QUOTE
Classic Sixties airport farce Boeing-Boeing, whose admirers included the Queen, is back in the West End.

A trio of TV stars will play the flight attendants conducting affairs with the same Parisian playboy.

Former EastEnders actress Tamzin Outhwaite, Michelle Gomez of Channel 4 comedy show Green Wing and Daisy Beaumont of spoof TV show Star Stories are all appearing at the Comedy Theatre in the French farce by Marc Camoletti.

All three actresses make their West End debuts in leading roles. Olivier award-winning actor Roger Allam plays playboy Bernard and the cast also includes Frances de la Tour and Mark Rylance, former artistic director of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre.

West End producers Sonia Friedman and Matthew Byam Shaw, whose recent hit revivals include See How They Run and Donkey's Years, collaborate in this new bid to challenge the theatreland dominance of blockbuster musicals such as Spamalot, Wicked and Dirty Dancing.

The cast and producers hope Boeing-Boeing will stay aloft longer than recent casualties such as Bent and Summer And Smoke. The 1962 version, with Nicholas Parsons and Leslie Phillips, lasted five years.

Beaumont said: "It's the perfect antidote to the February blues. It's nice for the audience to enjoy a bit of nonsense that is not politicised." Outhwaite said: "It's very nice to do something that's entertainment for entertainment's sake."

Gomez added: "French farces are very different from English ones because we all get to keep our knickers on!"

Boeing-Boeing is directed by Matthew Warchus, whose Lord Of The Rings musical opens in the West End in May.

• Boeing-Boeing opens at the Comedy Theatre on 15 February.

I love LOTR but I can't see it working on the stage. I mean how are they going to fit thousands of fighting Orcs on the stage all at once

Apparently Mackenzie whatsit from The Office is in this French farce as well.

The first night's been cancelled but other than that- tickets are about £35 and atm I can't find any discounts. Keep your eyes peeled. Although not actually peeled- that would be painful and probably quite damaging.

QueenGW - January 31, 2007 11:55 AM (GMT)

bingle - January 31, 2007 12:01 PM (GMT)
I'll let you all know how the LOTR musical works when I go see it. My other half's parents got hold of some tickets, so we're going!

guyoline - January 31, 2007 04:27 PM (GMT)

swissluvagirl - February 1, 2007 12:54 PM (GMT)

Little_Simba - February 10, 2007 12:09 AM (GMT)
I'm going to (hopefully) be booking tickets for this v. soon. I should be going towards the end of the month. It looks good, doesn't it? *dances*

macismygod - February 10, 2007 04:11 PM (GMT)
yah it looks very good!

CupboardLady - February 13, 2007 08:17 PM (GMT)
Nah, it was the original opening night, got cancelled before the tickets went on sale so I'm sure your friend will be fine, SLG.

Cheapest tickets £15 now. It'll be on for a while so I'm not booking yet.

guyoline - February 13, 2007 11:15 PM (GMT)
jemma I think we should go together - a bit nearer the end just in case the prices go down a bit more :D

CupboardLady - February 13, 2007 11:21 PM (GMT)
And I would have to say that's a very good idea :D

CupboardLady - February 19, 2007 11:00 PM (GMT)
There was a review in todays Metro. They basically said it was shit but were nice about the female leads :S Only gave it 2 stars though. maybe this will make the tickets cheaper due to lack of demand?

guyoline - February 19, 2007 11:03 PM (GMT)
oh that's dissipointing but here's hoping that it does make tickets cheeper as I still want to see it

I went to see Boeing Boeing on Tuesday and it was really, really good - better than I'd expected, not that I hadn't expected it to be good but it was EVEN better than I'd expected. I think the main thing that did it for me was the fact that I'd been thinking I might end up a bit disappointed as Michelle was a different character and, let's face it, I like her as Sue White, really but it was soooooo good because her character in this is nearly as mad as Sue! :cheer2 :yeeay There were several Suesque moments in the play and I was laughing my head off. I strongly suspect she brought a lot of that to the play and her character as it just seemed very her and I can't imagine it was written q. like that. Boeing Boeing was around in the 1960s and I don't know how close this version is to the original but I'm prepared to bet Michelle's part was the most different from that of the original. B) She rocks! I can just see her going wild and all the directors panicking during rehearsals.

Oh, you people who find her attractive will certainly like to go and see her in this. She's very sexy and in a yellow air hostess outfit most of the time. My boyfriend, who isn't particularly keen on her, said afterwards that he found her a lot more attractive close up. We were in the third row so we had a good close view as well (and we got a glimpse of her knickers :o  )

Even aside from Michelle, this is something I'd definitely recommend going to see anyway (well, if you like this sort of thing). I thought it was the best farce I've ever seen and everyone in it was great. Seeing Frances de la Tour was fab and she got the most laughs, I think. Her character was so sarcastic.

Funny thing, though - we went to the bar in the interval and, on the way back to our seats we had to walk past he queue for the ladies and I didn't notice but my boyfriend said that he thought Nicole Appleton was in the queue. Then, at the end, he said to me "Liam Gallagher's here" and, sure enough, as we left, there he was, waiting by the main entrance and I practically literally brushed shoulders with him (lol) as I walked past him. Anyone who remembers my talking several months ago of my dislike of Oasis will get a laugh out of this, I'm sure! Apparently, his wife's good friends with Tamsin Outhwaite so he accompanied her to the play and they were sitting up in the circle (Cheaper seats than we had! OK... Mind you, I only got ones near the front because I can get them cheaper as I'm a member of Upstage but it still gave me a giggle.)

CupboardLady - March 11, 2007 09:45 PM (GMT)
WOW LS!!! And well done for being better than Liam! lol. I really will have to go and see this- the run's just been extended till the end of June so I assume it's very popular!

guyoline - March 11, 2007 11:21 PM (GMT)
