Title: Dragon Ball Z Kai?

It's been years since I've watched DBZ and I've just recently fallen back into the fandom. I watched a couple episodes of Kai on TV a few weeks ago, but I couldn't sit through all the commercials for light-up shoes and this generations version of nano-pets, so I ordered the first season on Netflix.
And I remember why I liked the show so much. I just don't remember the cursing. Did they alter the dialogue in Kai, make it less 'kid-friendly', or did I just forget it from the old funi dubs? I guess I didn't actually think much would be different apart from the opening and closing songs, but is it really an *altered* show? Perhaps closer to the original somehow?

The swearing is probably part of staying closer to the original Japanese. As I understand it, Kai itself is a major re-edit to make the anime closer to the manga, cutting out most, if not all, of the filler material. Which should be interesting! ^_^

Plus, they(Nicktoons) having started replaying the same episodes that we've already seen. Meaning a lot of the episodes have been cut.

Honestly, I hate Dragon Ball Z Kai. The reasons? FUNimation did not include anything after the Cell Games! (You know... The Majin Buu saga?) They got rid of pretty much all of the filler, and in many cases, filler is good! Like the Saiyaman saga. :saiyaman: I'm sure that everyone that watched DBZ was at least slightly entertained with that saga. Another reason is because the voices of Gohan and Bulma sound terrible! :headdesk: If you watch enough episodes you'd know what I mean.

That Kai only goes up until the Cell Saga isn't anything to do with Funimation. Kai was originally only going up and through the Cell Saga. (Which, apparently was the original ending for the series, so it has been said).
Recently, however, it was announced that the Majin Buu saga will be added to Kai, however, this saga apparently isn't going to be shown on tv in Japan. I would guess that, at the very least, it will more than likely be on TV in the U.S.. (Frankly, I'd be surprised if this wasn't the case).
Even though Kai is a "manga's cut", apparently some filler did find its way into this version. However, its not enough to make a significant impact. For example, some fights might have a little extra padding, but that is something that would be true for pretty much any manga-to-anime adaptation, as what works on paper sometimes has to be "reworked" for visual media.
I can't stand watching Kai because of the voice changes (talking about the English voices. I remember one of the original Japanese voice cast members passed away a couple years back, I just don't remember who it was they voiced) - I absolutely can't stand Gohan's replacement voice; Bulma's voice, while isn't horrible per se, it just doesn't quite "cut it". I say the same (especially) for Frieza's voice as well. I actually think some of his persona is taken away with the newer voice.
Outside of that, while some of it was passable, as I wasn't a fan of most of DBZ's filler, especially the "mini saga" fillers (The Garlic Jr saga and the flight to Namek crap is the absolute worse to sit through).

Wow, I had no idea that the Buu saga was going to be added. :superhyper: Oh, and about the Japanese voice actor that died: I forgot the man's name, but he was indeed Mr. Satan's voice actor. So it seems therewill be a new voice actor for Satan in DBZ:Battle of Gods.
