"I cant believe youre taking me to Cardiff for our engagement holiday," Caroline got out of the car, almost walking right into the millenium centre as she was too busy glaring at her fiancé Mac who had the decency to look a bit shame-faced.

"I cant believe you wanted to bring along Guy," Mac retorted.

"She didnt, I nagged to find out where you two were going and she didnt have the heart to tell me I wasnt allowed go," Guy said, cheerfully, "Especially as she dumped me three days after we got engaged."

"You seem to have recovered from that pretty well," Mac responded, unaware of two men also bantering quite cheerfully rise to the surface on a slightly raised pavement slab and stand looking at the three of them, grinning cheerfully and eyeing up the three oblivious doctors.

"Well I met someone," Guy grinned.

"You slept with Sue," Caroline rolled her dark eyes, "Even AFTER you found out she had mixed up Macs papers."

"Thought it was ingenious," Guy smiled and then walked into a young man who had stepped down from the slab, "Oh sorry."

"Quite all right," said the man with a charming smile, "Ianto Jones."

"Stupid name," Guy responded.

The young man by Ianto's side hid a smile, "I bet yours is all glamorous and sexy is it?"

"Its Guy Secretan," Mac informed them, grinning broadly at Guy's discomfort.

The second man chuckled.

"Well it isnt Jumping Jack Flash," smiled the man, an odd melancholy look coming into his eyes.

"What is it then?" Guy didnt like the way Caroline was giggling with Mac or the way Ianto was surreptitiously eyeing up the second man. When all attention was away from his much superior looks and personality, he felt a little p*ssed off.

"Jack Harkness," the man replied, calling over a Whoosing noise.

"You forgot Captain," Ianto said, jerking out of his semi-trance and switching his eyes back onto his own feet.

"I didnt forget," Jack smiled, "So, why are you three in Cardiff?"

"His idea of an engagement celebration," Caroline replied, smiling, jerking her head towards Mac.

"Congratulations," Ianto said, pleasantly.

"But why here? Why here did you decide to park?" Jack asked, this time a wary and curious expression in his eyes.

"I needed a p*ss," Guy admitted, "Mac and Caroline wanted to look at the Millenium Centre. Why?"

"No reason," Jack replied, smiling again.

"For the five hundredth time, no one sent us here!" Caroline and Mac said in unison, both looking irritated. Guy was smiling in amusement.

"Okay, seeing as you seem absolutely sure no one sent you here, Ill show you round," Jack smiled, "Ianto you bring Lions Mane..."

"Oi!" Mac protested, looking annoyed.

"And Doctor Turd after I bring Caption Secretion down," Jack finished.

"Have you been talking to a mad Scottish woman by any chance?" Caroline looked irritated at the same time as Guy cried, "Its Secretan, not Secretion."

"Come on, Secretan," Jack grinned and tugged Guy onto the raised pavement slab.

"Hey, this is moving," Guy looked a bit startled as the pavement slab moved downwards.

"Great powers of observation," Jack smiled, "Wonder what else youll be good for."

Guy decided not to ask what Jack meant by that and for the first time in his life shut up.

"What the.............." Guys voice trailed off as he gazed round the building he was in. The fact that four curious (two of them very attractive females) gazes were on him and Jack completely passed him by as he looked round. There was so much interesting and amazing things that as a curious g*t, he was dying to go round and poke. Including a hand floating in a jar of liquid.

"Guy, stop staring at the hand," Jack noticed where Guy was looking, "Ive been trying to get your attention for the last half hour."

"Half an hour?" said a man, "More like ten minutes, cant you tell the time?"

"Course not," said a young Asian woman, "His brains too clogged up with alien artefacts to even remember a thing like time."

"Or hes too busy trying to scheme up ways of getting you two to shut up," laughed a young Welsh woman.

"Guy, Id like to introduce you to Toshiko, Owen and Gwen, my Torchwood partners," Jack said.

"Whats Torchwood?" Guy asked, immediately, "And what did she mean by alien artefacts?"

Jack hesitated and as Caroline, Mac and Ianto came down to join them, Caroline and Mac, looking a bit startled, he thought about how he was going to go about answering that question.

"Do you really want to know?" Jack asked, directing his question at Caroline, Mac and Guy but looking right at Guy.

"Yes," Guy answered, promptly.

"No, weve seen enough," Caroline said, "I wanna go to our hotel."

"Ill take them Sir," Ianto said, getting a nod of approval and thanks from Jack, "Here you two, Ill take you out the front way."

Jack said nothing but watched Ianto lead Mac and Caroline out. He then switched his attention back to Guy, "So what you want to know?"

"Why do you have that hand in a jar?" Guy asked. It was the first thing that came into his head.

Jack said nothing but indicated with a slight eyeflick to the ground that Guy asked something else, "What is this place?"

"Torchwood," Jack said, simply. "We catch aliens, scavenge for alien relics and occasionally stop the human race from dying or from finding out about us."

"But your.......... hideout is directly beside the Millenium Centre, dont people notice?" Guy asked.

"Nope," Toshiko answered, "Perception filter kinda hides the lift you came down on."

"Plus we dont go round wearing placards saying please visit the torchwood hideout, childrens tickets one pound nighty, adults three pounds open mondays to saturdays," Owen spoke up.

"Thanks Owen," Jack said, "So Guy. For someone who just found out that aliens exist you dont look scared or confused."

"Cos im not," Guy told him, simply, "It kinda makes sense actually."

If Captain Jack Harkness got surprised easily, he would have been stunned then.

"So," Jack jumped. He had clean forgotten Guy had asked him to teach him how to use the guns in Torchwood this morning and was momentarily taken aback to see Guy sitting comfortably in Iantos seat, looking tired but happy.

"Guy, I thought you were Ianto," Jack said, calming down quickly.

"No you didnt," Guy grinned, "You hadnt a f*cking clue who I was."

Jack smiled. He didnt know why he didnt make Guy forget about Torchwood as he told Ianto to make his friends forget about it. Maybe because Guy wasnt a wimp like his friends or maybe there was another reason. Like why he asked Gwen to sign up. He hadnt asked Gwen to join because she was attractive - although that was a good reason and he liked her company - but because she reminded him ever-so-slightly of Rose Tyler. He had chosen the Torchwood team based on their personalities and how they reminded him of the Doctor and Rose. He wanted to see the Doctor in Guy and he was pleasantly surprised to see some qualities in Guy.

Such as his friendliness and warmth, his determination to know something and his talent at getting people to shut up when he wanted them to.


Jack wasnt a fool and he knew that the fact Guy was a little like the Doctor wasnt the only reason why he asked Guy if he would like to help out during the two months he was in Cardiff.
