I doubt this is relevant but something struck me as I was watching some deleted scenes on the series 1 DVD last night.

You know the deleted scene with Alan and Mac when Alan's saying the hospital WILL be able to cope without Mac when he goes to Sheffield and then Mac says he lied when he said it had been a PLEASURE working with Alan? Well, at the end of that scene, once Mac's walked off, Alan looks at an x-ray and say something like "Oh, dear, the inevitability of death" and then throws it down and it just seemed when he looked at that and said that that an idea came into his head involving Mac........

Like I say, I doubt this is relevant but it occurred to me we could have another theory and reason to blame Statham for Mac's results..........

this is probably nothing to do with it, but in episode 7 Alan goes up to Mac and asks for some tests to be done..
Maybe they are Alan's results? And he took the tests that Alan asked for so it had his name on it?
(but you never see the tests being taken so i think what i have just written is complete nonsense)
