Title: Final Fantasy X
Description: Dream of the Fayth...
Hyper-Ballad - February 18, 2005 07:22 PM (GMT)
Again, a thread for talking about everything to do with FFX (and FFX-2, if you like). If you're a fan, come here and talk... The floor's open for discussion.
Another great game, with great characters and a heartwenching ending. And I also think this was the FF game with the best-developed religion and cultural history. The amount of thought that was put into the creation of X's society really shows. Anyway, a great game. ^_^
So if you want to talk about anything to do with the game and/or its sequel, this is the thread!
Onigiri - February 19, 2005 03:49 PM (GMT)
I love FFX! I thought the ending was perfect! (The sad ones are always the best.) Unfortunatly, FFX-2 ruined the perfect ending (and image ;__;) of FFX...It was total fluff and fanservice. - -;;
When I heard of a FFX sequel and saw "Another side, Another story" I got really excited...until I saw what Yuna looked like...siigh, I hope FFVII AC doesn't turn out like that...
Kaldea - February 19, 2005 04:45 PM (GMT)
I do like FFX. It isn't as good as other FF games in my opinion, but it does have it's moments!
And FFX-2 was a DISASTER. Yuna - good clothes + hot pants + Rikku worshipping = Noooo...
Anastar - February 19, 2005 05:38 PM (GMT)
I loved FFX, all except for those blasted Trials - those drove me crazy, especially the one in Bevelle. Tidus and Yuna's situation reminded me so much of Cloud and Aerith's story, especially with Yuna was intending to sacrifice herself for the sake of the Planet and then losing Tidus. Even though their personalities were different, I felt their story had a lot of parallels. I really enjoyed the story, and I thought that Yuna was one of the best female characters since Aerith.
FFX-2, however, was a disaster. I didn't enjoy it at all. I started playing it and never finished it because I was so bored by it. I never got to the part about Shuyin and Lenne, however. That looks more interesting than the girls running around while trying to look cute and trading lame jokes with one another - so maybe I'll try it again sometime. I hated the dress sphere business, too. *gag*

Same with me! At the time I finished it, someone asked me if I liked Yuna or Aeris better and I couldn't decide! But FFX-2 made that choice for me. <_<

Not to mention the hot springs scene where Rikku compares the sizes of the girls breasts (in hint fashion) and then they all play fight in the water.
Or the mini-game of giving Lablanc a massage. "Ohhh...YES! MORE! You're good at this!" <_<
And the Sailor Moon style dress sphere transitions... And Rikku's Berserker outfit... Kill me now.
I can't believe Square made such a stupid game.
FF_Goddess - February 19, 2005 07:24 PM (GMT)
I love FFX! :D It is probably my favorite FF game. I have a hard time deciding between it and FFVII...
I agree with you guys about FFX-2. I was SO disappointed in it. :( Uematsu's absence was SORELY felt. The background music totally sucked. I did like "Real Emotion" and "1,000 Words", though. :D
Turning Yuna into a scantily-clad-pop-star-Rikku-wannabe was a bit much for me. <_< I really cannot believe Square did that to her. I mean, I understand her shaking off Yevon and all of its rules and becoming more independent. But, did they REALLY have to make her so... naked???
As for the dresspheres, I liked them. I enjoyed changing jobs mid-battle; that was very helpful. However, the way a lot of those outfits looked was... awful. Rikku's outfits were always the worst, too. <_<
The best part about this game was the Lenne/Shuyin sidestory and getting to see Tidus reunited with Yuna. I enjoyed seeing Spira again, too, but a lot of it was just depressing because it had changed so much (especially Zanarkand). :(
Hyper-Ballad - February 19, 2005 09:03 PM (GMT)
FFX didn't have quite the same strong effect on me as most of the other FF games, but I did like it a great deal, and enjoyed it a lot. Maybe the reason I wasn't as emotionally involved in the events as I've been in other games is because I didn't think very much of Tidus and Yuna... :P Don't get me wrong, I do like them, but not all that much (I think their voice actors played a big part in this, though...). But I adored the other characters!
The ending tore me apart, I have to say. I was very moved. And the entire storyline of Yu Yevon, Yunalesca, Sin, Jecht...brilliantly done.
FFX-2 is a totally different matter, though. I didn't mind the idea to begin with even though I wondered why it was going to be very lighthearted when the original game was nothing like that, and I doubted how the game would manage without Tidus and Auron, but I was willing to give it a chance and see how Square handled a sequel, though.
When I saw Yuna's new look, my first thought was actually, "GUNS! COOL!". It only occured to me later that she was being turned into fanservice. The idea of her given an unnecesarry new look and image (cool as it may appear) just for the sake of fanservice is disgusting to me, because it shows a lack of respect for her actual character. <_< And I think I was frothing at the mouth after I saw Rikku's new outfit! I mean...GEEZ. Could they have been more obvious? Couldn't she have been given an outfit that at least doesn't make players feel embarrassed when their mothers/younger siblings enter the room when she's on the screen? :P I hated seeing well-loved characters get turned into sex objects for fanboys like that...
I hated what they did with the Dress-sphere system, too. When I heard they were using FFV's Job System again for X-2, I was really excited and looking forward to it. I loved V's Job System; it was the coolest. But X-2 butchered it. All the silly dress transitions...ugh. And the way the system was explained really irked me too - it kind-of implied that now we've got an all-girl game, of course the main focus is gonna be on changing outfits and accessories! Yuck. And all their silly moments, too... (eg: water-fight). Does an all-girl game have to be quite so airheaded?
...and Brother's crush on Yuna is creepy beyond words. Did Square honestly think that everyone would forget that they're cousins?
But all that said, there was a lot of stuff I liked about FFX-2 too. Namely Paine. When I first heard about her character, I was dreading it, to be honest. In my head, I already had her pegged a cheap Lulu ripoff that'd make the Charlie's Angels feel of the game complete...but playing the game she quickly became my favourite character. IMHO, she's a great character and had a great story too. And I loved all the Nooj/Paine goodness. Another great canon couple! ^_^
And I loved the Lenne/Shuyin sidestory, too. And seeing Yuna and Tidus' reunion was a real treat. It was great to have a happy ending. And some of the outfits were really pretty, too...

That was another thing. He was next to being ALL OVER HER. And his voice is just so annoying...
The one thing I did look forward to was Paine. And I LOVED her attitude when it came to Yuna and Rikku being complete airheaded ditzes. But she joins them in the end which disgusted me beyond belief.
I was cheering Shuyin on when he wanted to destroy Spira. And Yuna's stupid speech right before to go to the last battles... As if she is some goddess or something, everything revolved around her. It was just so stupid.
~Fury Brand~ - February 19, 2005 10:16 PM (GMT)
FFX is one of my favourite Final Fantasy games and possibly the one I've spent the most time on and had the most save files for :) The other day I was clearing out my memory card to make way for save files for my little sister's new games and I noticed most of my PS2 saves were for FFX *blush*
FFX-2 although I didn't enjoy it as much as I was hoping, my own fault because I hyped myself up too much before hand was still fun, and it was refreshing to see such a light hearted theme instead of the depressing stories of earlier games :) Although the game was light hearted at first it became more serious as the story progressed, with the rising strife between the factions and the possibility of Spira being ravished by war, then the history of Shuyin and Lenne, and the way Shuyin took over people, and the Den of Woe was awesome I thought, so chilling, the way Rikku screamed like that. I also thought it was great to see NPCs from FFX again, and Auron, Jecht and Braska too :)
It's not FFX-2 itself that bothers me so much more the attitude that surrounds it. Never before it came out did I know so many people judged by appearances, once it came out that's pretty much all I seen, only rarely do I see people judging Yuna for what is inside not for what she wears, Yuna's still a wonderful person and that wouldn't change even if she was butt naked. I see a lot of people calling the YRP sluts, whores, etc but where in the game does Yuna sleep around? She remains loyal to Tidus :) Her personality too is still reminiscent of FFX at times still so sweet and eager to help people *^_^* That didn't come from the kimono, it came from inside ;) I’ve also seen a lot of oh no Square’s using sex appeal and sexual innuendo in a Final Fantasy game like comments, which really confuse me, Square used sex appeal and sexual innuendo in Final Fantasy games long before FFX-2.
As for the dressphere/job and battle systems I actually preferred it much more than FFV's because everything was so fast and smooth unlike in FFV which I stopped playing because everything happened so slowly.
Finally both FFX and FFX-2 are amongst my little sister’s favourite Final Fantasy games because she has a hard time reading but in these games she can listen to the voices instead

Kaldea - February 20, 2005 01:37 AM (GMT)
Leblanc was in love with Nooj, but there was a lot of mystery behind Paine and Nooj's relationship. I'm personally confused about the whole thing myself in the end.
You have to admit he has some wacked out hair though. Almost rivaling Seymour.
UsagiMamoru - February 20, 2005 01:40 AM (GMT)
I loved X. Tidus and Yuna's story was so sweeet. I loved their kiss in the spring. I really liked Tidus and Yuna together. Seymour was creepy. Eek! If only Tidus punched Seymour out before the wedding. Tidus should've done it!

Yeah, I am a bit unsure about all of that, too. Is this the FFX version of a love triangle??? I got the impression that Nooj and Paine liked each other in the past, but... in the present? I am not really sure. LeBlanc was crazy about "Noojie-Woojie", but was he really all that interested in LeBlanc? I honestly don't remember. I guess I should play this game again.

I agree...The voice I really couldn't stand..that's why, I think, it was good for me to see the Japanese version first (fmvs and all...including ending...I was a little bothered how in the NA version, they changed that very important line in the ending...)

Anti-R - March 19, 2005 06:57 PM (GMT)
I like this game. I have problems with the airship and the world map.
The voices too, Yuna sounds like she was going to faint. Tidus, though funny in his sarcastic moments and sounds nice in his "thinking" mode, sounds terrible in everything else (screaming, crying, whathave you).
I didn't like the kissing underwater scene. I actually change channels when I first saw it.
But their love story is nice, I felt bad for Yuna in the ending. But I was under the impression that Tidus would come back, somehow, as seen in the epilogue.
Was right in the nutshell in X-2... but I didn't like how Yuna sounds like a ditz. And the lesbian innuendos are... >.<
Bloodbath - March 21, 2005 08:10 AM (GMT)
I liked FFX. The graphics were excellent - SQUEEEEE! ^^ - and I adored the chocobos in this game. Sadly, you could only use them (I think) twice in the game. :/ The chocobos were kind of placed to one side as unimportant characters, and I don't even think moogles came into action.
Still, I loved the music score. Especially, Suteki Da Ne. Still, that can't beat Melodies of Life in FFIX. :ermm:
Anti-R, what did you find wrong in the airship and the world map?
Anti-R - March 21, 2005 05:04 PM (GMT)
Well, in the airship you just click the coordinates and then, you're there (like teleportation than transportation from a flying ship)... it wasn't fun...
As for the world map, it felt linear. The whole journey is one straight line.
Those were my only complaints. But overall, it's a good FF.
Bloodbath - March 22, 2005 08:49 AM (GMT)
Oh... I see Anti-R. I agree, it swayed from the other FFs, where you move from one town/place to another by either walking, riding on a chocobo, or some other vehicle. And, yeah, the path was just moving upwards to the north, where Zanarkand was. In the other FFs, you zigzagged and went to other continents.
So... I see your point. ^_^
Yukari - March 30, 2005 05:36 PM (GMT)
X is right up there with VII and VI in my favourites. I didn't mind that it was linear compared to other FFs - considering that Yuna was on a pilgramage, it was bound to be. The voice acting was questionable, I thought Hedy Buress did a mediocre job as Yuna. I got that she was trying to do 'repressed emotions', but she just ended up sounding like William Shatner. Tidus could get really annoying with his squealing and grunting, too. Auron though.... Mmm.
I actually really enjoyed FFX-2, I know a lot of you thought it was a disaster, but I loved it. It was a lot more light hearted than the other games, but you know, that's not always a bad thing. It was just a lot of good, (sometimes cheesy) fun! I enjoyed seeing NPCs like Rin, Dona and Issaru again, I loved seeing how Spira changed over the two years since the end of X. I had fun with the dresspheres and the Sailor Moon-esque spherechanges were a nice touch.
I also liked doing the missions, it really gave me this sense of achievement - the kind you get after beating a boss. I liked the LeBlanc syndicate too- I know they were comic relief, but so what? They were amusing. So was the massage scene, I couldn't stop chuckling during that bit. I think some fans took the innuendo too seriously. It's not like it was absent in other FFs, Honeybee Inn and Don Corneo anyone?
Also, one word. Gippal.
On the more serious side, Lenne and Shuyin's story was so well handled. The idea that Shuyin had to relive the moment when he and Lenne died, over and over for a thousand years, was heartbreaking. It made Shuyin a really sympathetic villain, not like Seymour.
Some things I wasn't too fond of in the game: Sphere Break, Sphere Break, Sphere Break. Mental maths, however basic, is not my strong point. ;)
Brother's spazzing could get really irritating, and the Via Infinito was mind numbingly boring.
The music was mediocre at best. Yuna's Ballad and 1000 Words were the only memorable themes. As FF_G said, Uematsu's absence was felt.
Hedy Buress's acting improved in the sequel, but she still sometimes put the emphasis on all the wrong words during Yuna's speeches. ("Please, don't go on grieving alone!" instead of "Please, don't go on grieving alone!")
Paine was a bit too monotone to start with, but she did get better with time.
TidusBlankety - March 31, 2005 12:04 AM (GMT)
X is totally one of my favorite games. I liked how tidus showed real emotions like anger, sadness, and even crying. It was awesome! got idus! tidus forever!...along with all my other fav charatcers! I also liked rikku, she was so cute and adoriable and awesome! I would marry her if wshe was real! ^^ same with selphie and aeris! lol I am like teh awesomest at X i beat it, got everything for everyone, and finished the sphere grid forever, everyones final weapon unlocked, beat nemesis, got everything!

::happy hop:: My elder sister is currently playing FFX-2 (we just got it on Monday!), and I like it - it's not so bad. The beginning was cool, but it was so... Charlie's Angel-ish. What I find so weird though is Brother's crush on Yuna. That... is sooo scary. :ph43r:
I guess I also don't like the fact that chocobos were shoved totally away. Beautiful golden chocobos - thou hast been so faithful to Square, and what do they do to you?!? TOSS ALL OF YOU COMPLETELY AWAY!!! ::runs to a corner and cries::
Still... ::sniffle:: FFX-2 is not that bad - even if it is for fanservice. :ermm:

its not bad, but its not good either. Rikku became really stupid in X-2. I loved rikku in XD she was one of my fav.s she was smart cute and aesome, and in x-2 sghes just a dumb blonde. And idk if im the only who noticed this but...her boobs are smaller in x-2 then they where in X

It does make a lot of sense that chocobos would be dropped in favour of machina like the hovers though, considering that the people of Spira have cast off Yevon, therefore embraced the use of all machina. After all, they've allowed the Machine Faction to take up residence in Djose Temple. (Blasphemy!) However, don't worry too much, Hopeful! There's a mission in chapter two involving our feathered friends, and also an opportunity to have them find treasure for you if you pick up Clasko on Djose Highroad in chapter one. ;)
The beginning was Charlie's Angel-ish, with all the glamour shots and the YRP posing shot. Cheesy, but fun. Brother's crush is creepy though.
Materia Thief - April 7, 2005 12:01 AM (GMT)
I liked X and, while I thought it was the worst FF out of all of them, I sorta liked X-2.
X was...beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous graphics, especially the FMVs. The Sending Dance almost left me in as much awe as was Aeris' Death (but in a different way mind you). It was just so...tragic. Also, the wedding scene was cool too. ;).
The story was very interesting and the characters I liked for the most part. Rikku was my absolute favorite, followed by Yuna and Auron and Lulu. Tidus' whining and angsting could get annoying however. The VA's were okay. Not exceptional, but they were good enough.
X-2...I have mixed feelings about. I like the dress sphere system, as it reminds me of the job system in FFV. I also like the FMVs and the 2 theme songs. I also love the story of Lenne and Shuyin, it was so sweet yet tragic. The story, for the most part, was good.
However, I didn't like what they did to most of the characters. Yuna and Rikku were turned into whiny ditzs. Paine was okay though.
The things I hate about X-2 figure WAY too largely into the story to ignore. First, Brother's crush on Yuna. Yuna is his COUSIN. Can't he get it through his head that incest = bad? Second, was the gratuitous amounts of innuendo flashed in front of my face. The clothing, while inventive, shows way too much skin. Lastly, the minigames. Granted, some WERE fun at first, but many of them were way too boring or hard for me to get anything out of them besides a headache.

Yeah, I know. <_< Many people turned away from Yevon, with only a few faithful ones following New Yevon. In Kilika, people seem to favor the Youth League - well, duh, they did help the town. ::bonks head::
:woot: Really? You'll meet our feathered friends again? ::cheers:: Then I'll be looking forward to that. ^_^ By the way, at least I have FOUR people in with me about the chocobos in FF X-2! Clasko... two people at the North exit of Mi'ihien... and this dude who sits in this place in the same screen as Rin Travel Agency. ::snobby grin::
Brother = freaky. Brother's crush on Yuna, who, oh yeah, is his COUSIN = freaky-er. ::shudder::
By the way, did you notice that in the final pose (with Y.R.P showing) Yuna is in the middle when Rikku is supposed to be (Rikku... "r"...)? Or maybe they made that purposefully? :ermm:
TidusBlankety - April 9, 2005 01:13 AM (GMT)
I didn't notice that Rikku, Yuna thing....hmm now that I think about, I think you are right...but I don't care about x-2 that much to worry about it.
FF_Goddess - April 17, 2005 10:01 PM (GMT)
Did anyone else think that Yuna's face looked wierd in the FFX-2 FMVs? During regular gameplay, her face looked much as it did in FFX. However, in the FMVs, her face was just... wierd. It didn't even look like Yuna, IMO. Her face looked... stretched... or something...
And Rikku didn't look the same, either. Her eyes were completely different and the rest of her face had been changed too much, too.
I thought that was a crappy move by S-E...
Materia Thief - April 17, 2005 10:09 PM (GMT)
They did look different!
But I think that's just because they want them to look sexier. <_<
Rikku's face looked less 'cute' and definitely less Asian. Yuna's looked thinner, like she was on a diet. :/
FF_Goddess - April 18, 2005 12:16 AM (GMT)
In other words, they both looked anorexic... :lmao:
Seii Monogatari - April 18, 2005 02:09 AM (GMT)
I thought she stayed pretty, but Yuna got more tanned, her hair changed, and she lost the classical beauty look she had in X. But I guess people change ... -_-

NOT TIDUS NOT TIDUS NOT TIDUS~~~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hE looked exactly the same as he did from FFX and he was 2 years older, meaning that he is 19 in X-2 and he wore the same good ol cloths, same face, same voice, same attitude! Hes the awesomest!!!!!!!!! Tidus is teh r0xx0r5!!!!!!!!!

On some of the FMVs her face looked thinner, but on some it looked round about the same as it did in X. A few gamers think Yuna herself got thinner, but I don't think she did. The long skirt she wore in X pretty much hid her body anyway, she was most likely the same size as she is in in X-2 underneath it.
I prefered her hair in X. Her hairstyle in X-2 just screamed 'trying to be Tidus' to me. Like her constantly saying 'huh?' wasn't enough of a hint...

I love everything about this game. The story, the characters, the music. It's all so perfect!
The_Krazie_Chick - October 17, 2006 03:05 AM (GMT)
I love FFX and FFX-2. I love Tidus too! You know how you either "click" with a character or you don't? I think I uber-clicked with Tidus. Probably why I was so devastated and in that weird daze after I played for the first time. I have a love-hate relationship with Lulu, and I all around love Rikku and Yuna. Plus Auron is the epitomy of awesome...ness. Awesomeness. That should be a word :D.
Hey, about the ending. Like I said, I was devastated about Tidus and there were some tears, but nothing really hit me until Yuna said "Never forget them." It was...Weird. There was this sinking feeling in my chest, then I just sat there watching the credits. When they were done, I started up a new game and during the intro, I burst into tears again. Why? I dunno. I still can't figure out why X had that much of an impact on me, it's insane! Or am I just emotional/sensitive? xD, maybe I need to toughen up a little. Ah well, I'm...Sorta glad it affected me so much, in a weird way. Well, good job to Square for making a PWNSOME game!
Rinchan - December 4, 2006 01:22 AM (GMT)
I liked FFX, but not as much as the other games. For some reason, it didn't feel like a Final fantasy game and I can't quite figure out why. Maybe it was because we didn't get a world map, who knows. I think they could have done some things to make it feel more like a final fantasy. Maybe they could modeled Lulu clothes more like the classic black mage style. Maybe there could have been some reference to a crystal of some sort.
Also, it took a while for Tidus to grow on me.
But I did like the game, and it had a great story. Yes I did cry at the end and I loved Tidus and Yuna's relationship. They just seemed so perfect for each other.
X-2 was a disaster. They took my Yuna and made her into... that! Rikku annoyed me a little in X, but I still liked her. In X-2 she just became unbearable! It felt like they were trying to make a game for little girls. Now I see fourteen year olds possibly even younger dressing up like Yuna and Rikku from X-2 at anime cons.
