Square Enix's 2007 financial statement indicates that the company is going through a rough patch. How bad are things? Apparently, there has been an internal shakedown going on. According to several company insiders, things are getting heated. Word has it that a fierce meeting was held over a month ago where the Square Enix honcho threatened to start axing employees if they didn't (and we're paraphrasing) "stop making games that only they wanted to play." Wada is supposedly worried that the company's games have become more and more insular, alienating itself from the mainstream. Granted, this is purely a rumor, but there does seem to be a huge dichotomy within the company's products. You've got very, very casual Japan-only DS titles on one hand, then largely an endless stream of Final Fantasy spin-offs and remakes. Not exactly a balanced portfolio! Sure, Dragon Quest IX and Final Fantasy XIII are going to be huge, but neither game has a firm release date. Putting all your eggs in one basket, no? That, or painting oneself in a corner.

:o Oh don't tell me SE is gonna postponed FFXIII's release date into 2009 or 2010.. Or more..

Hahaha, even the head honcho himself was getting annoyed at some of the gaming projects.

*at the pic* :lmao:

HOMAI. Let's hope this isn't just a rumor.

I'm wondering which FFVII character is going to be the next to have his/her own game. JARLY, I hope it's Marlene. *stabs the FFVII Compilation to death*

Seriously, I don't mind the FF remakes as much.

Kuraudo - May 28, 2008 08:07 PM (GMT)
adsasdfsfasafasdfdsf The Compilation needs to die, srsly. I don't want any remakes of FFVII, either. DO YOU HEAR ME, SQUARE?

Kaldea - May 28, 2008 09:44 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't mind the Compilation at all if they kept the games to one or two systems instead of all these cell phone games they're getting into. That and if they actually took the time they usually spend on an average FF game on spin off games. I'd have no problem with quality games that continue a story I want more of.

And in my opinion, Square died the day they merged with Enix.

I agree wholeheartedly. If the FF7 Compilation was just AC and DoC, I'd be happy but alas they like milking the cash cow. Plus, not only are they messing around with FF7, they want to open FF4 (a perfectly good completed game) to a new sequel. Is anyone wondering WTF?

For me, the merger is a 50/50 thing. Aside from current quality on some games, the merger help bring Enix games to Australia, so...

First things first.

*murders The After with stabbing and time travel*

Alright, rage out of system, maybe I can see things more objectively.

*MURDERS IT AGAIN*

Nope, not happening.

What I think SE's problem is, is that they think too little of the customer. They think people will buy just because it's tied to something else. If it's on a obscure system or cell phone, or just plain sucks, they just assume people will snap it up anyway, because, hey, it's kinda FFish. And, of course, there's quite a bit of those mindless fanpeople who are like that, but *shockingly* that's not enough market to support a big corporation like SE. They need to draw new market, by producing accessible quality. Sorry, two big name games aren't enough, especially after the flop that was FFXII.
It's scary, but the closest thing they have to what they need is CC. Not because of its ties into FFVII, but because it's actually a good game which people from all over can buy and play. That's saying something, seeing as the only other compilation release I thought had any quality was AC. Now what they need to do is cut their ties to the "glory days" of FF, and start churning out something new. Of course, the odds of that are about the same as the odds of Chrono 3 ever coming out, which is to say zero. :shoot:

I kind of agree with what it is in this rumour. With the VII compilation, sequels and remakes I would say right now SE is living in the past and hopes to get good money because they know fans will pay and play these games. We haven't' had many new and original games released by SE in a while. This is particular thing is starting to happen to Kingdom Hearts which has really disappointed me since Noruma said that KH was "Sora's Story/Game" and now we're getting all of their side games and prequels with different characters.

I do enjoy and am looking forward to some of these games but SE really needs to get their act together and listen to what the public wants.

Was XII a flop? I didn't know that

Andina - May 30, 2008 02:07 AM (GMT)
Final Fantasy XII wasn't a flop, it sold very well actually. It did split people in two, like so many other FF games, but that is nothing new. I personally loved that game, and still do, it was tad different but that is not a bad thing. :)

Square is losing that "Quality over quantity!" status they had for so many years. They are spewing out too much on too many fronts. The words Final Fantasy no longer create the same kind of joyful glee among many gamers like they used to all those years ago. Now no one is sure what FF we're talking when something is on the news and on what platform it is on and if they even need a cell phone to play or even something wackier.

This post has so much truth in it!

srsly I just want a FF7 remake for the ps3 or 360 and thats it!
Advent children was a perfect way to end FF7 but now they are milking it like a cow.

All the sequels, compilations and spinoffs are just poor and disapointing.
a perfect example its ffx-2, at the begining I tought it was going to be awesome but the only cool thing was nomuras designs.

Ruaaargghhh!!! *furious raptor shriek* :guns:

also wtf cell phone games? and wierd console games?
Why did they had to do the Crisis core for the PSP I ask you? they could had done it for the 360 or other console and it would had sold alot better.
I mean people bought the console just for the sake of playing the game! it saved sony's console.

I wish that square would had been able to launch ff7 to the 64 rather than to the ps.

MistaCloudStrife - June 13, 2008 02:03 PM (GMT)
Haha! They dropped because we(western consumers) aren't buying enough of their games. Maybe they'll finally learn that there's more to it than just catering to Japanese consumers.

Me neither. I just thought KH2 took the spotlight out from FFXII. I enjoyed FFXII very much~

And as for remakes and sequels...Two words: please. stop. It was okay when they made remakes of the way oooold games like FFI-II, III and IV, but when they do gazillion remakes of FFI-II, it began to get boring. But then again, gamers with different set of platforms could enjoy them aswell, so...I won't complain - much.

I honestly think there's no need for a sequel to FFIV. It's pretty much complete on its own, even though I'm quite curious.

I don't know much about FFXIII, but I don't think it's going to be that good...I've lost my faith in Square Enix some time ago, KH sequels don't help. Nor Nomura.

Marlene - July 21, 2008 05:01 AM (GMT)

Finally what I was hoping to happen.:P

But seriously, to me unless they remake 7 or o another special thing to me, then they should just start with a new game.

Aerith Gainsborough - July 22, 2008 12:36 AM (GMT)
In my opinion the only good thing to come out of the Compilation so far was Crisis Core, period.

Dirge of Cerberus was an absolute mess. Even Advent Children was sub-par. Sure, it's great eye candy--but that's all it is. Plot was weak, character development was a wreck, and...ah, I should stop now, hm?

 I love AC.
