Title: What We Know So Far...
Description: Info and speculation about CC
Anastar - October 30, 2004 03:02 PM (GMT)
We know very little so far about Crisis Core. So far, this is the only information we have:
Crisis Core Details
Here's a few brief details about the forth title in the Compilation of FFVII, Crisis Core, from Square's official site.
Title: CRISIS CORE - FINAL FANTASY VII (provisional name)
Platform: PSP
Genre: Action RPG
Release date: Planned early 2006
Price: Undecided
-- Main Staff
Producer: Yoshinori Kitase
Director: Hajime Tahata
Character Design: Tetsuya Nomura
We have the game about the Turks in Before Crisis, the one about Vincent in Dirge of Cerberes, and AC. I've heard some people speculating that this one would involve Aerith. So far, little has been done about the Ancients and what happened with Jenova. I wonder if Crisis Core may deal with that aspect of FFVII, which would bring in Ifalna and Aerith?
Sefie - October 30, 2004 06:39 PM (GMT)
Hmmmmmm, sounds very plausible to me! But how would they pull that off? Gast and Iflana being the main characters?
BTW, WHAT THE CRAP DOES PSP *STAND* FOR!? I've been asking it all over and NOBODY'S answered me!!

They could do it if it happens before FFVII, like Before Crisis.

PSP stands for
Play
Station
Portable. It's a new platform by Sony that will go on sale in Japan on Dec. 12 for about $185. The company has not yet set a definite U.S. date or price for the PSP, although Sony has said the PSP will arrive in the United States at the end of March. The PSP will have an advanced display, a new optical media format for use with movies and music, and a processor only slightly less powerful than the one that powers the PlayStation 2.
More about the PSP can be found here:

Sefie - November 1, 2004 02:10 AM (GMT)
Thanks Aly! Heeey, the end of March? that's my birthday! What perfect timing! SE really IS all knowing! This game's getting more and more interesting the more I hear about it...
Kaldea - November 3, 2004 07:13 AM (GMT)
I really do hope it has something to do with the ancients. But who knows with Square. :P
And my birthday is the beginning of March!
Clorith - November 7, 2004 05:57 AM (GMT)
Wee, my first post!! ^_^
Everything is so pink, me likes. :P
Anyway, I hope so too! I've always been really interested in what happened 2000 years ago, hopefully this will answer that! When they announced Compilation of FFVII, they said something about revealling secrets for the past. Well it's either this or the two years before AC! The only thing that I'm sure it's not about is the post-AC, pre-DC timeframe.
Carmencita - November 9, 2004 01:30 PM (GMT)
Maybe it has something to do with the "Crisis from the sky" or something.
Its release date is... when again? Early 2006? Oh my. I hope I'm still alive at that year... XD
CrapShackeR - November 29, 2004 09:12 PM (GMT)
I am sooo lost. Another game? <_< I'm still getting used to BC, DC, AC and whatnot. What I still don't understand is the 'VII' part of the name if there's a picture of Rikku as another preview.

It's just one of those PSP (PlayStation Portable) games that they just keep developing. I am not all too excited about them, I like to play my games on a bigger screen.

Er, I think she was joking, right? Right?!
I'm busy enough as it is, trying to get a GBA to play CoM. If I ever get a PSP, it'll be like five years from now when they cost around $20 ... <_<

Holy_Aeris - January 7, 2006 06:23 PM (GMT)
FINALLY!! A FF game for ma PSP, its so lonley without any good games to play it on!
MistaCloudStrife - January 13, 2006 08:59 PM (GMT)
Lets think.
Timeline based on FFVII....
Before Crisis
FFVII
Dirge of Cerberus
Advent Children
I highly doubt it would be after FFVII since AC is only 2 years after and DoC is in between those two years, having anoter game take place in those two years would be overkill imo.
My guess is that it takes place between BC and FFVII...
And don't you think it's akward how they always show "Last Order" screens whenever there's something about Crisis Core?
Maybe a game based on the secret cinema from FFVII... Explain a bit more about Zack and Cloud's relationship and Zack and Aeris' relationship.
Maybe show a bit of what happened in the Wutai war.
Anyway. I can't wait for this game. I wanna get RPGs for the PSP.>_< Valkyrie Profile too... Can't wait.... T_T
Lynn - January 13, 2006 09:08 PM (GMT)
As far as I know, DC takes place one year after AC. ^_^
CC is likely to take place between BC and FFVII, if only because Zack is touted as the main character of the game. I honestly have no idea how they intend to fill the gaps with him, especially while he's lugging around a half-incapacitated Cloud, but SE has been doing a fair bit of retcon so far.
I really hope they do it like in the beginning of the Wild ARMs games, where you have to play individual character scenarios before everyone finally meets up. I kinda want this game to also be similar to the Suikogaidens in that it's more text-based than battle-based. It'd be like playing in an interactive story, something I don't think SE's done before.
But I'm not holding my breath. >_<
Thus, the only other option is Clorith's. Wherein Cloud and Aerith are sitting in a flowerbed and she's retelling the story. :P
Digital Holocaust - February 6, 2006 07:15 PM (GMT)
I can say that I'm rather miffed off with what the story is going to be about in Crisis Core... Instead of writing a plot about the Ancients and Jenova, we're once again replaying parts of the Nibelhiem incident. Not only have we played that part through during Cloud's flashback in FFVII, we've also played it during the search for Sephiroth at the North Crater scenario and also during the Lifestream event. We've also got to see turns of events involving Nibelhiem when we explore Vincent's memories in FFVII too. If THAT wasn't enough, you get to visit it again through the Turk's perspective in BC and we also get to hear more about it during DoC... If that still wasn't enough Nibelhiem for you, we get to see another retelling of it through a 30 minute anime called Last Order.
Now they want to make ANOTHER game based around the Nibelhiem events in Crisis Core... If you ask me this is long past the notion of ridiculous and Squeenix seem to be stuck in the mindframe that telling the Nibelhiem events though as many character's perspectives as possible is going to make me want to stay interested in this compilation.
No thanks.. all this Nibelhiem crap was elaborated enough apon during the original game itself. I don't think I need to accept more milkage from it when they could've made a really interesting story about the Cetra and Jenova instead.
Hell, they could've done a really interesting spin-off story about the Wutai War and how Shin-ra gained their power. Even a story about Nanaki's ancestors and the GI tribe, but noooooooooo.... let's have yet another retelling of the Nibelhiem event.
Kuraudo Sutoraifu - February 10, 2006 09:11 PM (GMT)
It looks like the game will mainly focus around Zack, and cloud, (whilst he is still a ShinRa MP)
Also looks like its gunna take place around the events in Nibelheim like Last Order.
Looking for a december 2006 release date.
Yeh, it is kinda sad that there producing games just to work off the existing fanbase.

I can understand you completly, somehow I feel the same way as you :(
Take a look at the rivalry between Cloud and Sephiroth, their fight repeats again and again, they fight in FFVII, they fight in KH1 and KH2, they fight again in EHRGEIZ, and AC and many other games I dont want to count...
Now everytime when I hear or see them fight against each other, I always think: "Oh NO! Again?" hell..... <_<
Of course, I find the Nibelheim incident very interesting and I like the story, but as you already counted in your post, I got tired too of this. I just want to see the complet whole incident in Nibelheim, as a Anime or maybe better as a AC-like movie, through the eyes of a all-knowing person :)

Well it COULD be pretty interesting and answer some interesting questions, and deepen FFVII's story and characters a bit.
Show Cloud and Zacks relationship a bit more.
Maybe deepen Cloud's mom's character.
Show more information about Cloud, Tifa, Zack, and Sephiroth. Maybe Hojo.
Maybe introduce some new characters for fun.
Maybe even show how Cloud got together and took Zack's memories and how he was picked up by Avalanche.
I think it'll be a game worth playing.

This is an action RPG for the PSP that takes place between the original game. This game is known as a midquel. Since it takes place during the storyline of the game, but more is shown. Hm...should be interesting. The PSP needs more RPGs.

Hm, I'm terribly lost in this CC shizmo. @_@
But, concerning Tifa's appearance...
I know IMDB.com isn't a solid reliable source, but it said that Ayumi Ito (Japanese) and Rachel Leigh Cook (English), the VA's of Tifa, are also part of the cast. So, I'm guessing that Tifa has to be some important element inside the Nibelheim incident?? ^^; (Well, she IS a resident there, and Cloud's "childhood friend") Plus, I remember in the English AC DVD, I was viewing all the trailers. I'm not sure if it was Crisis Core (I didn't pay attention because I was blanked out for some reason ) or not, so I don't know if the following info will matter... but at the beginning of a trailer you can hear a girl somewhat say something along the lines of "...and under that [cloudy?] sky, we made a promise blah blah..." I know it was something about a sky and a promise. Not sure if it was supposed to be day or night, but it was a girl's voice. Something tells me it may be Tifa, but then again, not so. But it does flow... I mean, it's about Nibelheim, is it not???
...Though I also AM quite disappointed that it's about the same-o Nibelheim again. -_- Siiigh.

As a pretty big fan of hers, I believe that's Maaya Sakamoto's voice we hear speaking of "a promise". I'm pretty sure Aerith was referring to Zack there. As for the Nibelheim event, I suppose it's something that was also quite important to Zack's story...therefore, I wouldn't be suprised if SE decides to, once again, include it. If it's touched on again, I'm pretty sure we'll be seeing Tifa in it.
I do agree that the whole incident is getting rather old though, and as important as it is, there's a part of me that doubts it'll actually be the center/entire focus of CC. Sadly, I'm not a Zack fan...but I'm still really curious about it. Afterall, SE did promise CC would reveal answers... ^^

Oh, tanku mucho for clarifying, HD. :huggle: I KNEW it! (It was prolly a cloudy sky, hm.) That girl's voice sounded very heavenly. Plus she's more associated with Zack than Tifa, so clearly she's appearing. And something in my weird vibes really tell me that Tifa will be in as well, especially basing the info on
Nibelheim. -_- I was really interested in hearing more about
other characters' backgrounds rather than the blast-to-Cloud's-past stuff again. >.<

Schala - July 17, 2006 07:53 AM (GMT)
Character profiles! Makes me hopeful that this game will be coming out soon. I'm hoping to see more Zack and less rehashed fights between Cloud and Sephiroth. I don't even want to see another picture of Nibelheim burning where a certain someone might be given the chance to make her appearance. Still, I'm really excited to see a pre-Nibelheim Sephiroth. I really don't believe that he was always evil, unlike what KH and AC seem to promote.
Azerty - July 18, 2006 10:46 PM (GMT)
I wonder how this game will play. That's my biggest concern. Even though Square Enix has made some action RPGs (Threads of Fate, Brave Fencer Mushashi, etc), it's not their strong points. That worries me.
Pyra Kurai Akaidra - August 5, 2006 11:50 PM (GMT)
Character bios! I like the artwork they used for Cloud and Sephiroth, pretty. And Zack look cool with shorter hair, but still spiky.
I also wonder about gameplay, too. Is it real-time action like KH? Maybe each buttons was assign to different things like one for items, attack and other ones for Materia.
Pre-Nibelheim Sephiroth...I'd like to see that. We all want to know the Sephiroth Zack befriend before the Nibelheim incident (though that means an increase in fanbase).
I also want to see some interaction between Zack and Tifa, being a fan I am. This should help clear up Last Order, right?
Materia Thief - August 6, 2006 06:49 PM (GMT)
I have to agree with the evaluation of the Nibelheim event. I found it fascinating, no doubt about that, and I think it's a vital part of FFVII history, but please, no more re-makes of it.
I'm a bit of a Zack fan--he's too minor of a figure for me to really latch onto his personality and enjoy him, but I think he's interesting so I wasn't too disappointed when it was announced that it was a Zack game and not a Cetra/Jenova game [which would've made so much more sense--she is the "core" of the "crisis"]. I guess the "Nibelheim Event" may be seen more as the "Core" of the "Crisis" considering what happened to Sephiroth, but I'm still disappointed, if only slightly.
Seeing that Aerith is confirmed makes me happy, although without a doubt, Tifa's probably going to make an appearance as well.
However, even with a Zack-centric story, I was hoping to see something besides Nibelheim. As said before, the Wutai War would have been fascinating. Maybe even a young Zack travelling through the ranks of ShinRa and slowly learning of the corruption within and finally rebelling against Sephiroth in Nibelheim as the games' climax? I don't know. @_@;

The line was indeed something akin to "under the clouds", but what REALLY identifies it as Aerith (if one needs more proof than the well-trained ears of a seiyuu fan :P) is that the dialogue states that the promise was made in Midgar. As far as I know, and unless SE decides to go trigger-happy with their canon, Tifa never made any promises in Midgar. So the voice belongs to Aerith. ^_^
As for Tifa's appearance, I'm going to simply expect her to show up. That way, I won't be disappointed if it goes either way. :P
And I love the pics used of Zack and Cloud too in those profiles too! Ah, more Zack official artwork = happy Lynn. I snickered at the word "elitist" in Sephiroth's profile, though. *imagines Sephy telling off SOLDIER n00bs on ShinraSOLDIER.com* :lmao:
