Title: Discrimination
Description: yeah it sucks...
Wintercream - December 7, 2007 05:04 PM (GMT)
Why can't people just be accepting of other people? Seriously it's so annoying and not only that it can really bring a person's self-esteem down. It's almost like, if your not how society wants you to be then you arn't accepted at all.
Take a look at what someone posted, not to long ago, on myspace.
I actually cried over this.

Why the #*@$% there is so many FUCKED up people out here just because there father fucked them when they was young? Why can't I talk to a girl without worrying about if its a real girl behind the computer? Why the #*@$% mothers and fathers isn't beating the living shit out of there gays and lesbians children for being who they are? Tell me why? why guys? the reason I'm asking is because the woman body is to #*@$%'ing beautiful to be passing that up to #*@$% another guy up the ass -_- the #*@$%'ing shit makes me sick to the stomach. and for you #*@$%'ing lesbians out there, it makes me sick how you can be a man hater just because some dickheads are dumb ass motherfuckers that can't grow the #*@$% up. and for the ones that turned gay or lesbian when you was so #*@$%'ing young....your the ones I hate the most..how the #*@$% could you say you love the same sex when your like 14,12, or 11?
If you feel strongly abut how I feel about Fags and lesbians and if it was up to me shit push them to the edge of a cliff and call it a night =] but if you have something to say then hit me up and repost this with my url to it. I want to know how many people that really would stick up for there selfs |
There are so many thing wrong with this person it's not even funny. I hope he knows that all forms of Hatred and Discrimination derive from fear. And not only discrimination against Gays/Lesbians, but against Jews, Blacks, Mexicans, Goths/Emos, and just plain everythin in general. Apparently if your not Blonde and beautiful then you don't belong in this world. It's sickening actually, how girls feel the need to be sluts to get attention from boys, and how boys think that big muscles are okay. Then people go ahead and kill themselves becuase of what they are and they can't be acepted. Personally, I think that this is the main cause for many suicides being committed.
Any thoughts?
I really hope there isn't a thread like this before.
>_>

Whoa, who are you quoting there? .___.;
Discrimination is pointless to me. Anyone you hate will end up in your family anyway.
illwaitforever1 - December 7, 2007 06:39 PM (GMT)
Oh wow, I feel like pushing whoever posted that on myspace over a cliff edge.
Gays, Lesbians and Bisexuals cannot help it. They are born like that. Over half of my friends are bisexuals, and I know many people who think it's wrong. And I tell them that they were born like that, they can't change it.
Discrimination is disgusting, there is no point to it. They have their beliefs, and the one's that are discriminating have their own beliefs. But they should keep it to themselves.
I've been discriminated because I'm a goth, and everyone calls me an emo. To be honest, I'm not suprised there are people who self-harm in the world, with people this horrible out there.
I could go on, but I'll stop now.
AugoraTheMateria - December 7, 2007 06:39 PM (GMT)
I agree with Zelda. Discrimination is pointless. I can get along with just about anyone. It all depends on their personality not their color, religion, or sexuality.
And that guy has some serious problems. I have a friend that bi and I'm okay with it. But this guy really needs to accept the fact there are going to gays and lesbians in the world and nothing can change that.

Somebody that decided to send me a "nice" message on Myspace becuase my profile says Im Bisexual.
And yeah Discrimination is pointless, it only shows how big of a coward you are.
But still people do it anyways. This guy just pisses me off to no end.

But sadly, people like him think it's right 'to spread the word of god' and justice or some sort of crap, onto people who are diffrent then themsevles.
Kaldea - December 7, 2007 06:58 PM (GMT)
People like that will have to deal with it in reality when they grow up and realize they can't be talking/thinking like that if they want a real job or career.
I think labels like goth or emo are completely different from race/sex/sexual preference discrimination though. They are fashion choices, not something you are born as. It's a way of expressing how you interpret yourself.
Sadhana - December 8, 2007 05:23 AM (GMT)
Look, this person is an ignorant bigot. Don't take their words to heart. Personally, I can barely understand believing that homosexuality is a choice (why would you choose to be discriminated against?), but actually HATING people for it? It's just too ridiculous to even worry about. Discrimination sucks, but such idiocy is only empowered by those who give credence to it.

Side note, I totally agree. Facing discrimination for choices you make such as your style of fashion are not of comparison to discrimination endured for things you can't help such as race, gender, or sexual orientation.
BulletProofMarshMellow - December 17, 2007 11:59 PM (GMT)
I absolutely cannot tolerate discrimination, whether the person who participates in such acts is joking around, or is serious. It's just rude, offensive--- and WHY... I just don't understand WHY some people say some of the things that they do. Everyone is different and unique in their own way, and even if they are different from what you are used to, everyone deserves to be treated nicely and given a chance to be a friend.
Seriously. What inspires people to hate so much? :/
Nothing But Values - December 18, 2007 04:04 AM (GMT)
Oh, I'll participate (though I don't have a good track record of keeping a topic going)
I have a strong opinion on this is all:
There are two things I see as the major contributions to a failing society: apathy and labels. For this topic, I'll concentrate on labels.
Just to make sure I'm clear to others I'll put what I mean by labels: Any word associated with a person(s) or object(s) that gives an implied feature. This includes look, reaction (attitude, etc), worth, so on.
How this applies to Discrimination: Our society (heck, each and every one of us including me) has a tendency to give ourselves or others a name that has nothing to do with their job or family (though prejudice could still exist there). Though seemingly harmless it's a rather socially-removed action. Negative effects of this could be: claiming superiority, suggesting a bad trait, suggesting an unchanging trait, etc. This leads to the mentioned discrimination. If looked at from person to person, there is indubitably discrimination against everything. If looked at a larger scale, so does the discriminated group get larger (such as one country hating another).
I agree prejudice comes from fear. In a way almost all actions can be boiled down to a fear of death. Anything that suggests superiority only protects you and lowers would be problems. Fear itself of problems often comes from ignorance of the potency of something. So in turn discrimination is just the tool of the ignorant to suppress those who might challenge their security in some way.
I'd like to add I'm against adding any label to yourself. ANY label. If nothing else, to maintain your unique identity. Using a label on yourself just shows your insecurity, so again is based on fear and in turn ignorance.
Sorry if I'm repeating someone or everyone.

WTH. Discrimination is like saying you hate everybody, because nobody is alike. The hell.
Although, yes, goth and emo-ness are a fashion choice.
There is a whisper in my head- I must confess- that says kill gay- as in homo- people. And I can't stop it.
Sadhana - January 7, 2008 06:14 PM (GMT)
Sky G. Strife:
Kaldea was just making a distinction between discriminating against goths or emos and being discriminated against for something you can't control like your race or sexual orientation.
As for your last statement, I don't think it's fair to say that you can't stop it. Unless you're dealing with a real psychological disorder where these whispers are outside your control (in which case, I would suggest you seek help immediately), then your own opinions are within your realm of control.
There is nothing wrong with gay people. My best friend is gay. Hell, considering that 30% of the guys at my university are gay (no exaggeration, we're considered the most gay friendly university in the country) I have met more than enough gay men and women to conclude that they are no different from straight people. They just make different choices, but it's THEIR choice, not your's or anyone else's. So the fact that anyone can weigh judgment on other people's personal choices so swiftly and decide that gays should either be killed or are going to hell just totally sickens me. And if a guy friend of your's started dating a girl that you strongly disapproved of, you wouldn't have the urge to kill him, would you?
Discrimination is the result of ignorance. So if you honestly do want to change your mind about gay people, attend a Queer and Allies meeting or just reach out a little to gay people you know. Meet them, be open-minded, and listen. Maybe you'll find yourself feeling differently about people who are no different than you except in sexual orientation.

Sky. G. Strife:
So what you are saying is that since you think Gays, Lesbians, and Bi-Sexuals (Such as myself) deserve to die becuase of what they choose? How does me being Bi-Sexual make me of a lower status then you are? Basically you contradicted yourself in your post becuase at first you say that Discrimination means you hate everyone and then you swing around and say that you have some voice in your head that tells you to kill gay people. As Sadhana said, either you ned some professional help for voices that you hear in your head that you cannot control, or you have some huge misconceptions about Gays, Lesbians, and Bi-Sexuals.
Obviously, you haven't meant or been friends with any to spawn such an iggnorant comment.
What if your best-friend told you tommorow he is gay? Would you have the urge to kill him and stop being freinds of him? There is no diffrence between Gays and straight people only their sexual orientation preference.
BTW, as Nothing But Values stated before discrimiation comes from fear. So you obviously have some fears to settle about Gays and the like.

lol wut.
Homophobia is a hatred for homosexuality that comes from being greatly discomforted or unsettled by it. Homophobia is a very common source of discrimination, and as someone else here said, discrimination comes from fear.
You should know that the problem isn't homosexuality or gay people, but your feelings towards them. If you were to put out any sort of effort to overcome that, it would be a huge step forward.
Besides, saying that you want to kill gay people is an incredibly broad statement. You say this as though you think that all gay people are obviously alike, and are all obviously bad people.
Haha, many, many people bear the misconception that all gay people are alike (butch lesbians, feminine men) and that too is a source of hurt for society in general. Boys don't like being accused of being gay just because they're feminine and tomboyish girls don't like being called lesbians.
In short? Those feelings aren't helpful at all. Society is fast moving and is slowly becoming more and more open to different and new ideas (although homosexuality is by no means new). You should open your mind a bit and let it go.
TheMachine - January 12, 2008 06:54 PM (GMT)
Figured I'd add my $.02 here. Discrimination is, of course, a bad thing. However I do often think it's overused too.
Didn't get the job you wanted?
Must be because you were discriminated against!
Didn't get approved for that loan?
The mortgage broker must be racist!
Car Salesman wouldn't give you a good deal?
He must be homophobic!
I think as a whole society is far more open and tolerant to different groups, races, religions, etc... than ever before and we continue to make good progress in this area. That doesn't mean we are perfect or that discrimination has been eliminated.. obviously that's untrue, but I do think a lot of people exaggerate it for their own gain. I'm a white guy, I look exactly like the stereotypical white guy.. which means I must never get discriminated against, right? Wrong. Despite the fact that I am an expert in the use of many different kinds of weapons and work out heavily, it is assumed that I am a weakling simply because I'm white and wear a suit and tie. "Oh look at the pussy white guy! White boy! Cracker! Pansy ass!"
I just let it slide when people treat me like that. Obviously their ignorant. I think other people ought to do the same wherever possible; just ignore the idiots and go about your life. If discrimination ever causes you real harm though, by all means it must be fought against. Just be careful to know the difference between discrimination and luck. Sometimes when applying for that job.. there really is someone better suited to it. Sometimes when buying that car, the dealership just won't go lower (in which case go to a different dealership).
And, uh, if you have voices in your head telling you to kill gay people.. you've got issues.
Another thing I'll add. I'm Christian, non-denominational. A lot of people say the Bible produces bigots and homophobes because it contains passages that declare homosexuality a sin... People who take that view (even Christians) are misinformed.
The Bible does say that being gay is a sin.. but so is adultery, eating pork, disrespecting your parents, etc. The whole point of the Bible is that EVERYONE is a sinner, and it is not our job to judge others, that is reserved for God alone. In other words I don't see being gay as anything inherently worse than other sins, and certainly not something that should be used to insult or belittle gay people. And everyone commits sin, therefore is equally messed up in the eyes of God. My favorite sin is gluttony. I eat more junk food than anyone I've ever met ;). That's no better or worse than being gay in my book.

I would be inclined to agree with this, because of course you are right. One is a choice and one isn't. But when you are still discriminated against for either of those, labels or your life, it seems the same when it gets too extreme.
This is something that happened at a neighbouring school. I apologise for using "labels" in the description, but it is how it was told to me. Goths were being physically attacked by the infamous British clique of "chavs." They were being attacked outside AND inside the school, during lunch hours and when entering/leaving school. It got to the point where the goths got to leave to go home about 20 minutes earlier than everyone else, for their own personal safety.
Now, I see this as discrimination and I see it as bad as someone being picked on for their race/sex/sexual preference. I'm not lowering the latter, I'm saying how bad the former is. That in this day and age you can get physically attacked because of how you choose to be (and for what you don't choose to be) is disgusting.
Of course, there will be labels who say bad things to other labels, and this is mostly down to immaturity. This probably isn't just quite as bad since it's easy to get over. But when it puts someone's safety at risk...
