The Maltby Collection Ep 1/6

The Maltby Collection is a new, museum-based, non-audience sitcom from David Nobbs, the creator of The Fall And Rise Of Reginald Perrin. It stars Julian Rhind-Tutt (Green Wing) and Geoffrey Palmer.

Rod Millett (Rhind-Tutt) has always dreamed of working at The Maltby Collection. He used to visit as a teen to lust after Whistler's Sister – and Mother: he wasn't picky back then. On becoming the Museum's deputy curator of painting and sculpture, however, it quickly becomes clear that the chavvy son of a self-made biscuit mogul isn't going to fit neatly into the musty, insular world of London antiquities.

In episode one, Rod gets the job, falls in love with his immediate boss (Rachel Atkins) and the museum is threatened with closure.

Included in the cast and playing cameos in The Maltby Collection are Ben Willbond, Geoff McGivern, Julia Deakin, Michael Smiley, Chris Pavlo, Ben Moor, Barunka O'Shaughnessy, Hugh Dennis and Barry Cryer.

Episode 2 for this Friday says-

Rod and Julian are competing for Prunella's affections and both suitors seek help from the head of security, Des, in executing their own grand romantic gesture.

this is amazing! i have finally managed to listen to it, till late last night when i should of been in bed! i love it, also listened to the thing where he is stuck in a lift, that is also a VERY good listen, can't wait for this friday, but i think (unless i am getting confused again and its not hard) that i am in double biology, which is not as good as sitting somewhere listening to the maltby collection at all

Finally got to listen to part 6 today :D I'm sure Julian was playing one of the extra parts as well in this part - i.e. one of the TV people :) Really annoying ending - typical Radio Play ending really, where it just seems to get chopped off and nothing really gets rounded up nicely the way storys are in books.

However, the radio announcer did say "that was the last in the present series of The Maltby Collection" which should mean there's going to be another series and if so I'll let them off the messy ending :eehee

Do radio play endings tend to be like that? I didn't realise that. I really don't listen to radio programmes enough. :(

Whooo hoo the first series is being repeated on Radio 4 - and sooo soon :) Hopefully this means a second series is being made :eehee
