GREEN WING NEWS Issue 13 - 2nd November 2006 Green Wing
Hello everyone. This is a super-quick Green Wing update: Channel 4 have just announced their winter lineup and we want to get the news about the special episode out to you nice and fast...
Below is the blurb they've just released for the one and a half hour long final episode (warning: slight spoilers):
"The critically-acclaimed Green Wing is back for a one-off Christmas Special. From the award-winning team behind Smack the Pony, this genre-defying comedy proves medical issues needn't have any relevance in a hospital setting. As the mayhem and madness continues, how will it all end for our favourite dysfunctional medics?"
"The end is nigh – Caroline (Tamsin Greig) is now engaged to Guy (Stephen Mangan), while Mac (Julian Rhind-Tutt) has very little time to live. Gripped by desperation and paranoia, dwarf-killing duo Statham (Mark Heap) and Joanna (Pippa Haywood) are on the run, jumping relentlessly out of frying pans and into fires (not quite literally). With no-one left in charge, the admin girls let their basic instincts run wild, while something very strange has happened to Karen (Lucinda Raikes) after her fall from the window. Boyce (Oli Chris) discovers life without Statham, Sue White (Michelle Gomez) spots a job opportunity and Martin (Karl Theobald) feels utterly helpless. Again. Still, at least it all ends happily ever after. Or does it?"
Sounds good doesn't it! When will this special air? Well it is still yet to be decided. This new press release marks the episode as a highlight of their January schedule (noooo!), however we are hoping that is incorrect. As we mentioned in the last newsletter Australia should be showing the final special in late December so C4 couldn't possibly show it after them could they?!?
We contacted C4 to try and clarify things - we got this vague response back from their spokesperson: "We don't have an exact TX date [transmission date] as yet but it is likely to air near Christmas Time at the end of December."
So, sorry, it looks like a bit of a longer wait than we first thought.
Other Green Wing Stuff
- There is still a few days left to enter our script book competition.
- Talking of the book - we hear that the publishers had a few problems getting the stock to all the retailers on time but the problem is now sorted. Both Amazon and Play.com are now shipping the books.
- Congratulations to GW Production Designer Jonathan Paul Green and GW editors Lucien Clayton and Billy Sneddon for being shortlisted for Royal Television Society Craft and Design Awards. The ceremony is on the 20th November. We've got our fingers crossed for them!
- JRT and Stephen Mangan only briefly appeared on the Channel 4 highlights broadcast of the latest Secret Policeman's Ball. If you want to see the Green Wing sketch that was performed on the night then you'll need to get hold of the DVD of the entire show which will be in the shops in December (pre-order from Amazon). There's some behind-the-scenes footage of Stephen and Tamsin at the event on YouTube.
- The charity eBay script auction closed at £169 - congratulations to the team who organised that. Watch that seller ID on eBay as they will be uploading some more charity GW auctions soon.
- Quite excitingly the same team are organising a Green Wing fan convention. It'll be held on the 13th January in London. There will be an auction in aid of Great Ormond St Hospital, GW related-games, screenings, quizzes and more. There's a few tickets left so if you would like to know more email Terri at info@terri-nixon.co.uk making sure you put "Wingin' It" in the subject line. Please note: the event is strictly over 18s only due to licensing laws. Hopefully see some of you there!
More GW news as we get it but in the meantime don't get too cold!

xpingux - November 2, 2006 07:27 PM (GMT)
Seeing as it is Green Wing and it will probably not be an obvious ending, maybe Fartin will end up with Caroline?

I KNOW!
Don't they realise that half the fans are under eighteen?
At least judging by the forum, anyway. :D

If Mac does die, that is it, I'm boycotting channel 4, then I'm getting a big ass atom bomb and blowing the bastards up!
I wish they would just get their asses in gear and set a fucking date!

i'm WITH YOU ALL THE WAY!!!!1
what the hell was all the buildup for if he just DIES in the end? and some one really has it in for him cos hes jst gon from CRISIS TO CRISIS in s2. time someone gave him a break.
xpingux - November 3, 2006 06:35 PM (GMT)
yeah i agree!
poor mac! :(
Little_Simba - November 3, 2006 07:16 PM (GMT)
I still don't think Mac's going to die. :) I think all will end a bit more happily than that, even if it isn't as happy as we may like...
Fair enough, we all hate Channel 4 atm (although, as Jess said in another thread, we can't hate them too much as they did bring us GW, after all) but we can't really hold it against Channel 4 in the awful event of Mac's dying as it's the writers and production team who are responsible for plot. Sorry to be a bore but fair's fair. :pelt
Look on the bright side, people (easier said than done, I know); the longer we have to wait for the special, the longer Green Wing will be running for... seeing as series 3 is so un-bloody-likely. *cries hysterically and then remembers she's the one trying to be optimistic*
Pingu, I actually wouldn't be surprised if Caroline does end up with Martin. I could see them doing that. :pelt
A Green Wing fan convention!!! :raiseroof :raiseroof What's the betting I won't make it, though? I'll see what I can arrange for that weekend regarding a convenient trip to London. *sniff* (Hugs for everyone under 18, btw :( :hug )
xpingux - November 4, 2006 11:11 AM (GMT)
If Mac dies, it's hardly a comedy... :cry
And Channel 4 did bring us Black Books and Spaced too!
Channel 4 can bug me sometimes though becasue I can remember waiting for a program to be shown, but instead a film was shown which really bugged me becasue I had set the tape so it taped the film! And I didn't know at the time becasue I was out... :ph43r:
But yeah maybe Martin does..

Hehe! maybe....! I heard someone else dies but that Mac is alive.... Sue finds a new job (or job opportunity or something??) interesting.. perhaps it has something to do with acidic vaginas? I think that the Jesus triengle was below the window and caught Karen?
XTinker_Bellx - November 7, 2006 07:31 PM (GMT)
meh I have a personal vendetta against Channel 4 atm, I know I can't hold the GW thing against them but I can use it as another reason to hate them.
xpingux - November 7, 2006 07:39 PM (GMT)
gaah i wish we knew when it was gonna be shown! :(
it's killing me!
PigRescuer - November 7, 2006 07:47 PM (GMT)
eleven days till we find out if my date was right.

xpingux - November 8, 2006 07:41 AM (GMT)
lol! :P
me and my sister have been coming up with a load of bizare theories such as sue sending the train, then she would meet caroline and kill her by. not very nice, we know.
XTinker_Bellx - November 8, 2006 09:45 PM (GMT)
actually that's perfectly viable, I mean this is Green Wing after all
xpingux - November 9, 2006 07:42 AM (GMT)
lol :P
i wonder where sue is going to work
XTinker_Bellx - November 9, 2006 07:40 PM (GMT)
I don't want Sue to leave, she is like one of the best characters :(
PigRescuer - November 9, 2006 07:41 PM (GMT)
Maybe she'll take ove Joanna's job?
I think that's quite likely.
IMO - November 9, 2006 08:43 PM (GMT)
Yes I think Sue will be after Joanna's job as well :)
