Title: Telling Elmyra About Aerith
sessystalker - March 7, 2008 10:17 PM (GMT)
If this has been mentioned before, please delete this and if someone could link me to where it was discussed, I'd very much appreciate it. I went looking through topics but couldn't find anything, but I'm good at overlooking stuff. >_>
Actually, this is just something that popped into my head as I was replaying FFVII. After talking to Bugenhagen in Cosmo Canyon where Cloud stated his "I remember Aerith a lot..." speech, and then leaving to head to the City of the Ancients, I ran around and talked to everyone on the Highwind and everyone had something to say about Aerith. Then Cait Sith says he "went an'told Aerith's mom about her death." My mind went automatically to Case of Tifa where I was sure I read somewhere that, after the events of FFVII, it was Cloud that broke the news to Elmyra. So I went and read it again, and sure enough...
I'm just wondering if it was a mistake or not. Probably was, but I thought it was really interesting.

OMg
I noticed that also <3
And yes they do say that in CoT ,I have like NO idea what happened to SQ-EN there.
Good Point xD

I believe Cait Sith was the one who first broke the news to Elmyra. Cloud and Co. went to visit her in CoT and pick up Marlene, who was still staying with Elmyra in Kalm at the time.
sessystalker - March 8, 2008 12:47 AM (GMT)
Yeah, they went to Kalm to pick up Marlene. Then, afterwards in CoT, it reads:
As delicately as he could, Cloud broke the news to Elmyra about Aerith's fate. They Couldn't be sure how she would take it, but the three of them apologized for not being able to save Aerith.
Then it goes on with Elmyra saying they did all they could, and they began to wonder if they really did do everything they could. The book I have may be off on translations, tho, since I got it with the AC Collector's Edition.
Kuraudo - March 8, 2008 01:26 AM (GMT)
Oh, you're right! I have the AC: Collector's Edition too, funny I didn't remember that part.
Huh. Maybe it's just an unexplained plothole? The game says Cait Sith broke the news of Aerith's death to Elmyra, but CoT says otherwise....
I'm not sure. That sucks. I always thought it was sweet of Reeve to inform Elmyra. D:
sessystalker - March 8, 2008 01:38 AM (GMT)
D: I did, too, I liked the fact Reeve told them. Didn't he hold Marlene "hostage" after having Cait Sith give the Keystone to Tseng at the Gold Saucer in order to have Cloud's party agree with him? I kinda like to think maybe he spent some time with Elmyra and Marlene, y'know, as an observer of people of the city.
It could have been a mistake to have added Cloud and co. as telling Elmyra about Aerith. :/ I can kinda see how Cait Sith's words can get...overlooked.

I thought the word is to refer to MoTP? :shifty:
*is strangely pleased*

I never saw any problems with that part myself - I just thought it meant that whilst Cait/Reeve had already told her, Cloud and the others were filling her in on the details
She may also have needed to hear it again, afterall she knew Cloud, Tifa and Barrett and would have trusted them more than any word from the Shinra (even though Reeve was a nice guy - she wasn't to know that)
sessystalker - March 8, 2008 12:21 PM (GMT)
Maybe. Cait Sith had said Elmyra and Marlene were crying their eyes out about it, but they could have had some disbelief until they heard the truth from someone they trusted. >_> I just don't think "breaking the news" was a good way to word it, as it made it seem like she hadn't heard anything about it. To me, anyways.
