Title: What's Your Theme Song?
Kaldea - January 9, 2008 12:31 AM (GMT)
Everyone at some point or another finds a certain song that they feel sums up everything about them. It's not just a song you really like, but a song that you feel a certain connection with. More like an audio translation of you. Or in other words, what would be your theme if you were an RPG character? Post yours here and explain why. :fish:
Mine is definitely Golden by Incubus. When I first heard it as the ending credits song on their latest DVD, I HAD to find out if it had a name (it's 100% instrumental) and I needed to get it. Then I found out my fiance got me the DVD that didn't have the bonus CD that came with the songs so I went and got it myself. The song itself is amazing to me and I feel it sums me up perfectly. I'd post a YouTube link or something but there is no original on YouTube and I don't count covers of it. :fish:
The Man From Harold Wood by Matthew Good Band comes a very close second though. It's perfect little piano and random background noise gives me the same feeling.
Also Pathogens Born of Wormy Interludes by Incubus. Same as the first one.

Stabbing Westward - What do I have to do
Because I don't have a freakin' clue. That and the song's style reminds me of... me. Calm and quiet half the time, and loud, obnoxious and borderline crazy the other half. It just sounds like me.

In all honesty, I think mine would be "The Happy Song" by Liam Lynch.
Lyrically, it kind of reminds me of myself on how I can get really giddy and happy and make weird metaphors on it xD. The song is egotistic about indiviuality, which is a big (for lack of a better term) "character flaw" of me xD. Also, in the ending of the song it just changes to being a "SCREW YOU" attitude, which also reminds me of myself alot, surprisingly.
To quote the lyrics,
| QUOTE |
I am really special cuz there's only one of me look at my smile, I'm so damn happy, other people are jealous of me when I'm sad and lonely, I like to sing this song it cheers me up and shows me that I won't be sad for long
oh oh oh I'm so happy, I can barely breathe puppy dogs and sugar frogs and kittens, baby teeth watch out all you mothers, I'm happy, it's hardcore happy as a coupon for a $20 wh*re ha-ha-ha hah
I'm really happy, I'm sugar coated me, happy, good, anger, bad, that's my philosophy
I can't do this, man. I'm not happy.
I am really special, cuz there's only one of me Look at my smile, I'm so damn happy, other people are jealous of me These are my lovehandles, and this is my spout, but if you tip me over, then mama said knock you out
I am special, I am happy, I am gonna heave welcome to my happy world, now get your sh*t and leave I am happy, I am good, I am...
I'm Outta Here! Screw You! |
xDD.

Wow, there are so many songs I feel a connection with.
This one, I suppose... is the one I will choose:
Stand my ground
Artist(Band):Within Temptation
I can see
when you stay low nothing happens
does it feel right ?
Late at night
things I thought I put behind me
haunt my mind
I just know there's no escape
now once it sets it's eyes on you
but I won't run, have to stare it in the eye
Stand my ground, I won't give in
no more denying, I got to face it
won't close my eyes and hide the truth inside
if I don't make it, someone else will
stand my ground
It's all around
getting stronger, coming closer
into my world
I can feel
that it's time for me to face it
can I take it?
Though this might just be the ending
of the life I held so dear
I won't run, there's no turning back from here
Stand my ground, I won't give in
no more denying, I got to face it
won't close my eyes and hide the truth inside
if I don't make it, someone else will
stand my ground
All I know for sure is I'm trying
I will always stand my ground
Stand my ground, I won't give in (I won't give in)
I won't give up (I won't give up)
no more denying, I got to face it
won't close my eyes and hide the truth inside
if I don't make it, someone else will
Stand my ground, I won't give in
no more denying, I got to face it
won't close my eyes and hide the truth inside
if I don't make it, someone else will
stand my ground

Kissing Families by the Silversun Pickups. Not even the lyrics, but the general feeling you get when you listen to the song. The music fits my mood exactly. If that makes sense. XD;
Also, Polyphonic Spree's Reach for the Sun gets special mention.

Internal Dialogue by Maria Mena, I think, sums me up the best in terms of lyrics and the actual feel of the music--although it's a little too depressive to be a "perfect" theme song, so to speak, and I doubt it'd be my theme song in an RPG.
Apricot Sunset and Cinnamon Skies by Steven Cravis is my instrumental theme of choice as well as the cheerier of the two songs.
Honorable mentions go to both The Tower by Vienna Teng and Gravity by Maaya Sakamoto.

Michael Burns - The Ambience
Very peaceful trance tune. Anything with a smooth tranquil sound could describe me as a whole. I suppose when I'm with my friends I can be a pretty crazy outgoing guy, but when I'm at home, I love listening to this song, as I feel so peaceful and at ease when I hear it.

Winter - Tori Amos
It's the lyrics that are all over my LJ. I discovered the song when I was pretty young, and I've been listening to it for years.
It's the one song that I'll never be sick of.
p.s. I have been considering changing my name to "Winter" on here, I DUNNO MAYBE I WILL.

I'd say
The Escapist by Nightwish (link to the Wiki article). I haven't really ever explained why I think it sums me up well, but to me, personally, I think it does a great job.
There's also a song called Obvious by the boyband Westlife which had lyrics scarily exact to a situation I found myself in. It doesn't describe me how I am now, nor my life, but it did describe a period of my life very well.

Superchick: Stand in the Rain
aerislives - January 13, 2008 02:44 PM (GMT)
hmmmm
Mine changes to often back in my young and stupid days it was usually a eminem song being that we share the same name  but i never even listen to him anymore, too much language.
Then about 4 years ago it was Iris by the goo goo dolls still a great song but too many bad memories are attached to it now.
Now i guess it's Where is my mind by The Pixies. I Guess between watching Fight Club to much and other messed up stuff in my life has ingrained the song as my current theme.
And It's changed more often than that even just to many to list.

xDD
Everything is Alright by Motion City Soundtrack.
I don't know why but I just can't get enough of that song.
And I have little annoying habits that I do very often.
:P

Intervention by Arcade Fire. This clip of them playing on SNL was the first time I heard the song. I rarely watch that show, but an actor I liked was hosting. Then Arcade Fire played this song, and I immediately connected with the sound of it, especially the way it builds. Plus, the lyrics really illustrate some of my views and values.
Also,
All Apologies by Nirvana, especially this early version of it. I've loved this song for years now because it
feels like me. If that makes sense. Considering what happened to Kurt Cobain and the hindsight of looking back at this song, it might be too sad to really be my theme song. But just the song at face value suits me well, I think.

A shadow of yourself by Sirenia - The lyrics remind of me and my childhood.
Shallow by Poets of the Fall - I'm not quite sure of the reason. Guess the refrain is enough.
Tuhannet mun kasvot by Jenni Vartiainen - Actually the name of the song is enough to describe me. It means 'my thousand faces'.
Damaged - February 1, 2008 07:08 PM (GMT)
My theme song... that's kinda hard... Is it okay if I have two? If so
Stand in the Rain by Superchick and
Rokugatsu no Ame by Plastic Tree
