never seen Coupling I strongly urge you pick it up. I generally don't like comedy of any sort, but this show is really, really funny...

Let's not forget the references on Family guy, when Brian the Dog was talking to his counselor about the dream he had, concerning the original 1976 film. And the two references on The Simpsons. One including the MTV Host, whose life clock started buzzing(she said the same thing that the runner in Cathedral did). the other in the comic book, where Mr. Burns created the entire Carousel set for his own twisted amusement. Those were a bit hilarious. :guns:

That Family Guy episode was:
Family Guy - Season 2, Episode 4 - "Brian in Love"
A nice, surprisingly long (60 second) sequence with Brian the dog trying to evade two Sandmen ("We've got a runner in Sector G") in the Domes. Snoopy makes a small cameo at the end of this bit!
The one Simpsons reference was:
The Simpsons - Season 11, Episode 19 - "Kill the Alligator and Run"
At the beach, M-TV is hosting it's annual Spring Break concert. The M-TV V-jay, Sepulveda, announces that it's her birthday, then looks at her palm and sees a blinking red crystal. She screams, "Ah! No!! Not yet! I'm only 25!" Then a pair of guards drag her away and replace her with a much younger V-jay! :lol2:
I don't remember the other Simpson reference... Anyone remember which Episode that was from??
Thanks, Francis8!

Running Man,
I hadn't heard of that Logan reference before on Coupling . I'll keep an eye out for that one!
Thanks for posting it!

Anyone out there have a still photo of the blonde SIMPSONS MTV "veejay" who gets yanked when her palm crystal starts blinking? (She's immediately replaced by a noticeably YOUNGER blonde!) :rotf:

Here's another Logan's Run reference from South Park
South Park - Season 4, Episode 16 - "The Wacky Molestation Adventure"
The South Park kids get the cops to lock up ALL of the adults and parents in the town after the kids accuse them all of molesting them. Soon, the entire town is only inhabited with children and Cartman is the mayor. There are references of a ritual known as 'Carousel' in the town, where kids are to be sacrificed to the 'Provider' (who it turns out is a statue of John Elway). Kenny is one of Carousels' first victims.
Overall, a great 'Twilight Zone' type of episode that also parodies some other films like "Lord of the Flies", "Children of the Corn" and of course, "Logan's Run".

Dave Foley or one of the poker players recently made a comment in the "losers lounge", and how it reminded them of Logan's Run. I think it was on an episode of Poker Showdown within the past two weeks.

Just finished watching an episode of "Out of Practice" on CBS tonight entitled "Hot Water" (Episode #1.14) and at the very end of the episode - there's a short dream sequence between one of Ben's friends and Lydia (Stockard Channing) sitting on the sofa watching "Planet of the Apes". He's impressed with Stockard's knowledge of "Planet of the Apes".
Stockard then says something like "I love Planet of the Apes, but it's no "Logan's Run"!"
He then says "Oh, I LOVE Logan's Run! I write fan fiction for it!"
Then the two make out on the couch - then suddenly, he awakens from his little dream hugging the sofa pillow.

When I first saw that,Ron,I couldn't stop laughing! That was such an unexpected moment. I loved it!

Running Man I saw that episode of "Coupling". I loved the LR reference and I absolutely love that show. It is hilarious.
BTW, with all of these different movies, shows and cartoons making references to Logan's Run, why does it seem like the movie never got the credit it deserved.
There are a lot of "closet Runners" out there. Maybe if they'd step forward, the new movie would get off the ground.
Just a thought.

Probably it's considered a "Cult Classic" in that it doesn't get the fanfare it deserves, but it's a hit otherwise.

I'm glad you saw the episode, it is a very funny series... and I also agree it does'nt get the credit it deserves. But I think it is still recognized as a good movie by many, just look at Rotten Tomatos.com , it received a very good rating... And when you think about it, how many Sci-Fi movies besides Star Wars, and Star Trek have Web sites devoted to them. (excluding new series of course) Especially Pre Star Wars Sci-Fi movies. LR has a number fan made web sites and even its own message board, How Cool is that. While its true the support for the movie could be greater I believe it has stood for 31 years and has not faded into obscurity like most others of this genre. Next to Star Wars :lightsaber: I myself think it is the greatest movie of all time. :D

There was a reference of the movie in an issue of Futurama. It showed Phillip J. Fry being chased by a Sandman, who shoot his blaster and yells, "Stop, Runner!"
Supposedly, old Fry was running some type of marathon and it was called the Logan's Run. That was hilarious!
Logan5 - June 15, 2008 11:29 AM (GMT)
The 2008 season finale of Saturday Night Live has a quick reference to "Logan's Run".
In the "Deal or No Deal" segment with Steve Carell as a nerdy contestant, he begins to argue with his dad in the audience about whether to take the deal or choose another suitcase.
His dad starts bringing up things as to why his son can't make any good decisions and says that he came home the other day to find his son on the couch watching "Logan's Run" at 2:30 in the afternoon.
Steve looks over at his dad in the audience and quietly says "I hate you, I hate you..."
