Title: Evidence?
Description: For Cloud and Aerith
Kaleta - January 12, 2008 04:12 PM (GMT)
Okay, so i just want to see how much evidence we actually have for our lovely pairing <3 I have quite a few but i think im missing something. So if you guys could help me out, that would be great, please provide some insight on why you think that your evidence is actual evidence so i dont pass on false information n.n ( did that make sense? )
Also, i dont think symbolism would be a great evidence so if we stir clear from that then that would be great! :3 Also, if possible, the evidence must have BOTH aerith and Cloud's name in some sort of sense. If only one character's name is used, we can't use it as evidence even if the other persons belongings or something similiar to them is provided aswell. Here are my findings ( these are mostly found in Cloud and Aerith sites, advertisement things from FF_G's site <3 )

Interesting, I think, it's all right. I think there is way more though. You also seem to forget the scene in ff7 in the ShinRa Building were Cloud and Aeris form a two person world in front of Tifa.
Kaleta - January 12, 2008 06:10 PM (GMT)
Yeah, i know there are alot more xD But i cant seem to remeber them D;

| Cloud and Aeris form a two person world |
o.o what do you mean?
Kuraudo - January 12, 2008 07:47 PM (GMT)
Tifa gets jealous when she sees Cloud and Aerith building a "two person world" in front of her in the Shinra building, which causes her to blurt out her feelings in that scene ("EXCUSE me").
Kaleta - January 14, 2008 04:48 PM (GMT)
You mean when they were in the cell together? I didnt really think that was a "two person world" then again, i havent played it for so long xD
sha - January 14, 2008 06:15 PM (GMT)
The exact conversation from the scene:
| QUOTE |
Aerith "Cloud, are you there?"
Cloud "Aerith!? You safe?"
Aerith "Yeah, I'm all right."
(She swings her legs over the side of the cot.)
Aerith "I knew that Cloud would come for me."
Cloud "Hey, I'm your bodyguard, right?"
(She walks to the door of her cell.)
Aerith "The deal was for one date, right?"
(Tifa sits up.)
Tifa "............oh, I get it."
Aerith "...!? Tifa! Tifa, you're there too!"
Tifa "EXCUSE me." |
:D
And this is quote from FFVII 10th Anniversary Ultimania:
Friend and rival?
The complicated feeling toward Aerith As for Aerith, who can be called a love rival since she also has affection to Cloud, Tifa gets along with her as friends. Though it's true, it's not difficult to visualize Tifa's carrying complicated feeling to her, since there's a special bond, which differs to hers, formed between Cloud and Aerith .
Tifa's complicated feeling still continues after 2 years from Aerith's death. As we know, Cloud considers that Aerith's death is his responsibility, so after self-interpreting Densel as "someone carried by Aerith" and has him being protected, Cloud himself goes to the Church where Aerith used to be. It's clear to see Tifa's anxious about Cloud; maybe not only because Cloud is dragging over the past, but also Aerith is one of the reasons.Note from Chibica:*I underline the sentence above cuz it could be translated like "since Cloud builds a special bond with Aerith, which differs from hers"...but I'll make it a less Clerith line for nuatrality... :)
And the one-liners:
1.Seeing Cloud and Aerith reveal a 2-ppl world in front of her, she slats(or blurt?) out the feeling unintentionally.
2.Knowing Aerith's Church is the place where Cloud lives after leaving them, her face starts to have a complicated look.
3.Like smiling to Aerith. Considering her as someone important, this is Tifa's honest(or frank) feeling.

OHH!!! thank you so much! :3 i was kinda wondering where this world thing came from xD
BulletProofMarshMellow - January 15, 2008 02:53 AM (GMT)
Is a two person world the same as "their" world? I remember reading it and it said she blurted out her feelings when Cloud and Aeris started developing "their" world together. : X
Poor Tifa. >.< That was awkward for all three of them. x'D

Well, I believe the exact translation was "two-person world". In other words, a world in which only two people are included or, more simply, "their world". I am not sure why they put it the way they did... :ermm:

In english, a 2-people word sounds quite odd. Their world makes alot more sense. It also would make sense when Cloud mentions 'what about US', refering to Cloud and Aerith's 'world'. That's what I think atleast.

* In Parasite Eve II, Cloud and Aerith's names appear yet again. In the laboratory, the computer there has a virus called "Fatekeeper". FF_Goddess - March 13, 2008 05:47 PM (GMT)
I just added some new stuff to my site on the "ClAeris proof" page:
The predictions of Cait Sith. I have heard a lot of people say that Cait Sith's predictions are wrong, but these people are either misinformed or lying. From Cait Sith's profile in the FFVII 10th Anniversary Ultimania (p 61):
The name of my divination machine is not Dotty!
The collection of Cait Sith's fortunetelling.
Cait Sith ambushed in Gold Saucer and waited for Cloud's gang. He introduced himself that "I'm a fortuneteller here." But this is never an absolute lie, fortunetelling is Cait Sith's innate specialty. His extraordinary ability is shown as "tickets" in FF7, and is also revealed as surmises of destination in BC.
The list of Cait Sith's fortunetelling:
* In FF7: The location of Sephiroth: "What you pursue will be yours. But you will lose something dear."
The development from now on: "Ordinary luck. It will be an active fortune."
The affinity between Cloud and Aerith: "You are perfect for each other! Aerith's star and Cloud's star! They show a great future!"
* In BC: The place to find "Support Materia".
The direction to every door in the Reactor.
So, according to S-E, Cait Sith's predictions are correct. He may not have always been able to tell Cloud what he wanted to hear, but his fortunes were never incorrect, either. They even list some of his fortunes, including the fact that he states that Aerith and Cloud are perfect for one another. If the creators consider Cait Sith's predictions to be correct, and they have him stating that Cloud and Aerith are perfect for one another, doesn't it logically follow that the creators themselves consider Cloud and Aerith to be perfect for one another? And doesn't that logically follow even further to prove that Cloud and Aerith are the true couple of FFVII? Poor CloTis, if even the creators of the game consider Cloud and Aerith a perfect couple, what hope do you have of proving anything?
From the Final Fantasy VII Ultimania Omega (p.120):
The fortune telling with deep meaning.
Cait Sith's divination about the direction toward Sephiroth turns out three consequences. Disregarding the previous two, the noticeable one is the third result which becomes the chance for him to follow the party- "What you're looking for will be yours, but you'll lose something very dear."
As the storyline moves on to the event at the Forgotten City, the "something very dear" can be read as losing Aerith, and it also hints at the event of Cloud's reaching his self-breakdown when the story goes to the Northern Crater.
As confirmed, Cait Sith's fortune of "But you will lose something dear" refers to the death of Aerith, the one most dear to Cloud. I know, it seemed obvious to me, too, and yet CloTis have argued against this for years. It's nice to have it confirmed. Not only that, but you have yet another Ultimania confirming that Cait Sith's predictions are accurate.
Now... let's look more closely at Cait Sith's prediction for Cloud and Aerith, which is discussed further in the Final Fantasy VII Ultimania Omega (p. 151):
The last fortune telling from Cait Sith No.1.
After solving the puzzle about Cait Sith's replaceable body, he tells one last fortune of Cloud and Aerith's affinity. The results of it turns out "Aerith-san's star and Cloud-san's star! They promise a great future!" After that, it will become a sad prediction if we get to know what would happen afterward. But if we catch the meaning of the "future" from another angle, we can see hope... perhaps.
Here we have another Ultimania describing the "affinity", or natural attraction, between Cloud and Aerith. The outcome of the prediction is described as "sad" because, as we all know, Aerith dies, leaving Cloud heartbroken. However, notice that this Ultimania describes Cloud and Aerith as still having a "future" of some sort. When you take Advent Children into account, you start understanding this "future" Cloud and Aerith are described as having, and you learn that there is indeed "hope" for this tragically separated couple. The "future" Cloud and Aerith share is a reunion in AC, where Cloud learns that his lost love was never truly lost at all and that she has always been by his side, if only he hadn't shut himself away from the world and closed his mind and heart. Cloud and Aerith are reunited in AC and Aerith is confirmed as living on in Cloud's subconsciousness, where she will be with him until the end of his days. Cloud is shown as being content by the time his story comes to a close. And so Cloud and Aerith's "great future" has been restored.
Last, but definitely not least, is one more quote from the Ultimania Omega (p. 151), the caption beneath the quote above:
Cait Sith's lines, which seem to expect Cloud and Aerith's wedding, now makes it more painful.
I had suspected since playing the original game that Cait Sith predicted Cloud and Aerith's marriage in the future, what with his "I'll be your matchmaker, preacher" line. But, it was certainly awesome to have this confirmed in a piece of official material! Considering that Cait Sith's predictions have been considered correct by not just one, but two Ultimanias, it seems that, if Aerith had not died, she and Cloud would have ended up getting married in the future. IMO, this is solid evidence that proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Cloud and Aerith were in love in FFVII and were the true and intended couple of the game.
And...
Tifa is jealous of Aerith/of Cloud's bond with Aerith. Numerous times in FFVII, Tifa's jealousy is apparent:
In Don Corneo's:
Aerith: "Tifa? Nice to meet you. I'm Aerith. Cloud's told me a lot about you."
Tifa: "... And you are? Hey, you're the one with Cloud in the park."
Aerith: "Right, with Cloud."
Tifa: "Oh......"
Final Fantasy VII Dismantled shed some light on Tifa's thoughts during this scene: "I was displeased at the way Cloud and another girl soon became good friends. Well, Aerith is a very good girl, I was fond of her soon, too. No wonder..." And this was just Tifa's first surge of jealousy toward Cloud and Aerith, who, according to Tifa, had become "good friends" in a reasonably short amount of time. Another example from this same scene:
Cloud: "Hey, give me a chance to answer. I'm dressed like this... because there was no other way to get in here. I'm all right. Aerith helped me out."
Tifa: "Oh, Aerith did......"
Later, after being captured by Shinra:
Cloud: "I wonder how Aerith is doing."
Aerith: "Cloud, are you there?"
Cloud: "Aerith!? You safe?"
Aerith: "Yeah, I'm all right. I knew that Cloud would come for me."
Cloud: "I'm your bodyguard, right?"
Aerith: "The deal was for one date, right?"
Tifa: "...... oh, I get it."
Aerith: "...!? Tifa! Tifa, you're there, too!"
Tifa: "EXCUSE me...."
A tidbit about this scene from Tifa's profile in the Final Fantasy VII 10th Anniversary Ultimania:
Seeing Cloud and Aerith developing their world together before her eyes, she inadvertently lets slip her peevish feelings.
Tifa is jealous because Cloud and Aerith are developing a bond between them that she herself doesn't have with Cloud. Clearly, if Tifa is noticing something between Cloud and Aerith that is enough to make her cry out "EXCUSE me" jealously, then Cloud and Aerith must have been displaying romantic interest in one another. If the interest had been merely one-sided, then the interest would never have been described as Cloud and Aerith's world.
Later, in the Temple of the Ancients, Tifa becomes jealous when Cait Sith predicts that Cloud and Aerith are not only perfect for one another, but that they have a wedding in their future. Cait Sith's line of "Poor Tifa..." evokes sympathy for Tifa who has a very good reason to be jealous at this point. After all, she has just been told that the man she loves is perfect for another woman and that they might even get married in the future. What hope does she have?
More on Tifa's jealous feelings from her profile in the Final Fantasy VII 10th Anniversary Ultimania:
Both of them share feelings for Cloud. Tifa was close to Aerith, who can also be called a love rival. With that point in mind, they were also good friends. Nevertheless, it is not hard to imagine that she carries complex feelings as a woman toward Aerith, who had built up a special bond with Cloud that was different from Tifa's.
Tifa's complicated feelings continue even in AC, two years after Aerith had departed the world. This was due to the fact that Cloud, succumbing to the notion that Aerith's death was his fault and condemning himself, construed that Denzel was "the child which Aerith brought here" and took care of him. In addition, Cloud had also gone away to the church that Aerith had been in. The thing which she is unable to hide her irritation towards Cloud is the fact that he isn't merely dragging the past around, but because that reason might perhaps be related to Aerith.
So, not only is it confirmed that Tifa is jealous of Aerith, but she is jealous of the bond that Cloud and Aerith share, which is different than the bond Tifa has with Cloud. This statement is solid evidence of romantic love between Cloud and Aerith. Why else would Tifa be jealous? If Cloud and Aerith merely share a bond between good friends, why would Tifa need to be jealous of this? After all, Tifa and Cloud are good friends, too, and Cloud and Aerith's bond was specifically noted to be different than Tifa's bond with Cloud. Some CloTis like to make out that Cloud and Aerith share a familial bond, like that between mother and son, or brother and sister. Again, why would Tifa need to feel jealous of such a bond? Tifa was the one specifically noted to have a "maternal bond" with Cloud, whom she sees as a "big kid" (Reunion Files). If Tifa has a romantic bond with Cloud, as you CloTis suggest, why would she feel jealous over Cloud having a bond of friendship, or a mother-son bond with Aerith? If that is the case, then Tifa is just completely imbalanced and the epitome of the "psycho girlfriend". XD
The fact is that Tifa doesn't have a romantic bond between herself and Cloud. Tifa's bond with Cloud doesn't surpass that of friends who are like family, much as she would like it to. However, Cloud's bond with Aerith is that of mutual love, that of soul mates. This is the only explanation for Tifa being jealous over Cloud and Aerith's "special" bond. You certainly don't ever see Aerith being jealous of Cloud's bond with Tifa, do you? This tells me that she sees nothing romantic between them.
Also, it was confirmed that Tifa is still jealous over Cloud's bond with Aerith even after two years, into AC. This tells us that Cloud's bond with Aerith has persisted over those two years, and that it is clear to Tifa that Aerith is the one in Cloud's heart.

*Bows* Glad you all liked it! :gift: Feel free to use that on the rabids of the fandom.
Something else mention-worthy... the only CloTi scene from FFVII which receives any attention at all in the Compilation is the childhood promise scene at the well. It is mentioned in Before Crisis and Crisis Core, two games that take place in the past, during a time when Cloud's promise to Tifa was important to him. Of course, as we all know, for some reason, Cloud forgets about the promise by the time he is reunited with Tifa during FFVII. He remembers Tifa, but not the promise. Strange... and perhaps related to the experiments he was victim to at the hands of Hojo. However, even when reminded of the promise, Cloud blows it off and demands money.
So why does the promise scene get brought up? Simple-- it's all Cloud and Tifa have together. That promise is the only thing that binds these two together after all the years they were apart. Honestly, they never even knew each other as children. Cloud always admired Tifa from afar and wished to be a part of her group and Tifa barely knew Cloud existed. In fact, they had never even talked to each other until that night at the well. Without that promise, they never could have fooled themselves into thinking they were ever friends and Tifa would not have been able to deceive Cloud. Tifa would not have had a bargaining chip to get Cloud to rejoin AVALANCHE either. Without that childhood promise, Tifa would have just been another face from the past, of no consequence to Cloud who barely knew her to begin with. But, with the addition of the promise, they actually shared a memory from their childhood and that was enough to provide some sort of bond and a basis for the "childhood friend" deceit. All in all, it is a brilliant plot addition. And a necessary one at that.
But, does the Lifestream sequence or the HWS get mentioned? Nope. In fact, neither Cloud nor Tifa have bothered to reminisce about either of these supposedly "romantic" scenes. If these scenes were so terribly important and showed something romantic between Cloud and Tifa, don't you think that, at the very least, Tifa would have stopped to remember them at some point??? And yet there remains nothing, no homage scenes, no allusions, no flashbacks, nada.
While only one CloTi scene gets any attention, there are at least four ClAeris scenes which are given deference:
a. Aerith's burial scene. This was a very poignant and bittersweet scene for all ClAeris fans as it showed the depth of Cloud's sorrow for Aerith and yet also portrayed his gentleness toward her. It was a scene that spoke volumes of his true feelings for Aerith. This scene was reproduced during the flashbacks to FFVII which were shown at the beginning of AC.
b. Cloud falling through Aerith's church roof. This scene was the beginning of Cloud and Aerith's relationship, and was the first time in the game they were properly introduced. It was after this that Cloud promised to be Aerith's protector for the chance to go on a date with her. It is a scene that many ClAeris fans adore.
This particular ClAeris scene has been reused many times during the Compilation. During Before Crisis, one of the characters falls through the church roof. Later, in Crisis Core, Zack is shown making a similar entrance and meeting Aerith in the same way Cloud does years later. Also, in AC, after Aerith heals Cloud, she transports him back to the church. For the second time in his life, Cloud awakens lying in Aerith's flowerbed (albeit a flooded one) after a traumatic event.
c. The hand reach scene. This particular scene is one of the few romantic scenes contained in FFVII and an absolute favorite of ClAeris fans all over the world. After Cloud defeats Sephiroth, he notices he is surrounded by Lifestream. Reaching up toward the light, Cloud is rewarded by a glimpse of Aerith's hand, reaching out to take his own. However, they are interrupted as the Northern Cave begins to collapse.
In AC, though, Cloud and Aerith get a second chance. Aerith descends from the heavens to boost Cloud into his battle with Bahamut-Sin. They reach for each other and Cloud is finally able to take Aerith's hand, as he was unable to do two years previously. From Reunion Files:
Nojima: "The ending scene of the battle with Bahamut, the scene where Aerith reaches out her hand, is homage to the last scene from a previous production. It was Tetsuya (Nomura)'s idea...."
d. The night at Cosmo Canyon. It was during this scene that Cloud came very close to confessing his feelings to Aerith. Aerith was feeling very alone after learning about the Cetra and realizing that she was the last of her kind, saying, "I'm......alone... I'm all alone now..." Cloud attempts to comfort her and, in doing so, slips, revealing more than he intended: "But I'm...... we're here for you, right?"
In Maiden of the Planet, Aerith remembers this scene fondly: She looked up into the sky like the time she sat beside Cloud around the kindling fire in Cosmo Canyon.
So there.

I love your essay's FF_G! They are so god damn factual! Also, i actually dont see why the promise scene for Cloud and Tifa is so important to some cloti's. Just because Cloud promises to protect tifa it means romantic stuff, yet when Cloud promises to protect Aerith, its means squat ._.

From left to right, up to down: Final Fantasy V (PS) (Cloud's sprite), Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicle, Final Fantasy X-2 (the X-s scan with Shinra, about using the pyrefly as energy = Lifestream/Mako connection?), Parasite Eve 1 & 2, Final Fantasy XI and can't read the last one, looks like Itadaki Street Special.

:cleris: thnx guys this is solid proof =D
also I dunno if u know but in the manual of dirge of cerberus it describes Aerith as a girl Cloud won't ever forget (something like that I don't remember the exact words ). And it descrifes Tifa as Cloud's chilhood friend. In Aerith they don't use the word FRIEND!!! 4 me it's also a proof :aeris:

FF_G could you address the Aerith's 89 letters to Zack? Clotis are using as proof of Zerith. By the way, all your essays are great! :huggle:
I especially love this part: (nice pwning)

As CG says present relationships render our past ones obsolete. Thus Cloud "loved" Tifa in the past and that was when the promise was important to him. When he stopped "loving" Tifa, it didn't matter to him to him anymore which is why she had to beg him to stay in AVALANCHE. First love is not eternal love.
