Revolutionary Girl Utena is about a girl named Utena, a girl named Anthy, a mystery, and the strange duels that take place.

Utena, and the rest of the duelists, go to a school. The emblem of the school is a rose.
When Utena was young, her parents died. She met a 'prince' however, who told her to stay strong always, and gave her a ring. She belived the ring was an engagement ring, because she felt that it was love.
Upon meeting said prince, she was so deeply moved, she decided to become a prince...herself!
Everyday, instead of the normal uniform, she wears a boy's uniform, which makes her stand out. (In the manga, her uniform is pink/rose. In the anime, it's blue.)

Soon after joining the school, she sees someone get slapped. This is Anthy, the Rose Bride. She is 'engaged' to the champion duelist, and at that time, it's someone. (I can't remeber his name. XD)

Utena, wanting to be a prince and save someone, challenges them to a duel.
Her ring enables her.

Well, she wins the duel, but this starts many events.

Let's just, there's alot more to Utena, and more important Anthy, than meets the eye.


So yeah. A good read, a good watch! ^-^ And if you like sword fighting, drama...watch it. xD

The art/style is gorgeous and the story behind it *really* strong and different. You love metaphor and all that symbolism stuff? Love a dark twist in the fairy tale? Love gorgeous artwork and designs? Love a series where crack is not only mandatory, but actively *encouraged*? See Utena right now! *pimp pimp pimp*

Wheeee. I rewatched the first arc the other day (or more like I had it on DVD in the background XD) and I just flippin' <3 this series. Then Pep showed this lovely movieville Utena MV and got me thinking about my other favorite Utena MVs.

Utena movie MV--if this is your first glimpse of Utena, it's a mighty fine one.

Going Under. Huge spoilers in this one, but it's an award-winning Anthy/Utena/Dios type of MV. Really poignant.

Is this Real? Utena movie MV. This was actually one of my first looks at Utena. I got a plot bunny to use this song for a DDS:CW MV afterwards. (Though it kinda' fell apart after the first few sentences. *shakes head*) Anyway, very surreal. A good look at general Utena weirdness/metaphor.

DUELS DUELS DUELS. This is my favorite out there concerning duelists and all.

Fear. JurixRuka. I have a real liking for them and their tragedy. XD Plus, Lethe always wakes me up from my naps with this AMV, just for the little jungleman noise at the beginning.

Missing. Again, more spoilers in this one, but for one of the subplots. A really good look into the tortured Juri/Shiori realm.

Duelist MV--I really like the Touga one at the end. He is *gorgeous* in the Utena movie. :o~~~~~~

Black Rose Duelists MV. DUDE. Five stars. *Lots* of spoilers, but it's put together really well and so worth a look.

HOTTIES. Never mind that the song choice is right on-target. XDDDD Saionji, Touga... mmmhmm.

Juri's milkshake. Because Juri rocks hard.

Hey Miki! Oh, Miki. Miki, Miki, Miki. He's so fine. :o~~~~

Utena Sims smustle dancing to the main duel song. OMG, I sat and watched this thing the whole way through. XD

Tralala Akio is smex. That is all.

Utena Mind Machine I think it's a pretty well done one...XDD Eh, that's just me. That person has alot of pretty good Utena AMVs too. Along with some Naruto one. Ha ha. XD

Random fact: the director of the Utena anime was the same guy that did Sailor Moon. XDD

For people interested, here's Utena episode 1: part a, part b, part c. The first episode has a very "typical cute shoujo" feel to it, but don't let that deceive you. Keep going. *nodnod*

It's like... the series, at first, is pretty easy to follow. Sure, you're thrown curve balls here and there, but nothing really out there. Then you hit the Black Rose arc--and the dueling arena gets all sorts of weird hijinks going on and the characters really reflect that. Then the Akio arc happens and--brain go splodey from symbolism/imagery overload. XD

Touga is so cute. I love his character development. I mean, at some points I wanted to salmonsmack him really bad, but it all evens out, IMO.

Didn't see that MV (Mind Machine). It's real good. :3

I found some other MVs I've seen/liked... This Castles in the Sky MV was the thing that lured Lethe and me to go find the movie (which was the only Utenastuff on youtube at the time, other than the first two episodes). The movie's artwork never fails to blow me away. (Even if the story could've been better... omg, what did they *do* to Saionji and Akio? XD)

Butterfly MV--I dunno why, I just like it. XD

Jumper MV. A good song and good look into movie Utena and Anthy's psyches (huge spoilers therein). (Heh heh, Lethe and I are working on an Aviv/Zakai MV to this song, too. XD)

Torn MV. More of the show's main angst angle--Utena and her prince. It doesn't help that, again, Lethe and I were actually planning to make a Zakai-related MV to this song. XD LOTS of spoilers for this one, though. I'd recommend seeing this one *after* you've seen the finale. This "Hell and Back" MV, too--it's really good but spoils all three series arcs and all 39 episodes. But like I said, *really* good.
