What can I tell you? A few ground rules - no bombing, no running, no petting, no diving and no inflatables.

When you are writing scenes involving s*x, smut, slash, and any other s word you can think of, please please please remember to err on the side of caution and keep it clean.

It isn't necessary to go into full explicit detail, the art of a true writer is make the reader use their imagination.

Just keep somewhere inbetween Mills and Boon and less top shelf dirty man's porno mag and it should be fine.

However, if the mods/admin feel something is too smutty we will edit. You have been warned. Also if you have read something yourself that's made you think "hang on a minute" then please let one of us know.

yeah so do I and well GW is a quite rude program to begin with and so smut is kinda inevitable...

Yes I agree that GW is often rude, but didn't one of the actors comment in the commentaries about the lack of actual sex in the show? (I think it may have been Tamsin but I'm not sure?)

I have to say, I do agree with Imo that the trick to great writing is to encourage the readers imagination... smut can be good, but just be careful not to get too carried away.

If you're unsure you can always ask one of the mods/admin to read it before you post. I know Imo has done this for a few people in the past, and I don't mind doing that as well.

Yeah, I don't mind reading stuff before it's posted either and, although I'm not here as often as I should be, I'd make sure I answered any PMs as soon as I got them.

I'm not sure what to say on this subject in general but I understand if the forum has rules and limits, especially in view of the young members here. On the whole, I, personally, have no objection to erotic stuff but, yeah, fair's fair. As long as there's a line that isn't crossed, everyone will hopefully be happy.

As the fan fic section is almost impossible for us to keep up with because of the sheer volume of threads and posts. To have a guideline in place, makes our job easier as people will to some extent self moderate themselves.

Out of all the Fan Fics I should think I've read about 3 which have been too explicit, and that's over the whole of the last year and beyond.

Basically describing a sexual act in full and very explicit detail.

Slapping an 18+ on a Fic

Never works. The minute anyone see's an 18+ sign the first thing they're going to do (regardless of how old they are) is go and read the thread. It's like a red rag to a charging bull.


I hope this stops utter panic setting in, and I want a tenner for everytime I've typed out the word 'explicit' over the last 24 hours :)

I would say, btw, that I can see the point of the 18+/ratings idea, although I agree it will make more people read it but you couldn't then say they hadn't been warned. That's just my opinion, anyway, but ignore me.
