I found this forum while searching the net for green wing stuff. (It's great by the way)

On my travels, I came accross the C4 forum. They are having a poll there at the moment on what Mac's first name is. The 2 most popular results are "Mac" (But Mac McCartney sounds stupid) and "Endevour"

Hmm, not quite true I'm afraid: The name spelled out in morse code as part of the music on the closing credits is simply 'morse' (and it reads: --(m) ---(0) .-.(r ) ...(s) .(e)). Why Endeavour then? Inspector Morse never ever wanted to mention his first name because he was too ashamed of it, so he always let people - friends and strangers - call him by his surname 'Morse'. In the one but last episode it turns out that his real first name was Endeavour, after Captain Cook's ship...

Anyway, I suppose the comparision is made because of the 'mystery of the first name'- thing.

Far more relevant is probably the following: Mac is TOTALLY yummiezzzzzz! (And I just LOVE that hairstyle!). Ow, and his first name really should be something like 'Calum' or 'Colin'... suits him (and goes well with Mac, phonetically)!

I reckon it's a girl's name, like Hillary or Marion (think John Wayne), one of those weird boy/girl transformations that only sounds right for one gender, but *technically* is for both. That would be embarrasing, like Guy's middle name, Valerie wasn't it? :D On that note, did you know Beverly and Kimberly are both names for boys as well?

Or, maybe it's just something dead boring, and 'Mac' sounds cooler. Do they say he's embarressed about his name? I can't remember them bringing it up, well, not yet.

cuthbert tends to be more of a surname - at least at my school it is.
i reckon its something like Alex - but thats boring so he wanted to make it sound cooler....like Guy calls himself Guy, not Guillemme or whatever his name is!

Cuthbert is a Christian name, albeit not very common these days and usually shortened to Bert.

I still reckon his first name's either dead embarrasing or dead boring. Thus the need for 'Mac', or maybe he just had cruel parents who decided on Mac Macartney. Though it does happen a bit, take Robert Robertson (usually shortened to Bob), Tom Thompson and Erik Erikson (that one is a famous psychology theorist), etc.

i've never come across anyone with the first name cuthbert, but i know plenty of people called like David Cuthbert or something, thats normally shortened to Cuthy!!
