Title: "she's My Smoo Too!"
littlered - November 6, 2006 09:50 PM (GMT)
One thing I've never understood is why Guy understood that this meant that Joanna was both his and Martin's mother, due to the fact that he didn't know that Martin was her son. I know that the whole "Long lost sister ... brother ... smother ... smoo?" bit would make it easier to work out, but Guy seemed to be deliberately not understanding (as no one wants to realise that they've just had sex with their own mother). What about that line made him work it all out?
I'm sure PR will have a perfectly reasonable answer for this that will make me look very stupid (like last time), but never mind. What does everyone think?

Well.
I think he was already realising it.
I mean, It had just dawned on Joanna, and he must've realised something was going on. And then it kind of went on from there.
OR
The writers thought the line was funny.

Also, I always kinda got the impression that Martin being Joanna's son was one of those 'worst kept secret' kind things. I thought everyone probably knew/realised... which gave Joanna's attempts to hide it a layer of ironic humour.
Therefore, Guy would know she was Martin's 'smoo' and hence ... the line works.

Didn't Martin say "she's your smoo" followed by "she's my smoo too"
Sorry would find exact words, but my GW book of scripts is upstairs and it's too far to walk

Not that I can remember - he way trying to mime "mother" while Guy was guessing, and then he just burst out with it. I think it was like this:
"Buzzy buzzy penis?"
"SHE'S MY SMOO TOO!"
That may be wrong though.

OK I've got the book down.
Guy: Shorter? She's my long lost smoo?
MARTIN TAPS TWO FINGERS ON HIS ARM
Guy: Two...? Two arms? Two syllables. What?! One syllable, one syllable....
MARTIN CAN'T SAY THE WORD. HE DOES MORE ACTIONS.
Guy: Buzzy buzzy penis?
Martin: She's my smoo too!
Guy: She - she's your smoo? And my smoo?
THE AWFUL TRUTH HAS DAWNED ON GUY
Martin: What are we going to do?
THEY WHACK EACH OTHER.
