Title: 03/09/04
Description: No. 1:CAROLINE'S FIRST DAY

been_already - October 13, 2004 10:21 PM (GMT)
Dr Todd joins the hospital after a night from hell (she locked herself out her house) and by the end of the day she is having another night from hell - this time around at Guy's house.

Overall, Green Wing's debut attracted 2.2m viewers, while the follow-up episode earned 1.9m viewers.

The Great GWFF Catch-up starts today so I thought I would bring the first episode's thread to the forefront for the discussion to begin.

For everyone's future reference for the other eps, though, as they're hidden from view atm, you have to select to show all topics 'from the beginning' instead of 'the last 30 days'.

OK haven't had time to even watch the first episode again, but I will make a comment anyway :angel

Why is it if Caroline smells like a taxi cab, and also has all her belongings in the back of her borrowed car from a friend, didn't she think to grab some clean clothes and get changed in the hosital

Which bits do I like in this episode:-

First scene with Mac and Angela trying to find out if he's going to be interested in the new doctor.

The way Mac looks at Caroline and makes comments on how she looks (and smells) and then chucks some scrubs at her, and the way she does her lolloping run to catch up with him :)

enzotherhino - January 20, 2008 07:36 PM (GMT)
I managed to watch half of it. (in my defence I am supposed to be revising)

Comments:

I've never noticed before how symmetrical the opening credits were for that episode.

How does Caroline end up getting into her house and when (may end up writing this at some point...)

Joanna and Martin have very similar leather jackets. (sorry for the bad pictures they were the only ones I could find - come back cubeshack we miss you!)

I like Oliver, we don't write enough about him.

Why does Alan wear a lab coat? Surely a radiologist has very little need for one?

Playing spot the scenes that were in the pilot is fun - especially the hair cuts and Sue White's different suit.

I really want to see a fic where the is a flood/patient on fire/outbreak of AIDs so Joanna can use her talking pager.

Behind Guy in the coffee eating scene there's a sign that says "If it's not safe, don't do it." It made me laugh.

What is top-up time? I may just be being thick but we all know Mac reckons he can do it in 3 minutes (i think) but I really want to know what it is.

During the canteen scene Guy makes a really odd face and at the end Mac has a lovely smile but I can't find caps! (and trying to make my own just ended in disaster)

Top up time - the point at which Guy would have to give the patient more anaesthetic to stop it waking up. Presumably. This doesn't really happen.

Cubeshack's still there, Enzo, he's just taken down all of his media files.

aah i get it now *has lightbulb moment*

'It'? Charming! LOL!

So this doesn't really happen?! Why not? Isn't there a risk the patient could wake up without it?

Yay, well done to IMO and Enzo for getting to this.

I know! What is it about us? lol We all agree he's gorgeous and wonderful and yet we just don't obsess over him and I don't think any of us can work out why that is. More Oliver Chris talk needed! :D

A lot of doctors have no real need for their white coats, I don't think, but some of them wear them for the efficiency look, I think. There probably is more of a reason than that, though. Well, of course, we know Alan wears it for its sweeping effect round corners.

It is, isn't it? I wonder if I would have spotted those differences if they hadn't been pointed out in the commentary? I probably would have after more viewings but I didn't untill hearing the commentary.

My favourite parts of this first ep have to be Alan and Joanna scenes. It was really they who grabbed my attention and got me watching the series. They just had me rolling around in fits! My absolute favourite has to be the scene in the bar towards the end with discussion about Alan's "cocky" and the "you have got shit tits" line. I was just like " :roflmao What a lovely couple!"

Another favourite bit is the scene in the car park between Caroline and Guy. I didn't ship them then, obv. but it was still a cute but funny and yet predictable scene. Good telly!

alan wears a lab coat so he can do the whole siwshy thing duh!

kathp89 - February 13, 2008 04:33 PM (GMT)
What I want to know is how come we don't get to see the full scene of Mac and Guy shaking cocktails in the series which is partly shown in the begginning sequence of episode 1.

bingle - February 17, 2008 08:09 PM (GMT)
I know, that's always annoyed me too. We don't even get it in the deleted scenes, do we?

I didn't watch this at the appointed 're-watch time', but I put it on to make myself feel better last week, and ended up watching the entire first series again!

Favourite scene has to be Guy and the coffee/tea-eating!

Mac: Do you know what that means? Do you know what the whole of that means? That means that you won.

Edit: Also love the fact that (and I think this is mentioned in the commentary?) it was real coffee and a real teabag - yuck!

i decided I should watch this episode as I'm in bed with the flu and oh my goodness, you see the scene with Sue and Alan where they talk about his badge and he sais the letters ONS and LTA were blacked out?

and then sue says"I suggest you scribble out the bits you don't want, I'd loose the second line rather then the first" well I have finally got what she meant. I know that's slow of me but does anyone else actually get what she means or is it one of those things where when you get it, it's so obvious but before that you are just confused???

Little_Simba - February 28, 2008 05:20 PM (GMT)
Either
a) I never got it
or
B) I did get it but I've forgotten it
or
c) You've just confused me  ;)

This is a separate implication from that of the blackened out letters, right?

Um, isn't this scene in episode 1 of series 2?

guyoline - February 29, 2008 12:40 AM (GMT)
no series one as i watched it just before I posted

and she said "I suggest you cross out the bits you don't want - I'd loose the second line rather then the first" meaning that he should not want to be a radiologist but wants *that word begining with C and ending in T*
i think that's the joke, it has taken me too long to get

Little_Simba - February 29, 2008 08:04 PM (GMT)
LOL, this really does show how badly I need to watch Green Wing again. I am ashamed to have been so neglectful.

xpingux - February 29, 2008 09:09 PM (GMT)
i got the joke :P B)
when i first saw it i couldnt stop laughing lol!

littlered - March 3, 2008 07:37 PM (GMT)
Yep, I got it. :) I'm not sure Statham did, though, he looked a bit flustered.

Little_Simba - March 15, 2008 11:22 PM (GMT)
There are times when you're never entirely sure if Statham actually doesn't 'get' stuff or if he just pretends to be above it. I think there are also times when he pretends to pretend to be above it BECAUSE he doesn't get it.  :notworthy

IMO - July 9, 2008 04:54 PM (GMT)
Why does Caroline get a change of clothes out of her car (the honk me to bonk me scene) and then not put them on

bingle - July 9, 2008 06:21 PM (GMT)
Well would you want to get changed in the middle of a hospital car park?

IMO - July 9, 2008 08:22 PM (GMT)
Sorry I apologise

Why wasn't Caroline changed into her clean clothes by the time she was in Guy's flat :)
