Title: Does Anyone Know How...?
Damaged - January 21, 2008 04:30 AM (GMT)
I want to make a folder on my computer that only I can read. Anyone know what I mean? If not, then I'll try to explain.
I want to create a journal on my computer, but if I do that, everyone can read it. I was wondering if anyone knew how I could set up a password so that only I can read it. Get what I mean now?

I know you can password protect a zip folder, but I think a regular folder needs an external software to be able to password protect it.
To password protect a zip folder just create a zip folder and put whatever you want to password protect in there. Open up the zip folder and click "add a password" from the file tab.

Thanks for that. Another question. How do you create a zipfolder?

Right click > New > Compressed (Zip) Folder

Man, I feel stupid now. Thanks MistaCloudStrife for all your help ^_^ :huggle:
EDIT: How do you set a password to it? I'm sorry if I'm bothering you about all this. I'm slow sometimes.

After you have what you want in the zip folder you go into the zip folder flick on file and create password. Then you type in your password you want in twice and that should do it.

Try
Livejournal. It will let you have a
public journal (anyone can see it on the internet) a
friends only journal (if you make friends on livejournal only they can see your entries) or
private (no one except you can see your entries.) It gives you a user name and a password. So you would have to log into the website in order to see your entries.
There are many places like this online. Livejournal, Greatest Journal-- Take your pick.
This isn't to out-do MistaCloudStrife either! I'm just offering an alternative. Pick whichever method you're most comfortable with. :aeris:

heres a freeware file encryption software you can so you can create passwords for your files when you click one of the encrypted files it brings up the program and asks for the password if entered correctly it will decrypt it when your done you'll have to re encrypt it again so it's kind of annoying but very nice and secure.
i have just installed it myself and i approve it's virus free also i'm also going to keep it myself

I don't want to have to download anything though. I think I'll just try MisaCloudStrife's idea.
EDIT: I'm just not going to worry about it. Nothing is helping. If someone reads it, then fine. I can't be liable for what they read. If it hurts them, then oh well. They shouldn't be snooping through my files in the first place. Thanks for the help guys, it's just ticking me off. Mainly because I'm seeing nothing to do with the word "file".

come to think you could just rename the folder and keep it in your program files folder name it something like system j or something that sounds like it's to do with programs most people don't look in there no way only folks like me cause i do alot of game modding.

Just make one single document on Microsoft Word and then password-protect the document. Just don't lose the password. ^_^
