Anyone else love these two series. Having a mad DVD splurge this Xmas and getting special editions of both of these shows.

I love Black Books - surreal and very funny. Bill Bailey, Tamzin and Dylan Moran all in one programme - what could be better? (other than GW obv.!)

Which series is best to get on DVD? I know S1 involved G. Linehan in writing (and as i :heart Father Ted) does the series diminish with each season?!?!

I'm a bit of a spaced obsessive, and it comes a very close second in my internal poll of top tv! But in my lack of collectors edition DVD box set, can I see if anyone does own this, and can tell me whether its worth getting, seeing as I already own the dvds!?!?
I've heard 'Skip to the End', the docu, is great. any opinions? Or am I infact talking to myself?

Bought all three seasons on DVD of BB...have ot say, season two is my favourite...if only for the bizarre puppet extra bit on the DVD where Bernard shoves Manny in the microwave after Fran and himself have lots of drugs...
:wtf
You really do need ot see it to understand....

Yeah those puppets were funny. I love Black Books, yeah I think season 2 was the best, but it's all good.

I thought Black Books was the best performances I've ever seen from Dylan Moran and Tamsin Grieg.

cant believe i've never seen black books but every1 says it really good so ive brought series1 waiting 4 it 2 cum .... are they goin to do another series
or is there only 3 series
kittyofdoom - April 14, 2006 09:28 PM (GMT)
There are three series to Black Books and I think that is all they are going to do. It's genius, you'll love it :) and JRT turns up for an episode in series three.
I also love Spaced. There was a lot of speculation as to whether or not they were going to do a 3rd series, I think they had planned to, but now it seems they've decided against it, what with Shaun of the Dead being such a big hit. Spaced is definitely worth a watch as well :)

Only ever saw a few episodes of Black Books, but loved it. All 3 series are being released on one DVD/set in June (I think) so am going to hang on and order that as opposed to getting each series separately :)
As for Spaced I've never even heard of it *goes off on a Google search*

IMO, can't believe you've never heard of Spaced. I have a DVD boxset of all 3 series of Black Books which I must have had for about a year at least.
Checking Amazon it was released in 2004. Why it appears to be being re-released in July 2006 I have no idea.

Spaced is great IMO :) they have a great website and forum (actually, that was the first forum I belonged to). It's hard to explain, but the basic premise of the show is that Tim and Daisy both have to move, for separate reasons, meet in a cafe whilst looking for new lodgings, find a perfect one, but it's for 'professional couples only'. So, like Green Card, they pretend they're a couple for the flat. The rest of the two series is about them, their friends and different events, like the stealing of their dog, getting back a portfolio with an insulting image, going clubbing, going to an 'interesting' bit of contemporary theatre and playing Robot Wars in an underground club.
It's mad, but I love it.

Manny is Bill Bailey, he's in QI sometimes I think, and Nevermind the Buzzcocks :) very funny man. Part Troll is hilarious (stand up), saw it live in Cheltenham, fantastic.

I love Bill Bailey! He is such a legend.
kittyofdoom - July 22, 2006 12:56 PM (GMT)
Oh, and whilst we're on the subject of Bill Bailey, he's also in Spaced :) He's Tim's boss at Fantasy Bizarre (comic shop); he's called Bilbo Bagshot :D hehe.

I wish he was in Spaced more. I love the guy they get that looks just like him who works in the other comic book store.
kittyofdoom - July 23, 2006 08:47 AM (GMT)
Yeah, that guy's in a load of stuff too. I liked in Shaun of the Dead how they got all those great people to appear in the same film :) a lot of the comedians around now are like a present day comic strip, it's brill.

Thats my favourite bit of the film. When I saw it in the cinema I shouted THATS REECE SHEARSMITH! I got shushed by the entire cinema, but what a fab scene.
