Title: Final Fantasy 6
Description: Amazing game, just...amazing...

Same deal as with the IV and V threads. If you're a fan of FFVI (and you ought to be!), here's the place to chat about it! You can talk about anything you like - it's all good! Let's talk VI! ^_^
IMHO, there's nothing not to love about FFVI. It's definitely my favourite FF game, next to VII. It has great characters (Terra!), a fantastic villain, an amazing soundtrack, is incredibley fun to play, remains enjoyable and fun throughout despite a lot of dark stuff happening, and is overall a beautifully moving and touching game, as well as very dark, and also humorous. I was laughing like crazy through some scenes, and others made me feel a little teary-eyed. Brilliant game. Oh, and you have multiple battles with a talking purple octopus. :P
And...two words: Interactive. Opera.
Bliss...

FFVI is really fun! It's a great game. I wasn't really too attach to any of the characters, nor too interested in the plot, but it was just fun. Can't explain how or why..I got a little tired of it though since my file kept being erased after a certain part...and I trained and got almost all the espers too..--;

I adored FFVI. All the characters were wonderful, but I have to say I liked Terra, Locke, Edgar and Sabin the best. I thought Locke and Rachel's story was so touching, how Phoenix gave them the chance to talk one last time, and for Rachel to tell him how much she loved him. Sabin and Edgar's coin toss was sweet as well, neither of them wanted to be king but Edgar sacrificed his own freedom for Sabin's sake.
A few of my favourite parts of the game:
Kefka coming to Figaro Castle (Edgar, you pinhead! Why do you have to live in the middle of nowhere?)
The mystery train - I loved the music, and the little ghosts.
Finding Terra in Zozo. I really felt for her.
The opera.
Kefka's laugh!

I liked that game a lot. I wish the character's relationships were delved into more. It was a truly memorable game, I wish the second half was delved into more.

Too many characters. That's my only beef in this game.
My favorite part is how Kefka became god and literally shattered the world. I liked how the characters who were seperated were doing during that time (like Terra becoming a "mommy" for those orphans).

I enjoyed the second part of the game, where you had to shuttle around searching for your teammates. The earlier half was... a bit too tedious.
The best part -- In the floating continent where you have to fight Ultima Weapon.

I really enjoyed this game. The plot wasn't memorable in any way, but it was a good story. I loved some of the characters, too. My favorites were Locke, Terra, Edgar, Shadow, and Gau (yes, Gau!! I loved that little guy that everyone else hates!!), and I agree with Madame Batolli that the love story between Locke and Rachel was beautiful.
Some of the music is wonderful, too. I loved Terra's Theme and Forever Rachel.
I'm always surprised when I hear people say that they thought Kefka was a better villain than Sephiroth. I thought Kefka was nothing but power hungry lunatic, whereas Sephiroth was devious, manipulative, cunning, and malicious. There was really nothing driving Kefka but his desire for power, whereas Sephiroth was motivated by his hatred for Shinra along with believing that his mother - and in turn, himself - were rightful heirs to the Planet. Sephiroth was a victim as well as a villain, and I thought there was a great deal more dimension given to his character than Kefka.

Kefka's an idiot, that's what he is.
He looks like Bozo the clown, whereas Sephy's a hot bishy with beautiful long hair.. sigh.. I mean, Sephy's a better villian. 100% more.
I wasn't fond of Celes in the World of Balance, just because I considered her a rival for Locke's affections with Terra, and back then I didn't know how to use her (bloody useful, mind you) Rune skill.
But then, in the World of Destruction I was forced to use her and somehow she grew onto me. I planned to scrap her once I get back Terra, but when it did happen I was too reluctant to let her go. All the spells and powers she has acquired... she was even more powerful than Terra. So Celes wasn't that bad.
The coolest characters: Sabin and Edgar. Their weapons were stupendously powerful even in the beginning of the game. TOO powerful, in fact -- especially Sabin's Blitz.

I'm currently playing this game for the first time and I really like it. All of the character are charming in their own ways even Celes who is starting to grow on me but my favorites are Tina and Cayenne and General Leo is cool too. And the music is great! Playing this game made me wish they would remake it with FFX graphics and with orchestratic music that would be so amazing!
Anyway about who is a better villain Kafka or Sephiroth? I say Kafka. Sephiroth is a pussy cat comapared to him.

OMG I didnt think Id find so many people toehr than myself, taht loved FFVI(I have it for SNES) Lock was my hero, i loved him, he was so cool. And awesome! I loved the love story between rachel and locke, I would cry every time I would see the flash back and hear that song. Or when you get your looking for your friends, you find locke in phoenix moutain, looking for a way to save the love of his life...sadly it failed *gets all teary eyed* it was so sad! Im almost about to cry just remembering it! It was so sad!...I think im the only guy out of my friends that crys regulary...I used to enver cry...now I do it all the time...oh well ^^
The other part i loved was when Locke started liking Celes, and theres two endings for locke, have him and he saves celes and is all romantic and awesome like, dont have him(sad I could never not get him again)and celes is saved by setzer and lockes bandana, and shes all like "locke please come back to watch over me again one day." I was like "awwwwww*cry*" lol yes I cry often during games im very sensative and emotional for thigns like that, my male friends laguhat me, and my girl friends understand! ^^ yay for female friends!

I was just wondering if there was still love for the older FF games and I found this thread! I really enjoy FFVI. I think it is one of the better ones in the series, the sotry is fun and interesting, the characters keep coming but almost all of them have something to offer (except probably Umaro) and I thought that Kefka was a fascinating villian. At first I would have agreed with those of you that said he was an idiot, I initally thought that too but as the story progressed I felt he was ctually quite crafty and was truly hideous in his quest for power. *Spoilers*
When he poisons that kingdom, it is so awlful. I would never try to say Kefka was better villain than Sephiroth or vice versa they both capture the idea of a villain perfectly, but for me I will say that because he was not manipulated as Sephiroth was I would be quicker to label him pure evil than I would Sephiroth.
As Anastar pointed out Sephiroth was a victim before he was villain and therefore you can have sympathy for him to a certain extent. But while Anastar sees this factor as why Sephiroth was a better villain, it is that very example why I could argue that I understand why people think Kefka is the ultimate villian. I had no sympathy for Kefka at all, could not grasp his motives, that power could crrupt someone that much. Where with Sephiroth you see where his motives comes from.
I won't go into the depth fo the two of them I just am talking about a hatred and evil standpoint. But I can understand the argument either way. For me these two are definately the best villains in the series and for me for any game I have played.
I know someone mentioned the train being one of their favorite parts, I am afraid I am on the opposite end of that. I get very annoyed with the train.
I also thought there were many 'tug at your heart strings" type of moments such as Gau's story, Locke and Rachel, when Cyan has to say goodbye to his family, and of course Terra's story.
I thought Locke was a great male hero and I loved the idea of him and Celes, who was probably my other favorite character along with Locke, and her Rune skill was awesome.
Excellent game and alot of fun to play. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoy RPGs and/or the FF series. :fangirl:
Hades' Daughter - August 15, 2006 05:23 PM (GMT)
As much as I adore FFVII and FFIX, VI has got to be my favorite game in the whole series. Just about every character had his/her own touching story to tell, and the music was absolutely stunning. Some of its themes remain my all-time favorites, and to me, it was just a very memorable game.
What to talk about...
Personally, I always thought the love between Locke and Celes was rather one-sided. I mean, it was pretty obvious that Celes loved him and, sure, Locke cared about her...but I thought he was portrayed to have cared about Terra as well. I still think the motive behind his desire to protect both Terra and Celes had more to do with the fact that he was never able to save the woman he truly loved rather than the idea that he romantically loved either of these two women. I think there might be potential for a relationship between him and Celes after the game...but I don't think it was extremely clear that Locke romantically loved her. In the World of Ruins, while Celes was portrayed thinking about him and wanting to find him...he wasn't really doing the same. I mean, the guy was off elsewhere searching for a way to revive his dead girlfriend. :ermm:
As for Kefke...I think that guy is beyond Sephiroth in the cruelty/psycho department. Agreeing with some of you, I actually pitied Sephy at some points in FFVII. Kefka, on the other hand, is just one insane guy. It was so interesting to see how he backstabbed his superior, rose into power, and acquired the power to destroy the world. I have absolutely no sympathy for the guy, and it's probably why he's my all-time favorite FF villain ^^
I loved every single part of that game, but there are a few that were most memorable to me:
the Phantom Train
the Opera House
The fight against Atma Weapon and Kefka's cruelty on the floating continent
Solitary Island (My poor Cid died during that scene a few times  )
I would highly recommend both FFVI and FFIV to any fan. IMO, you haven't fully experienced the wonders of FF until you've played some of these old-school ones ^^
Schala - August 16, 2006 12:09 AM (GMT)
I played this game a while ago, though I didn't get very far. Just past the opera part, I think. Anyway, I never managed to really get into it the way I could with FF4. Locke and Celes' romance part just didn't catch my fancy considering that I wanted to pair him with Terra.
I probably would have given it another chance had the graphics been a little more up to date, but... (too used to eye-popping CGs) But there were some things that I liked, like Sabin! Each of the characters' special abilities were well thought out and pretty unique, so I had quite a bit of fun with that.
As for Kefka, he was amusing, to say the least. I could never ever like him as much as Sephiroth (really, bishie v.s. a crazy clown...) but he's funny in a sick kind of way. Seriously, how many bad guys complain after you hit them a couple of times?
