Today, director Bryan Singer is in Australia filming Superman Returns. The film is expected to hit theaters on June 30th 2006. This new Superman film is causing Warner Bros. and producer Ilya Salkind to finally negotiate a deal for the release of director Richard Donner's original unused footage filmed back in 1979 for Superman II. This will allow for the creation of a long-awaited Superman II: Director's Cut that would be closer to the film Donner was crafting before the film was taken away from him by the studio back in 1979 and given to replacement director Richard Lester. Superman fans have been begging to see all the Donner footage for years. Now it looks like it will finally happen because Warner wants to release a new DVD special edition of Superman II in conjunction with the theatrical or DVD debut of Bryan Singer's Superman Returns.
This is good news for Logan's Run fans. And if a special edition or director’s cut of Superman II is released, then every Logan’s Run fan should buy it. Why you ask? Because when Bryan Singer finishes with Superman Returns he will start working on the new Logan’s Run film. And you can bet that if Warner Bros. made money off of the Superman situation, then they will want to repeat that experience and release a Director’s Cut/Extended Edition of the original 1976 version of Logan’s Run to coincide with the theatrical or DVD debut of Bryan Singer's Logan's Run. This, if for no other reason, is why I can't wait for the Bryan Singer version of Logan's Run.
Bring on the Superman II: Directors' Cut DVD and bring on the theatrical release of Superman Returns. May they both be huge hits!
This is exciting news, nems12! I've always enjoyed Superman II - even more so than the original Superman. I will be first in line to buy the Superman II Special Edition DVD!
I certainly hope that Warner Brothers is able to locate most of the missing footage from Logan's Run - especially the Ice Sculpting scene. As director Michael Anderson had stated on his DVD commentary, he mostly cut that scene for length, not censorship. Hopefully it still exists in someone's vault somewhere - in good shape - and can be included on a Logan's Run Special Edition DVD.
I'm also hoping that we are treated to the Logan's Run TV Series on DVD when the remake is finally released - hopefully with some sort of Special feature (ie commentarys and new cast interviews)!

A new Logan's Run movie -- as well as a new Special Edition of the original movie on DVD -- and add to that the Logan's Run TV Series on DVD! And you can also bet that a Logan's Run tie-in video game of some sort would be released as well! What a year that will be!!!!
Not to mention William F Nolan's new Logan prequels - and hopefully, at that same time, George Clayton Johnson will release his own, original loooooooooong overdue Logan's Run novel!!!
