Now I have to say, this is a classic series, and probably my original favourite...

So imagine how shocked I was to hear that...

An American re-make of Father Ted is apparently in production... watch this space for more info.

meh, like that'll work. probably be worse than the American Red Dwarf, and that was pretty terrible.

Norah - November 15, 2004 10:42 AM (GMT)
There was an American Red Dwarf? Oooof! Oh dear.

Angeleyes - November 17, 2004 12:34 AM (GMT)
I've only seen the pilot, but it's not good. Even the credits were crap (different theme tune, but same graphics).
When Lister finds out everyone's been dead 3 million years he goes "My baseball cards must be worth a fortune"
Is crap.

Yup I saw 5 minutes of the US pilot and basically they'd ripped it to shreds. NEw characters as well apart from kryten, same ol' krytie. In the words of a good american comedy: "Worst.....Episode......Ever"

Yeah but americans seem to have a different sense of humour to us, don't they? I mean, we may think its crap, but ol' Billy bob in Texas might think its solid gold. (Don't know why, though.)

Mmm...caught the american version of "The Office"...tis good, but it feels like it's just imitating the original, and whereas imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...it's not hte highest form of comedy for me...just watch the original, I say...

I saw a very brief clip of it and a programme about Red Dwarf, I seem to rememeber the cast being too good looking, which just didn't work (although I have had crushes on all key members of the RD cast at some time, now it's just Danny John-Jules), but yeah it looked crap, I would like to se just how crap the whole thing was though!

where_the_wild_things_are - June 8, 2005 05:20 AM (GMT)
hahaha, i had a giat crush on Danny John Jules for a while!!!! Only i havnt seen Red Dwarf lately so it has sort of died down a little :D Its somtimes fun watching bad tv just to laugh at how bad it is...although somtimes its just god awful and i cant take it :P

I don't understand how an American version would work, would the priests still be Irish? Because if not you've lost quite a bit of humour already. A lot of the things done in the show of takes on Irish traits and behaviour. I don't know, it all sounds a bit silly to me. Surprised the writers would agree to it.

oh I love father ted, one o my fav quotes is when they arrive at the caravan park and ted goes to jack "we are here father jack" and he says "feck off" don't know y but I decked myself everything, :notworthy

I love it when Fathed Jack 'gives up' drinking for Lent and he finally sobers up for a while

Jack: Where are the other two?
Ted: Probably seeing double before. There's only me and Dougal
Jack: Oh God! Don't tell me I'm still on that fecking island!

:D

American father ted would NOT work. It'd take away the entire basis of the program.. how could they??

Father Ted really does rule, doesn't it? It took me a little while to get into it but once I started to, I just became obsessed. It's classic, BRILLIANT comedy! :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy
