Title: On Ffvii Remake
Description: ..Let's gather all news/rumours together
sha - January 17, 2008 08:09 AM (GMT)
I don't know whether this is true or not, I don't even know who this 'surfer girl' is, but from comments by users from this site, some people said that she used to be right about certain rumours that she spread before, so I don't know..
Anyway, here goes the new rumour:
Januari 17 2008"According to Surfer Girl, on January 14, 2007 she revealed that Square Enix is remaking games for the PLAYSTATION Network.
Today, in the comments section of one of her posts, a questioner asks how Square Enix will remake their games, and what games. Surfer Girl responded "Primarily graphical touches. I hear FF7 (again, not in that rumored all-out remake fashion that has been mention)."
If anything, I'd take both Final Fantasy VII on the PLAYSTATION Network and a full-fledged remake. If one, I'd go for the full-fledged though."http://www.n4g.com/ps3/News-100734.aspxSource:
http://ff7ac.hotcafe.to/index.htmlMay I add this ultimate hint from FFVII 10th Anniversary Ultimania?:

:D
Hey, lets gather the informations together and see if we will 'meet' the remake.. :D
p/s: I had search a thread to place that rumour, but I didn't find any.. But, if this is supposed to be merged with any thread, please do :)
EDIT: OK, I'm getting confused.. What about this one?
Januari 15 2008"Remember about a week and a half ago, that EGM rumor stating that a Japanese publisher is remaking classics for the PLAYSTATION Network? Well, Square Enix just may be that publisher.
On Surfer Girl's (the girl with the inside scoop) blogger site, a commenter asked if she knew the company remaking classics for the PLAYSTATION Network. She simply replied "Square Enix".
Could we be seeing enhanced versions of Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy Tactics soon on the PLAYSTATION Network? Let's hope that leads into a Final Fantasy VII remake."http://www.n4g.com/ps3/News-99866.aspx

Hm, if this is true then I hope it's good. :) But it might be just another rumor going around like the others.
BulletProofMarshMellow - January 17, 2008 11:48 PM (GMT)
Ah, that reminds me! My friend sent me an interview, where Nomura was asked to make a re-make of FFVII.
Where, he laughed and said:
"If you want it so bad, than why don't YOU make it?"
I'll try and see if I can find it again. x'D From the sound of that, it doesn't seem like he's set on starting anything anytime soon. -sigh-
MistaCloudStrife - January 18, 2008 05:07 AM (GMT)
There's also the EGM interview with Nomura discussing the Tech-Demo. Said something about 5 years and 300 people to work on it. Or something along those lines. Remake wasn't denied nor confirmed though.
I have the magazine somewhere... if only I could find it.
Aerithstrife_7 - January 18, 2008 05:52 PM (GMT)
until it comes from SE themselves.. i wont count on it but from what the ultimania and the super demand from the fans.. im sure SE is probably thinking about it.. even if not now many some time in the future i mean they know they cant give fans a better present than that.. *and of course the amount of money they would receive CAN YOU IMAGINE?* but hopefully as the ultimania said.. we can meet FF 7 again!!!
Pyra Kurai Akaidra - January 18, 2008 10:30 PM (GMT)
I'll wait until SE give us an undeniable confirmation.
Though it would be nice to see the Chrono games in PAL territories. Or other JP/USA-only games.

There is a scan, from this month's edition of Official Playstation Magazine, includes an interview with Hajime Tabata, director of CC.. He was talking a bit about FFVII remake..
"PTOM : So, that Final Fantasy VII remake that you've said will never happen. Why?
HT : I think it is because the conditions that are necessary to remake the game have not been met at this point. The possiblity for a remake may become greater if, for instance, the schedules of the original members of the Final Fantasy VII development team, such as Kitase and Nomura, open up."Actual scanSource:
Squareunion.comIs that really means, the development of a FFVII remake could possibly start after the completion of FFXIII and Versus? What do you think?

Sure, unless they take on another project after all that. Plus there's also the KH games...

Yayeeee~~~ *Gotta replies all my honey's posts*
Ahemm, well, personally I think the remake of FF7 is secretly "in progress" for a loooooong time, SE just did a good job at hiding any news ''bout it. It definitly will be a great mount of work on them, and as I remember, SE dare not use new/young working groups, they need the original team, which are all occupied and has the hands full of present FF series..... But still, I think they might have started this progress for a while, little by little, they just dun feel like releaseing any information, just to kill us by the damn longing expects.
In the interview part of CC Ultimania, Nojima said that the words CLoud says in the Forgotten City is more like his, when he thought of the whole heavy progress of FF7 remake.... :lmao:
*off topic*
IMO, the remake of FF7 will be made into two cases. The first disc ends with the episode of Aerith's death....Ahahaha~~ yo know, dramatic elements.
kuri-chan - February 7, 2008 08:44 AM (GMT)
God, all I can say is that if FFVII is remade it'll be like a dream come true. That game is magic, and just pure love.
Angelwing Aeris - February 7, 2008 06:30 PM (GMT)
I doubt it will be remade if at all, but if it does, it will done after SE current projects, FFXIII and its three games, Crisis Core...etc. If it does get remade I will love SE forever!
FF_Goddess - February 7, 2008 06:52 PM (GMT)
A FFVII remake worries me a lot. Look at how much they changed about FFVII in other games and imagine them doing that to the original story. I don't want to play my absolute favorite RPG and see added characters, like Genesis, stuck in there where they have no place. <_< I also worry that they will tone down the ClAeris-ness of the original story to make it more fair to CloTis (since they are playing the "let's be nice to everyone even if they are wrong" game).
kuri-chan - February 7, 2008 07:02 PM (GMT)
^Eww! I know what you're saying! I don't think I'd ever forgive them if they changed the game like that. The only think I'd like to see is new graphics and voices... maybe longer and more interesting cutscenes, but not too much more, definitely nothing that changes the game... or makes it more CloTi, EW?? I'd totally die if they did that. -____- Screw fairness, it's not all fair in love and war!!
... or however that saying goes.

All your worriness outspeaks mine, FFG. i myself love it and hate it at the same time. Although SE ensured us numerous times about the difficulties in remaking FF7(mostly about how they dare not change a little bit and how it damn difficult to present the scenes with newest tech), the creators still didnn't win my trust at all...
Maybe I'm just overly optimistic, all the remake scenes in my head are about Cloud and Aerith, had totally forgot the recton part....
But seriously, a little more about how Cloud pains for her death will be ok..... :hide:

That's what I'm worried about. I'd rather for them to re-release it instead of remaking it. I mean, if they remake it and there are still the same old Clerisness, then I'll be flattered. :)
I just don't want them to remake the famous "CloTi Highwind Scene" and then add a make-out scene or something to it. :ermm:

Yes, I've thought about that, too. If Square changes anything Clerisy about the game to remain more neutral, I'll be pretty pissed. With all the retcons we've been given so far, I'm really wondering... But, of course, I'm one of the ones that never wanted a FFVII remake at all. I'm fine playing it in crappy graphics.
I don't want to see any added characters randomly stuck in there either, like they did with Denzel in AC. If the game does get remade, I'd hope the creators would stay true to the original, in every way possible.
nyrin - February 7, 2008 10:05 PM (GMT)
Personally, I think the game's just fine as is. Why try to remake a legendary game when they SHOULD be concentrating on creating new, better legendary games for us to all fangirl/boy over. I say just keep on going forward instead of going back, before they milk the FF7 franchise so far it loses what made it so amazing in the first place.
kuri-chan - February 7, 2008 11:34 PM (GMT)
I think a remake (or should I say, remodeling) of the game would be great because a majority of kids these days just WON'T touch FFVII really. They're like EWW ICKY GRAPHICS! -_-;;; A remodeling or remastering of the game could be a great thing, in my opinion, but not if they redo the story in any way or add any new characters... I think that'd totally kill it.
But even if it wasn't ever touched again, I'm happy playing the original over and over. x3
Sternenstaub - February 8, 2008 09:52 AM (GMT)

| They're like EWW ICKY GRAPHICS |
Kids like that don't deserve to even touch FFVII. <_< Either you play FFVII for its story or you don't play it at all.
Hah, I'm introducing my little sister (12 years) to all the good games she doesn't know yet. Guess she will be shocked too, starting with FFX and ending with Xenogears (which has worse graphics than FFVII, by the way) but she knows already not to look at the graphic alone.
It's sad when children these days grow up thinking FFXII to be the best game in existence but - bad luck - if they're to superficial to see the real thing, they shall die dumb.
Personally I would have prefered to see a remake over a sequel/prequel/spin-off but mostly I would have prefered SE wouldn't touch FFVII at all. I'd drool over more high-res Aeris  but not at the cost of sacrificing the meaning of the original game.
kuri-chan - February 8, 2008 08:51 PM (GMT)
Totally agree. If it means ruining what we've known for over a decade, a remake really wouldn't be worth it.
A friend of mine wants to play the game, she feels bad for seeing AC without playing it--she even said that the graphics didn't bother her at all! *o* I swear I wanted to squeeze her!! I haven't heard anyone take any interest in the actual game since I was in like... third grade? Most of the people who talk about it now only know "AC EMO Cloud!!1". *sniff*
So sad.

Squeeze her from me, too :lmao:
I just came to realize that the generation of players that "grew up" with FFVII and what it means is nearly over. FFVII is still hailed for what is was and is but the interest is moving away from it. The compilation doesn't help either, as you said, they know only AC which is quite the wrong impression.
You're very right, it really is sad.
Fenrir_in_Flowers - February 9, 2008 04:04 PM (GMT)
I can't say I wouldn't enjoy some Cleris in highend graphics and with voices. Watching Zack's death scene in the CC cutscenes just immediately brought to mind what could be done with Aerith's death and Cloud's reaction to it now. *sigh* Some updating could be really great if done right. But the likely retconning it would suffer would tick me off to no end.
I'm not quite sure how they even could remake the game so that it still "works" in that new format. Would the Cloud dressed as a woman still be as funny, or is part of what made it so funny tied into the freedom that those cartoony old graphics allowed for. Everytime Barret or Cid spoke with "#@&%" in their dialogue, how can that be done with added VA's? Would we'd get lots more cursing... strange sound effects to cover the words... or would those lines just be heavily edited. There is alot to worry me in the options.
I suppose the best compromise that I can find would be to port it to the PSP and only update the FMV's for minimal impact to the game as a whole. Or even just port it to the PSP as is, so that we don't have a bazillion compiliation games coming out and pushing for a game that's no longer even in production.
Honestly, the whole topic of an update brings forth a love/fear reaction from me.
TheMachine - February 9, 2008 04:38 PM (GMT)
There's a ton of mods floating out there for the PC version of FF7 which partially updates a lot of the graphics. It's nothing like a full-scale remake, but it does demonstrate that the game can be enhanced graphically without ruining the experience. Still, in order for that to work, the game's mechanics, plot and gameplay cannot be altered... so in essence we'd just have higher resolution backgrounds, more detailed character models and (hopefully) new FMVs. And as you mention, Fenrir_in_Flowers, such a limited remake would make for an excellent PSP game and maybe alleviate the demand for it (have you seen the prices on ebay for the original game?).
A full-scale remake where the battle system was redone, where voice actors would be added, where the game would be taken from it's bizarre half 2D/half 3D setup... could potentially ruin it. And if they retconned or added Cloti elements... well, I'd kill. Still I'm not entirely against the idea either of a remake... it just scares me.

Earlier today, the release date of Final Fantasy VII on the PlayStation 3 system was set for 1/1/2008. Now it has changed again.
It's new release date is set too 11/01/2008 (November 1, 2008). Does 1UP know a secret that we don't know about?I'm not sure if this is true. I don't want to get my hopes up (too high) if this is just some false rumor. :(

From what I've heard, it's not a remake, it's a RE-RELEASE. Don't get your hopes up too high yet. SE's still got a ton on their plates, and I have to say that I doubt they'll have a remake of the game just over a year after the announcement.
Sefie - February 26, 2008 01:21 AM (GMT)
I REALLY doubt they wouldn't announce a re-make less than a year or two before releasing it. I mean, we knew AC was coming for....3 years?
RoxasXIII - February 26, 2008 10:07 AM (GMT)
Nomura has stated that there could be a FF VII-2 but he is busy on FF XIII, a FF VII remake would be made when the time was right.
So square might make it, hopefuly they will well there where rumours on KH BBS and that became reality.
Also Nomura has said he is not finished with Cloud just yet. i wonder what that could mean?
(sorry about the spelling) :)

IMO Nomura needs to be finished with Cloud. I am so freaking SICK of him sticking him in EVERYTHING. The poor guy has been through enough! Move on Nomura! Give us some new material! Not "New Final Fantasy" "spinoff game" "spinoff game" "CLOUD!!!!!!!" "KH number 10000000" "Cloud" "Final Fantasy 20339394" "Spinoff game"

Well, apparently Cloud's story is coming to an end soon. I heard he has a few games left for Cloud. I hate all the retconning they have to do. It messes up the story.
sdjsfan4ever - April 10, 2008 01:17 AM (GMT)
I wouldn't doubt it if Square Enix is going to remake the game but I also think that they are being so secretive about it that they are probably giving out false information to throw people off. They also probably won't remake it until after Final Fantasy XIII comes out.

I really want AC to remain the end of his story, I don't want them screwing FFVII up anymore than they already have. D:
And enough of that BS retconning, too. -_- Crisis Core was enough, kthx.

I dunno ... I love Crisis Core :P The graphics are great, the gameplay looks great, vas are decent and I like the music  It seems to have had very positive reviews so far from most people. Tbh I'm finding the Compilation a lot more interesting than FFXIII a, b, c =/ The next gen FF doesn't seem to have my type of character from the looks of it so far.

That part of story in FF7 has not so much description, I really love to know more about the history of the Ancients, Aeriht's fellowmen. :aeris:

While I love the cetra storyline, I'd rather have it left alone. I don't want everything in VII to be explored y'know? I like there being some mystery left in the game. And besides, Genesis would probably SOMEHOW end up being the last remaining ancient. :P
