*waves* Hey PR!!! Welcome! Although, if ur new here now that means im not here yet!!!
I never intoduced myself formally either, just joined and started posting! lol I'm Dini, Im 21 and come from Staines! I like Green Wing, music and alcohol! This is my first and only forum and I love it and all the people that use it, even though i'm technically new!
bingle - August 28, 2006 08:24 PM (GMT)
MBG you come from Staines?! I used to live 5 mins from there in Egham! Small world eh?!
I used to have a stupid boyfirend who I took shopping in Staines, and he spent the whole day walking round doing Ali G impressions - like he was the first person to think of that!
Mac'sBestGirl - August 28, 2006 08:38 PM (GMT)
:o *GASP* I actually live in Egham, not Staines! I just say Staines cos im right on the border and more people have heard of Staines than Egham! Wow, its such a small world!!
And I HATE the Ali G thing!! It's like GAH- get over it!!!!!!!! Always find myself metioning it to people iv just met before they can say anything!!
bingle - August 28, 2006 08:43 PM (GMT)
lol! i know what you mean - you have to get it in there first or your suddenly bombarded with Ali G quotes!
On my 21st birthday one of my mates got me that horrid ALi-G birthday card that shouts at you when you open it, cos he thought it was hysterical that I lived near Staines - I've never forgiven him!
Mac'sBestGirl - August 28, 2006 09:03 PM (GMT)
Lol- GRRRR bad man!!! Luckily the whole Ali G thing is calming down now!! Hehe! So where do u live now? what made u leave Sunny Staines/Egham! Lol This is so funny, finding someone who lives in the same little town as me!
bingle - August 28, 2006 09:20 PM (GMT)
I was one of those awful students from the university (please don't hate me!)! Lived in Egham for 3 years, and did think about staying there, but my boyfriend and a guaranteed job was waiting for me at home, so I ended up moving back to Kent (I hasten to add, not the same boyfriend as did the AliG impressions!)
Mac'sBestGirl - August 28, 2006 10:08 PM (GMT)
Lol- I quite like the uni students! Lots of them live along the balcony from me- makes for nice quiet summers! lol
I wudda left Egham too! Without all that much encouragement! hehe
bingle - August 28, 2006 10:25 PM (GMT)
I loved my time in Egham, although I did have some awful jobs while I was there. The worst was probably when I worked in Scummerfields for a year (which I think has gone now hasn't it?).
And as a student I was always very considerate to my neighbours (both of whom were families with young children so they were dreading the thought of a bunch of students moving in!). But I did sense a little antagonism from some people in Egham - I had a little old lady have a go at me at a bus stop just because I was talking about the uni lol! She was quite insistent that everything that was wrong with the area was MY fault!
I got into the habit of apologising for being a student whenever I spoke to anyone from the area!
Mac'sBestGirl - August 28, 2006 11:07 PM (GMT)
Lol- there are some good things about Egham! I dont think i wud really wanna be anywhere else- I jus like to moan about it! But ur right, there is a fair amount of anomosity towards the students- they used to be barred from loads of the shops- dont really know why, cos they arent that bad!! I think they get alot of the blame for nicking all the jobs, cos Egham is only a small place, it cant reall accomodate work for all the students as well! lol
Summerfield? Damn that place was a dive! Its a Tesco now! I used to work at Thorpe Park- thats a big student favorite in the area! :)
bingle - August 28, 2006 11:23 PM (GMT)
Do you know, I've never been to Thorpe Park! Kept saying I'd go, but never got around to it! It'll have to go on my list of things to do before I turn 30 (I know its 5 years away but I like to plan ahead!)
I think PR's gonna be cross with us! We've hijacked her thread somewhat!
Sorry PR!!
PigRescuer - August 29, 2006 10:47 AM (GMT)
hehe. i was reading all that.
tis quite interesting, although i need to ask WHY you've never been to thorpe park bingle? i live in sutton and i've been.
bingle - August 29, 2006 11:08 AM (GMT)
I really did mean to... and then I had a bad experience at Alton Towers... so I guess I just never got there. I really do intend to go sometime tho!
PigRescuer - August 29, 2006 11:18 AM (GMT)
lol. a bad experience..
my grandma was compolaining about students the otehr day. she lives in durham, and she was saying how quiet teh holidays are compared to the term (obviousky i can;t judge cos they only time i've ever been to vistit her that i remmeber was in hols) and she was saying how they always say the students have gone back to surrey, cos apparnelty all students in durham are from teh south.
bingle - August 29, 2006 11:29 AM (GMT)
Yes, a VERY bad experience. It involved a stairwell and lots of people staring... :cry
Durham is a lovely place, but I don't think I would have liked to go to the uni there. It is true tho - it's all southerners there. It's a really popular uni cos it's got a really good reputation. I had an interview and an offer from them, but I was torn between there and Egham. In the end, my grades decided it for me.
Just think, if I'd gone to Durham I'd be one of those your gran was complaining about! :(
PigRescuer - August 29, 2006 11:50 AM (GMT)
hehe that woul be hilarious.
i am intrigued by this stairwell....
and i am SO not going to Durham - imagine if i saw my Gran?!?!
i'll make an attempt at oxbridge then southampton, prehaps. suposed to be third best medical school.
bingle - August 29, 2006 10:32 PM (GMT)
Lol! I couldn't have achieved the level of embarassment that i did, without the aid of the stairwell! In fact, without the stairwell, it would only have been a mildly bad experience. The stairwell just gave it that extra something! Lol!
I know a couple of people who went to Southampton and they all had a great time. It can be a bit dodgy in some parts, but then so can anywhere!
Mac'sBestGirl - August 29, 2006 10:50 PM (GMT)
I always wanted to go to the Royal Holloway- to do English and Drama- but my grades werent good enough! lol- and it was a bit close to home for comfort!!
And IMO, Egham is better with the students- cos the average age goes up to about 70 when they all leave!
Southampton seems like a nice uni, I have known ppl who went there too. I got drunk there once- yeah- dont remember it! lol As for being dodgy, even parts of Egham are dodgy and its practically a little villiage! :)
Bingle- u shud so get to Thorpe Park- I recommend Fright Nites, they are alot of fun! Its smaller than Alton, so less scope for embaressing incidents!
bingle - August 29, 2006 10:59 PM (GMT)
But it still has rides... and stairwells... and considering I can find scope for disaster on the tea cup rides... :knockout
enzotherhino - August 30, 2006 10:34 AM (GMT)
I'm looking at Southhampton too! they're very good for electronics. And hi to PR
