Title: Pushing Daisies
Description: Chuck, Ned and a whole load of pie

Port-ahh Lover - April 13, 2008 04:36 PM (GMT)
OMG this show is just made of WIN!!!!! :yeeay

From a technical POV, it's just bloody gorgeous to watch, with it's hyper-real colours, and sharp edges, and the fx are hilarious-especially when the dead turn blue for a spilt second after Ned touches them again.

Also, the narrative, and voice over are brilliant, and make it such a fairy tale.

Also, Ned is so cute! Especially at the end when he held hands with himself pretending it was Chuck.

And Anna Friel, I salute her! The accent was really good, and Chuck's just so cute, and has a great wardrobe.

I think my fave characters though are the aunts, I mean, underwater acrobats that may or may not be lesbians, AND one of the lost an eye to a kitty litter incident? EPIC WIN!!!

After watching just one episode I want the box set.

OK I agree with everything you've said apart from the bit about the voice over. There's far too much of it.

Ned reminds me of George Clooney when he was first in ER :)

I love the way it's shot, it reminds me of Edward Scissorhands and the remake about the Housewives - aghhhhhhhhhhhhh what's it called  it had Nicole Kidman in it.

The bit when his mother died for the second time was just hilarious

edit: The Stepford Wives :)

I watched this, as I've been hearing stuff about it from various Buffy friends for ages, and my friend Phoebe also went all crazy over it. But I have to say, I didn't love it. I found the voiceover and the overly-bright visuals a bit irritating; whimsy annoys me a bit. Also, there are a few things that I can't quite suspend my disbelief on. So he can rise the dead with a touch? Fine. I have no trouble believing that. But I can't suspend my belief enough to accept that he don't touch his dog once from the moment that he brought it back to life to the moment his mother died, even if (for simplicity's sake) they were on the same day. I just can't.

I have no belief to suspend. Never been one for realism, and I'm surprised that you are Verity...Think of all the coincidences/improbabilities in Harry Potter, even if you accept (the fact) that wizards do exist!

I absolutely adored this show, and agree with pretty much everything Lottie said. The voiceover didn't annoy much as they usually do, I thought it was subtle and amusing and gentle. I loved the humour and laughed all the way through. I liked the way Ned was constantly referred to as 'The Piemaker' it gives such a fairytale quality to it. It reminds me of something that I can't quite put my finger on. My friend said it was like Amelie, and I suppose it was a bit. Perhaps a little of Big Fish? And theres definitely some Tim Burton influences in there too. (lookit me, all reviewer like!)

Visually, it's just breathtaking. The colours are so vivid (I also liked that bit where they turn blue briefly before dying! Hee!) and Chucks dresses were sooo pretty. Also, did anyone notice how beautiful the buildings were? I want to live in the Aunts house! As a testament to my shallowness my flatmate, who seemed to really like it too, was staring at the screen and saying 'Oh isn't it brilliant, so sharp and fast-paced. How they had the Aunts being swimmers so she could hold her breath for a long time...blah blah. What do you think?' My response was something along the lines of 'I like the pretty colours...' Retard.

Oh dear, that was an essay. In case you haven't guessed, I quite like this show.

All those pretty colours, dress, a darling puppy, Ned and Chuck...how to resist!
And to think i only watched it cos Tom liked the coffin scene!

xpingux - April 14, 2008 03:44 PM (GMT)
I haven't watched this :( I think I might have to now lol!

guyoline - April 14, 2008 04:59 PM (GMT)
is there a repeat at any time? bloody itv doesn't have a thing like i-player does it???

i really wanted to watch this as well - gutted :(

oiyoupingpongman - April 14, 2008 05:49 PM (GMT)
Does ITV not have a version of i-player at all? Oh itv, you LOSE.

Oh well, its on next week. And you can always catch up with what happened (ask me, if you want)

I liked that too - it was a clever moment which gave a plausible reason for events. Ditto the fact that she was unable to see Chuck because of one eye being missing. :)

I can't help thinking about the logistics of everything, though. Like whether Ned can revive the dead in any state. He goes to funeral homes, seemingly, so that would suggest people can be brought back to life even if they've been embalmed. And he can revive things like fruit even if they're not attached to the rest of a plant. So what's the limit? What about things like meat? My sister suggested a rule similar to the one with banknotes - it only works if there's at least 50% - but what about something like a decapitated body? What if he touched one - would it bring it back to life? I can't stop wondering about this.

It was repeated on Sunday afternoon

guyoline - April 14, 2008 06:40 PM (GMT)
well that's a silly time, I was busy getting excited about John barrowman

ahh I'll try and watch next weeks when is it on because all i know is that I missed it

and they don't have a version of i-player do they????

Oh god, you are so right. I'd sort of thought that there was a limit on how long the person/animal/fruit could be dead for and still brought back to life but I hadnt considered headless corpses etc. Im presuming the thing has to be whole, so it can still function, but then that clashes with the fruit, which wasn't whole as it had already been picked.

Brain...melting...

But it's meant to be a modern fairytale, you're meant to leave logic at the door. It's not as if you read 'Little Red Riding Hood' and go 'hey, how can the wolf eat grandma, red, be cut open and sewed back together AND still be alive'. You just enjoy the story.

And Ros, and anybody else who's interested, ITV launched an Iplayer service. I think it's a bit more like 4OD, but it's still a watch service.

AMELIE! that's what i thought it was like! Thank you! that's been on the tip of my tongue since saturday.

guyoline - April 14, 2008 07:17 PM (GMT)
oh yay although 4od doesn't work on my mac so lets hope this does, I have so much to watch

enzotherhino - April 14, 2008 07:41 PM (GMT)
you don't actually have to download anything for the ITV on demand service - its streamed only

xjessx - April 17, 2008 09:24 PM (GMT)
Apparently they won't be showing the second episode but will be going straight to the their...why would you do that!!

guyoline - April 17, 2008 11:20 PM (GMT)
the bloody itv player thing doesn't seem to like my computer so I can't watch it and will probs miss most of them anyway... :(

oiyoupingpongman - April 18, 2008 12:36 AM (GMT)
Oh jess, I heard about that and then forgot to post. This is bloody typical of ITV and their terrible organization (my dad used to work for them, they're a shambles) and their pathetic excuse being 'oh, we didn't realise it was an odd number of episodes so now it clashes with the schedules.' Rubbish. Being American, this is bound to be about 15 weeks long, surely enough time to jig airtimes around so they're not just randomly skipping out an episode, or at least offer it online. It's so rude.

*steps off soapbox*

I'll go and find it online now ;)

Chapman - April 18, 2008 01:33 PM (GMT)
im watchign it at the moment on their itv.com/catchup

Apparently they are going to show that episode at another time as it isn't integral to a plot!....i think its to do with Euro football or some kind of sport that im not interested in!
