That looks amazing! :omg:
I'm ordering a copy. Big thanks to Paulx for sharing this with the LR fan community.

My pleasure, nems12.

As for the film itself, I did the best I could (at age 14) with limited means, & while the results are at times laughable (e.g., a Domed City made of Tupperware!), I believe that any Loganite who views the movie surely will enjoy it -- & will recognize & relate to my deep & sincere affection for the source material.

I'm hoping those of you who view "Box" will then log in here to share your impressions.

And BTW, major props to Logan5 for creating that gorgeous "BOX -- The Movie" page!

How right you are Paul! I think any Logan fan who watches your film will appreciate it greatly and will be taken back to a time of our youth when we all enjoyed chasing down and hunting runners in our own backyards in the 70's. Your film is very entertaining and great fun to watch!!

I'm glad you liked the page I made for it on my website. Thank's for sharing it with all of us here!

My DVD of “Box” arrived today. I immediately opened it and popped it into the DVD player. What can I say…I loved all 15 minutes of it!!!

The thing that impressed me the most was the ambitious scope of the film. Despite the lack of any budget, young Paul was not content to simply contain his film to a few small sets and talking heads. Instead, time and again we see grand establishing shots (e.g. the Tupperware City of Domes, crowds filmed off of TV, the local Mall, etc) before cutting to close-ups of actors and dialogue. It seemed clear that when he scripted the film, his imagination was not hampered AT ALL by a lack of budget.

As a kid, I too spent quite a bit of time contemplating making a Logan’s Run film of my own. At the time I felt that I didn’t have the money, resources and energy to pull it off. “Box” shows that all you really needed back then was energy and drive to make it happen. Money really didn’t matter. What a fool I was. Damn, I sure wish Paul had lived on my street growing up; I would have loved to have been a part of “Box”.

So, who's gonna make some nice downloadable DVD coverart for “Box”?

P.S. Seeing "Box" made me wonder if any of us will ever get to see Bill Blake's "Logan's Trot"? Bill, you out there anywhere? Bill..?

Aw, shucks, nems12 -- I'm blushing! (No easy feat when you're constructed entirely of chrome!)

You're very kind. So glad you enjoyed my "no-budget epic"! Again, anyone else wishing to order a copy, please contact me at paulmccomas@mail.com

As for "downloadable cover art," I could provide someone with hard copy of the film's original, full-color promotional poster (seen in the background during the DVD's FINAL end credits)...?

I have other fan-film-DVDs in the works, too, including VADER (1977) and BEYOND THE PLANET OF THE APES (1976 -- in which the Apes fight...with a Yeti!?!?). :wtf:

Trivia question for anyone (other than Logan5) who has seen my "BOX" movie: where was the "Outside" sequence filmed -- that is, the final scene, featuring Logan 1 and his girlfriend strolling alongside a trio of actual, real-life, gargantuan Domes? :dunno:

It is simply amazing how Paul was able to construct these on such a small budget... ;)

Congrats, nems12 -- you got it! It's the Mitchell Park Observatory in my native town, Milwaukee. Each dome one holds a big botanical garden: one's a desert, one's a jungle, & the third one changes seasonally -- but from the Outside, they look pretty darn Logan-esque!

If you're ever in Beertown, cruise over there & get your picture taken Outside the domes, dressed appropriately, flashing your (clear) crystal!

Good job, nems12! You're renewed!

It's a wonderful movie and I have seen it at least three times since I got the DVD on Saturday. I'm sorry I didn't think of something like this back then.

Good stuff, this!
I ordered the DVD, it arrived recently....upon popping it into the player, I was whisked back to MY early kid days, when my best bud and I used to also create Super8 adventures and film them...ahh, good times!

The use of everyday items in this film as FX is quite ingenious...the direction, for a 'mere kid' shows promise of the imagination to come in later years, when the films author will become...well, a well known author!...;)

Great stuff, over all...I highly recommend it if for no other reason than to see the obvious seeds of creativity taking root in a young man that will eventually become quite the talent in later years...well worth the measley funds that are asked for in order to partake!

'Renew!...RENEW!....'....;)

THANK YOU, Sexzguy; THANK YOU, Kevin! It is TOO cool that my silly li'l film from 29 years ago is tickling the funny-bones of -- & creating instant, "no-budget nostalgia" for -- total strangers from throughout the world Outside the Domes!

And I'd ALSO like to thank everyone who has purchased "BOX -- The Movie" for their contributions to blood-donation services (a big chunk of each purchase going thereto).

And as for those of you who HAVEN'T yet plunked down your measly $15 (postage included) and partaken of the "Box -- The Movie" experience, just remember:

"MAKES A GREAT WINTER-HOLIDAY GIFT!"

(Especially with the film's abundance of snow & ice!)

Paul, your film looks great. As sson as I get rid of some Xmas debt I'll order a copy.

I give you a lot of credit for filming your version. My story isn't even finished and at that age I wouldn't have had the guts to film it!

Kudos!!!!!!!!!!!!

Paulx - January 8, 2006 07:37 AM (GMT)
Thanks, MaryMary. And may I say what an honor it is to receive such positive feedback from such a key character in the Logan cycle! I have a DVD ready to go when you want it. (Should I send it to you c/o Cathedral Quadrant?)

Let me take this opportunity to mention some recent good news related to "BOX - THE MOVIE." It has been accepted for, and will be screened at, the Indie Film Festival at Capricon 2006 on Sat., Feb. 11, in Arlington Heights, IL (just northwest of Chicago)!

BTW, earlier that same afternoon, I'll be hosting a tribute to Bill Nolan at Capricon, & he'll be joining us via live audio feed!

So, if anyone's up for a road trip, come on by, & be prepared for an audience experience worthy of Carousel!

Logan5 - January 8, 2006 08:03 PM (GMT)
Paul,

That sounds terrific! Congratulations on your upcoming 'BOX' screening and hope your Nolan tribute goes great!

Be sure to let us know what happened!!

Run, runner!

Paulx - January 20, 2006 12:04 AM (GMT)
Will do, Logan5.

I'll actually be showing TWO of my films (BOX and SHOCK THEATRE) at the Capricon Film Fest, plus a preview for another (BEYOND THE PLANET OF THE APES). And I'm an actor in yet another film to be screened there, CORPUS CALOSUM.

In addition, I'll be introducing a 30th-anniversary screening of LOGAN'S RUN, at which we'll pause the movie, play the audio from the deleted "ice sculpture scene" over a "slide show" of stills from the scene, then un-pause & show the remainder of the movie. (Closest any of us will ever get to seeing the movie the way it was SUPPOSED to be seen!)

Major shout-out to YOU, Logan5, for helping me get my hands on both the audio and the stills!

Finally, I'll be sitting on a panel discussing MOVIE REMAKES.

So, if any of you Domed City-zens live in the Chicago area (or are up for a road trip), I hope to see you there!

"BOX ROLLS TO BRITAIN!"

I recently put through my first overseas order of "BOX: The Movie," to an enthusiastic young Loganite in Derby, England. (What will he make of our Logan actor's halting attempts to duplicate Michael York's half-English, half-American "Logan accent"?) Look for his review in this space soon. . .

PERSONAL TO MARYMARY5: There are still a few copies left. Are you out of Xmas debt yet? I'd love to put through our first order of "BOX" to a female! If you order it today, then in a few days you can be in front of your TV, sitting on the edge of your sofa in anticipation, looking like this:

NOTE: Plankton on your popcorn -- YUM, YUM!

Logan5 - April 28, 2006 04:40 PM (GMT)
Very nice, Paulx!

Soon the film will be making the round at next years Cannes festival!!

Now if only we can get it to our French speaking fans... Hey Paul - you might want to put a French Audio track on it! They love LR in France!
