Title: Would You Be Able To Forgive Cloud?
Description: If you were Aerith?
illwaitforever1 - April 2, 2008 02:50 PM (GMT)
Forgive me for putting you in this position, males of the forum. But really, would you be able to forgive Cloud?
For me, maybe. It would take time, because I would be pretty pissed that Cloud just stood there. And Cloud did shake Sephiroth off when he was controlling him. But over time, I would be able to forgive him, since I know he feels guilt and everything.
But what about you, would you forgive him?
If there is a thread like this, please delete. :gift:

Hard question to answer considering I'm a guy but who the hell wouldn't forgive Cloud?
Yukari - April 2, 2008 03:50 PM (GMT)
Yes, because Aerith was completely aware of the dangers she was heading into and what could happen to her. She told Cloud to look after himself, first and foremost, so it wasn't as though she asked him to save her and he failed. It wasn't Cloud's fault, he was a victim of Sephiroth and Jenova, so any blame towards Cloud for what happened to her would be misplaced.

Wow i was going to post something like that!
Well i guess i would forgive him since it wasn't exactly his fault,Aerith knew this would cost her life(i guess  )plus his emotional state was unbearable:(
Yet i must say that it kinda annoys me a bit that Cloud just stood there and watched her die -_- How about you?
Inuyatta - April 2, 2008 05:16 PM (GMT)
Actually, I thought it was proven that Aerith didn't know she was going to die. I forget where though. Regardless, I would never blame Cloud, esp. if nobody knew I was going to die.

I'd forgive him. He wasn't really himself at that time, so what could he do besides just stand there? Sephiroth was trying to take hold of him and make him do it, but when Cloud shook him off, Sephiroth came down and did it himself.
Is it just me or was it like Sephy was just waiting because he knew that Cloud wouldn't be able to kill someone like Aerith? Maybe a hint? Eh?Eh?
sessystalker - April 2, 2008 07:02 PM (GMT)
Cloud didn't do anything wrong, so I'd be with Aerith in saying that there is nothing to forgive. Nobody knew what was going to happen, nobody saw Sephiroth descending, so how was Cloud supposed to know to jump in the way and protect her from an incoming sword?
I've always thought Sephiroth waited to kill Aerith for two reasons: 1. To try getting Cloud to kill her himself, and 2. If that didn't work, have her killed right in front of him.

I thought Maiden said she felt her death approaching. Or something. Either way I think she knew the risk when she ran off by herself.
illwaitforever1 - April 2, 2008 07:24 PM (GMT)
Okay, I feel bad now.
I'm sorry Cloud, I do love you!
AerithGainsborough - April 2, 2008 07:26 PM (GMT)
No I couldn't forgive Cloud, because I could never blame him ^^ Just like Aerith never blamed him.
I think Aerith would freak out if someone said Cloud let her die IMO though .
Kaldea - April 2, 2008 09:52 PM (GMT)
Umm... Cloud didn't do anything that would warrant forgiveness so I don't see the point. :U

Agreed. Aerith knew the risks involved when she headed off by herself. Cloud didn't do anything wrong. :cactuar:

Even if Cloud's job is to be a bodyguard Aerith, she does not depend on Cloud that he would pop out every moment now and then...besides, it was her own decision. Cloud was being controlled and he's not really himself at the moment...so there's no fault or sin... I think there's nothing to forgive at all. :/ *he just took the blame lol*
Tifa Lockheart - April 3, 2008 08:37 AM (GMT)
It's like Cloud blamed himself for everything so he's the one who needs to forgive himself, not Aerith.
Unless he starts acting like, "Boo, I want to be forgiven by you or I'll kill myself!!!"... maybe that's when I'll say, "Okay, okay! I forgive you!" for the sake of preventing his death. :P
Pyra Kurai Akaidra - April 3, 2008 09:38 AM (GMT)
Why would I forgive Cloud? There's nothing to blame him for; Aerith didn't ask him to save her from imminent danger, just wait for her to come back. Him going after her, watching her pray, then after resisting Sephiroth's control, watched her unforgettable and unexpected death...
Her death was not his fault, so I wouldn't blame him. But I would get annoyed if he's threatening his health because of it...

I agree with what everyone said that there is nothing to forgive... i think Aeris reaLLy knew what was the consquences of Leaving by herseLf... and Aeris did say that She never bLamed CLoud, CLoud came for her and that was aLL that mattered...
At Least, CLoud went after her and he was abLe to 'shake Sephiroth off' in making him kiLL her...
HonestLy, i was never abLe to pLay the game, but i found out how the story went on a website... so my knowLedge of what had happened is Limited... ehehe... :peace:

Curse you all for forgiving him!
Okay, what about if you we're in Aerith's shoes, but have your own personality. Would you then?
Refer to first post for my (apparently) selfish opinon

What's with the curse?? :o
ReaLLy, i think there's nothing to forgive... If i were Aeris, I'd know that someone wiLL be after me, i'm an 'Ancient' (or whatever race she was), the Last Ancient, aren't i? Shinra, the Turks... they were after Aeris, weren't they?? So was Sephiroth... Aeris wanted to save the worLd that Sephiroth wanted to destroy... so, if i were her, i'd think or suspect that he wiLL do something to stop me... Aeris even went ahead (which i think was to prevent others from getting hurt because of her??), aLone... Aeris would've been ready if Sephiroth wouLd try something... and he did... he tried and kiLLed Aeris, but was too Late since she had already casted HoLy...
anyways, CLoud just bLamed himseLf, but Aeris didn't... isn't that enough to say that there's reaLly nothing to forgive??
aw god... this is soooo Long... hey, no offense...
ahaha...

Yes? Because, again, there is nothing to forgive Cloud for, he did nothing wrong.
sessystalker - April 4, 2008 01:04 AM (GMT)
My own personality? I definately don't go around blaming people for things that aren't their fault, or for things they didn't do. Here I am, having taken the risk of my own life, praying for the life of the Planet...then I see the man I have great affection for, most likely love, standing in front of me...I would be overfilled with joy that he came for me at all! No way would I believe he let me die. If I had to feel blame for anybody, I'd feel bad at myself for the risk I took, having shortened my life significantly and losing precious time that could have been spent with Cloud (but would have still been short-lived, cuz then Meteor would have came crashing down >_>).

Cloud is too adorable to hold a grudge against with.
And I still won't forgive him because I couldn't accuse him of anything in the first place. I don't go around blaming people for the bad things happening to me especially if I believe that they really have nothing to do with them. If I do that, it's immature, senseless, and cowardly.
Angelwing Aeris - April 4, 2008 09:14 PM (GMT)
Of course I'd forgive Cloud. His heart was broken when she died, Maiden confirms this. Besides its not like Cloud could do anything, he was under mind control. Besides Cloud gravely payed for his supposed "sin". After all, he's almost done nothing but mourn her for 2 years and live in her church to remember her. Tifa can't even get him to forgive himself. Cloud's problem is that he can't face her since he felt he was supposed to save her. Not that Aerith wouldn't forgive him, she didn't even blame him. His misery clearly pulled at her heartstrings too. Cloud's pain is a symbol of how devoted his is to his love. If that's not devotion, I don't know what is.

Alright, what if you were yourself, in Aerith's shoes, but you didn't have her abilites, nor did you know what was wrong with Cloud.
You just happened to die with Cloud standing there, and you had no why he was doing that? Would you forgive him then?
It's hard to explain.

Do you want us to not forgive Cloud? Cloud stood there in front of Aerith, everything was peaceful and crap, then Sephiroth jumps down out of nowhere, catching everyone by surprise. No one knew that was going to happen. No one knew he was up there waiting for that moment to strike. And by then, it was too late. Aerith was dead as soon as that sword went through her. There was nothing Cloud could have done.
So, for the third time, yes, I'd forgive Cloud. I'd always forgive him, especially when it wasn't his fault to begin with.
I don't see how not having Aerith's abilities or not knowing exactly what was wrong with Cloud would change anything.

if i didn't have her abiLities, why wouLd i go pray for the worLd and cast HoLy?? stiLL, with that aside, i'd forgive CLoud... it's been said over and over again... No one knew that Sephiroth was waiting for the right time to kiLL Aerith... No one couLdv'e predicted what was going to happen... No one's at fauLt...
what if we put things in different a different perspective? if you were CLoud, and you had just 'shook' Sephiroth off of you, resisted the urge to kiLL Aeris, wouLd you have been abLe to stop Sephiroth from descending from above and strike down Aeris, just after she Looked at you, with a smiLe (i guess) when she had finsihed praying??
