Title: Antidote To Deadmac
Description: or, simple CaroMac smut
lm248 - January 20, 2007 10:23 PM (GMT)
Does exactly what it says on the tin. I was getting so miserable hearing about Mac dying! This is a fic regarding what might have happened if things had gone differently the night of the houseparty in S1.
Enjoy!
Mac shifted his weight slightly so he was sitting cross legged beside Caroline, rubbing her back in gentle circles. Really, a doctor should know better than to get this drunk, but for some reason seeing her in this state didn’t annoy him like it should; in general times, Caroline didn’t make him feel like he should.
The first time he’d met her he’d seen a temperamental, eccentric doctor who seemed more preoccupied with the latest gossip then with her job, and it had annoyed him. But somewhere along the way, despite his best efforts, he’d felt himself softening to her quirky sense of humour. There was something unconventional about her, something that broke the mould, and it intrigued him.
She moaned quietly and heaved again, causing him to wince and shift again to support her when she looked like toppling over sideways. Her skin was soft and cool to the touch and he had to fight hard against the urge to stroke her upper arms as he held her in place.
She sat back, exhausted, and his hand trailed of its own accord up to her hair, smoothing it down in even strokes, his thumb grazing down her cheek.
Every fibre of Mac’s being wanted to pull her close and kiss her, despite the fact she’d been very sick, despite the fact she’d kissed Guy, Martin and Sue all in that evening. But the fact that she was so drunk she didn’t know what she was doing stopped him; the guilt he would feel the next day would be unbearable. So, fighting himself, he slowly pulled her upright and helped her through to her room before laying her down on the bed and putting the bin next to her. Then he left and headed downstairs in search of Angela.
“Hey, Angela – Caroline’s passed out upstairs. D’you think you could look after her?”
Angela swayed, her eyes trying to focus on Mac as her boyfriend grabbed her from behind to stop her falling.
“Right. That’s a no then.”
Angela was picked up and carried off, and looking around Mac realised that there was nobody else around sober enough to look after Caroline. He didn’t mind sitting with her, but undressing her and putting her into fresh pyjamas felt a little wrong.
Thankfully when he’d got upstairs he found her clothes on a heap on the floor and Caroline fast asleep, snoring lightly. With a grin, he folded himself into the surprisingly comfortable chair in the corner and allowed himself to doze off.
Sunlight streaming through the curtains in the morning woke him up, although Caroline was still sleeping soundly. Thankful that he didn’t have to go into work, Mac levered himself out of the chair and decided to borrow the shower, feeling grubby from last night. As the water beat down on him he rested his head on the tiles, wondering when he’d suddenly become such an emotional idiot. The Mac that he’d grown up as didn’t play doctor outside of hospital shifts, and certainly didn’t sleep in a chair overnight just to make sure a friend was alright.
But was she really a friend? Or was she more?
Scrubbing at his eyes, he stepped out of the shower and grabbed the nearest towel to hand to cover up with as he mooched downstairs to see about food. Angela’s influence on the house was clear – tea bags, coffee powder and sugar were all in neatly labelled containers on the worktop, the milk in the fridge was in-date and, unlike in Mac’s flat, the cereal was in the box as opposed to scattered around the floor.
Sticking two slices of bread into the toaster he put the kettle on and waited for it to boil. It was only after he’d added milk and two sugars to Caroline’s mug that it occurred to him to wonder how he knew what she liked for breakfast, but the answer to that (he’d been watching her every move in the staff room) was a little bit creepy for him, so he didn’t think about it. Instead he busied himself making up the tray with tea, toast and enough painkillers to knock out an elephant, and headed up the stairs balancing it on one arm.
Pushing open the door with one elbow, he looked inside. Caroline hadn’t moved since he’d left, but she wasn’t snoring any more. He put the tray down quietly on the bedside table and knelt down beside her at eye-level, almost jumping out of his skin as she looked at him blearily.
“I…whu?”
Mac bit his lip hard, certain that laughing at this point wouldn’t go down well, and passed her the mug of tea and aspirin. She took it was slightly trembling hands but the caffeine worked its magic immediately and she sighed happily before an expression of worry suddenly hit her face.
“Oh god…did I do anything terrible last night?”
He considered that for a moment before shaking his head.
“Not really. Well, you were horribly sick in the toilet…and you kissed…now let me see,” he counted off on his fingers, “Guy, Martin, Sue White…I think that was all.”
Caroline cringed, slumping down into the pillows.
“Oh god. I didn’t…you didn’t…we didn’t?”
It suddenly occurred to Mac that putting on some clothes might have been a good idea before attempting this conversation but he tried to seem confident.
“No. I didn’t, you didn’t, we didn’t.”
“Oh” sighed Caroline, “Thank God for that, because…kissing you would have been terrible. Definitely.”
She was chewing on her lip as she spoke which made it all very distracting for Mac and without even thinking he found himself leaning in towards her, and then she was leaning in towards him, and then they were kissing. Her mouth was soft and warm and tasted of milky tea and in that moment Dr Macartney felt himself freefalling into lust and something else which he didn’t want to contemplate. Reluctantly they pulled apart although somehow his hands had got entangled in her hair, and she chewed her lip again.
“I think I might have to reconsider what I said about kissing you being terrible” she said, sounding faintly dazed.
“It’s fine,” he said, stroking her cheek, “I wasn’t listening anyway.”
She tried to look put out at that but it didn’t work and he pulled her into another kiss, unable to resist. This one was more heated, their tongues duelling wildly as he pulled her close. Caroline shifted towards him, her skin touching his and setting him alight as her hands combed through his hair, stroking a sensitive spot on his neck before raking sharply down his back, making him groan loudly, lust spiking through him.
A thought suddenly flashed into his mind and with a mischievous grin he scooped Caroline up off the bed, very much appreciating her nakedness, and carried her out of the bedroom, ignoring her half-hearted squeals. With one foot he kicked open the bathroom door, and saw comprehension dawning on her face, along with a slightly evil grin. Grabbing him by the hand, she pulled him into the shower, crushing his body against hers as she fumbled with the tap behind her back. Water gushed out of the showerhead, shocking Mac with its coldness, and he swore under his breath.
“That was very cruel, Dr Todd” he said, pretending to look hurt, but failing as the water warmed up gradually. He pressed his lips to hers softly and ran a hand down her bare arm. The water ran through her hair pressing it to her head, and she kept pushing it out of her eyes, looking suddenly shy.
“You’re beautiful” he said, not knowing what possessed him to come out with that, but it seemed to work because Caroline relaxed under his fingers and smiled up at him angelically before her fingers curled around his erection making him gasp. After that, lust took over and they spent time that could have been minutes or hours exploring each other’s bodies with their fingers and lips and tongues. The hot water beat down over them increasing the temperature of the cubicle even more as Mac, unable to take any more, positioned himself to sink into Caroline.
Realising what he was about to do, Caroline slid up on the wall and wrapped her legs around his waist, clinging onto his shoulders for dear life, her breath laboured. He kissed her forehead, and then her temple, her cheek, her jaw, her neck and lingered on her collarbone, gently nipping and sucking the skin there until she was virtually moaning, her nails digging into his back, the pain mingling with pleasure to leave him more turned on than he’d ever been in his life.
Sliding inside Caroline was like nothing on earth. The sensation threatened to overwhelm Mac and he had to take a deep breath and hold still for a moment to centre himself before he lowered his hips slightly and pushed upwards, eliciting a moan from Caroline. They swayed together in that rhythm, battered by the water, both lost in the moment, until Caroline froze, sucking in her breath and tightening around him in waves, her head tipping forwards onto his shoulder. The pressure sent him over the edge and he came silently, biting his lip as stars swam in front of his eyes. He was dimly aware of sliding down to the floor cradling Caroline in his arms, and then things were fuzzy for a while.
When he finally snapped out of his stupor, she was still resting against his chest, her heart rate coming back to normal. As though sensing his eyes on her, she looked up and flashed him a nervous smile, a smile that spoke of men who’d loved her and left her, and in that moment Mac decided firmly that he wasn’t going to be one of those.
A little voice in his head pointed out that he’d decided that 12 hours ago at the latest, when he’d not kissed her in her drunken state, but he decided to ignore that voice in lieu of kissing her lightly on the lips. Neither of them made any move to get up or dressed until the water started running cooler and goose bumps sprang up on Caroline’s arms and legs. Feeling oddly protective, Mac tugged her out of the shower and wrapped her in a towel, holding her tight even as she pulled a towel off the rail behind her and wrapped it around his shoulders.
“That was fun, Dr Mac” she said with a hint of a smile. “I think we should do it again sometime.”
Mac pretended to think about that.
“Well, I’ve got a free evening tomorrow…I could cook if you like?”
She smiled properly then, a big smile that lit up her face.
“I’d like that very much”
He bent down and kissed her again.
“I suppose I should get back home and…um…get some clean clothes” he said, hoping she’d disagree with him.
“Yeah, yeah sure. Unless you didn’t sleep very well…you could always have a nap in my bed before you go.”
He smiled, his eyes crinkling.
“That would all depend on whether you’d be in bed with me.”
Caroline tilted her head to the side.
“I think I could be persuaded” she said consideringly, and before she could think of anything to say Mac had scooped her up and carried her back into the bedroom, laying her back on the bed. She snuggled in next to him, her hand resting across his chest, and slowly their breathing eased until they were both asleep.
And they lived happily ever after :)

I realise that that post made me sound like I enjoyed death but I DO NOT. I meant that I appreciated the happiness of it, seeing as there have been an amazing amount of Mac deaths recently...

I have just found this board and wanted to let you know how much i enjoyed this and your other Green Wing stories.Everything was spot on and the humour was fantastic,i really hope to read more from you in the future.I did notice at one point you asked for inspiration for plotlines and if that is still welcome i always thought it would have been interesting if after the coma Mac actually did keep dating Emmy and how Caroline would of coped with this. Not very original i know but i always wondered how it was explained to Mac why she was not there. It never fails to amaze me how truly outstanding the talent is in the fanfiction world, you have certainly cheered me up after the reality of no more Green Wing. :hug
