Hmm, anyone got an opinion on this? Green Wing
not being set in a hospital?!?
It's have to have a new name! Ooh...I sense a poll coming on... :high
"Produced by the Smack The Pony stable, Green Wing was an ambitious sitcom/sketch hybrid that featured a posse of bright young comedy talent and a flash production style (slow-motion and sped-up tape in abundance). The comedy worked on almost every level and the actors were encouraged to improvise around scenes they were given - the writers then incorporating improvised material into revised scripts. The cast were uniformly good but Mark Heap, Pippa Haywood and Michelle Gomez were especially outstanding, essaying grotesque characters engaged in deeply embarrassing deeds. The hospital setting was almost superfluous in all of this, with procedures and patients strictly a side issue. (Indeed, it was suggested that a second series might not even be set in a hospital.)
Although Green Wing made a big splash - a second series was commissioned halfway through the run of the first - it was not universally popular. Some viewers were troubled by the novel production techniques and the abnormal episode length (a shade over an hour). Mostly, though, critics and public alike were united in their praise for Vicki Pile's latest creation, hailing it as a truly original invention - and sometimes devastatingly funny to boot."
