No doubt about it all of you people need more mecha in your anime diets, and if you disagree with me your wrong. And those who dont like mecha are likely to have no soul so dont listen to them. Though some mecha shows are inifinitely better than others so chances are your gonna need me to point out some good ones for you.
Aso if you have anything against old anime go out in play in traffic, your kind ruin stuff.
Space Runaway IdeonHundreds of years in the future, mankind has colonized many planets. On one of these planets, Solo, a group of archeologists and soldiers find the legendary robot Ideon and a powerful spaceship. Attacked by the humanoid aliens known as the Buff Clan, the humans, including hero Cosmo Yuki, flee from planet to planet under alien pursuit while trying to solve the mystery of the Ideon and the energy source behind it.
I like to call Ideon "Evangelions big pissed off grandpa" for various reasons. Now im not gonna lie this series is for the faint of heart or the faint of butt, and isnt good if you dont like death. But overall its a great show with a powerful message behind it.
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann Gurren-Lagann is set in a dismal future where humanity has been driven underground by a race of beastmen who patrol the surface in face-themed robots called Gunmen. A young boy named Simon with an affinity for drilling discovers a mysterious mecha and is swept in to an adventure across the surface to defeat the beastmen by his older brother-like friend, the boisterous Kamina.
Just go watch the show, and if you dont like it then its likely you have no sense of taste or a massive stick up your ass and your life has no meaning. This series is pure awesomeness plain and simple and is one of those great creations rarely seen these days. It throws away logic and kicks reason to the curb much like we do here.
Aura Battler DunbineWhat sets Dunbine apart is that opposed to taking place in the future, or being set out in space, the show takes place on the medieval world of Byston Well. As a result the storyline and mecha ended up being among the most original of all of Tomino's work from the decade. It stars Shou Zama, a young man from Japan who one night suddenly finds himself transported to Byston Well, where he is recruited as a pilot for the Aura Battler Dunbine.
This series is truely an ingenius work of fiction as it combines a medival setting with mecha action, two things rarely seen together. To add to it's uniqueness is the fact that mecha resemble large insects and look very badass because of it.
Super Dimension Fortress MacrossMacross 7Macross FrontierBy most standards, Macross is considered to be a mecha franchise second only to Gundam. Much like the original Gundam series, Macross is a war drama. Aside from war and mecha battles, at its heart is the story of normal people caught up in great events. It has had various incarnations over the last two decades, though not as many as Gundam. Macross was made in the tradition of the 'real robot' genre that Gundam created, and it is probably best known for setting off the transforming mecha craze in the early 80's that many series used afterwards.
These are just a few of many great things to come from the Macross universe. This show is a classic that cannot be missed and if you dont like it go ahead and jump off of a bridge, you lack any hint of taste. The fact that it started way back when and is still going speaks volumes about how great these shows are.
Mobile Suit GundamMobile Suit: Zeta GundamMobile Suit ZZ GundamMobile Suit Victory GundamGundam is the definitive Japanese mecha series. Many people consider it the "Star Trek of Japan" because of several striking similarities. The first series in each franchice suffered poor ratings in their initial runs, only to enjoy massive success in reruns. Both were resurrected as feature films, and both enjoyed continued success with many spinoff series. In the case of Gundam, this success has created 11 TV series, as well as various side stories and movies.
Gundam is better than anything you've watched, and if you disagree then your wrong. These shows revolutionized mecha shows and anime in general. Also it could hold a special place in your hearts as it's easy to find parallels between your own characters and characters from various Gundam series. The series listed above are from the original timeline which also has a few OVA series and a couple of movies and there are some AU Gundam series that are worth a look and those ones are:
Turn A Gundam Mobile Fighter G GundamGundam XGundam 00(This one is coming to the Sci-Fi channel in November)
Shinkon Gattai GodannarIt doesnt take a genius to figure out what this anime's target audience is and despite what some of you may be thinking after watching that opening it has a pretty good plot. It definatly has a good oldsuper robot feel to it with plenty of hot blooded battles and some nice visuals
I got more to list but im feeling lazy. Also for those of you offended by my way of speaking dont get too emo, for the most part its just me being funny besides offending people is fun. So go watch some robots now!!!!!!!!!!!!
