Title: Did Aeris Know About Cloud's Feelings?
Description: Just think about it
Daga15 - December 2, 2007 09:47 PM (GMT)
I have been thinking, when we talk about Aeris we refer to her like a Cetra, the last survivor, but it is not really true. Aeris was a half Cetra, the other half she was human.
But, even if that is true i personally think that Aeris was not proud of being a Cetra, just the opposite: i can say that she would like to be a normal human being, and even that she hated being a Cetra, why?
When she was a child she tried very hard to deny she was a Cetra with Elmira. She did not wanted to be rare, extrange so she tried to hide it.
She knew that Shinra was after her because her blood was especial, they wanted her blood to make human being able to find the Promised Land, but she did not wanted to cooperate so he was always running away from them ( but because of tseng she was always safe, tseng did not wanted to harm her so he just made as he could not cacht her.
When she met Zack she did not tell him she was a Cetra, the same with Cloud. She knew that she was not normal, she was not an human being like the others and all she wanted was thas...to be normal.
I think that she thought that if Cloud, zack or other boy knew the true about her, they would not longer pay attention to her and that is why she was afraid of what she really was.
But Cloud...Cloud was diferent. With Cloud she could be like she was, without trying to hide it.
I personally dont know if Aeris knew that Cloud loved her, what do you think? i mean, never Cloud said a " i love you", gave her an hug or something like that, so maybe Aerith died without knowing how special she was for him : (
Thinking about it, what shows to Aeris the love Cloud felt for her?

Oh, lots of things.
The one moment that jumps out for me at the moment that clarified Cloud had strong feelings for her was in Cosmo Canyon...
Aerith: "I learned a lot. The elders taught me many things."
"About the Cetra... And the Promised Land..."
(She looks down)
Aerith: "I'm...... alone..... I'm all alone now..."
Cloud: "But I'm..... we're here for you, right?"
(She shakes her head)
Aerith: "I know. I know, but... I am the only.... Cetra."
Cloud: "Does that mean we can't help?"
(She looks away. Cloud gets up.)
I get the feeling that Aerith knew.
Also...Cloud's desire to meet her could also lend an *obvious* clue.
Plus...Cloud has Aerith living in his heart come AC...she has to know D:

I do think that Aerith knew how Cloud felt about her by the end of FFVII. Just think back to MOTP: she was beside Cloud in spirit during the entire game, he just didn't know. She could even feel his reaction to her death. She felt how the pain of losing her tore his heart apart. MOTP even says (I don't have the exact quote) that she was a little happy that he thought so much of her, but more sad for him than anything.
I think MOTP makes it clear that she was aware of his feelings for her. Not to mention AC, where the fact that he felt so incredibly guilty about letting her die was because he was in love with her. She lives on in his conciousness, she can feel his pain and grief, which IMO, makes it obvious that she understood his feelings for her.
Edit: here we go. From MOTP:
But a cry came through to her.
It wasn't the sound of her cry. If it was then she would have felt the blood gushing up through her throat and the fury that forced its way out from the depths of her soul - It was the sound of Cloud's heart cracking. It was the cry of his heart that could never be healed of the grief he had towards Aerith's death, the blame towards himself and the hatred he had for Sephiroth.
She was surprised at the great sorrow he had for her. She was a little happy that he thought so much of her but she also felt the pain that was many times greater. There was nothing she could do about Cloud's suffering and the pain ached in her heart.
The pain continued even though she was in the Lifestream
I think she knew right then that he was in love with her...

I think that, up to her death, there's a chance that Aerith didn't know just how strongly Cloud felt for her. (Though IIRC, the CC Ultimania hinted that Aerith has a very strong sixth sense, if not the ability to... er... "read minds", in a way.) The translation for MOTP makes it sound like she was taken aback by the sheer grief, fury and sorrow in Cloud's heart. If she'd known that Cloud was in love with her, surely that sort of reaction shouldn't have surprised her?
After her death, though, I do believe she's very well aware of Cloud's feelings. One of the perks of living in someone's consciousness, I guess.

Totally off-topic, but I've come to really believe this. Clerith-son and I were discussing this in another thread. I think that, because of all the horrible things that happened to Aerith precisely because of her Cetraness (face it, Hojo wouldn't have given her the time of day if she'd been a normal girl), her heritage has been something she's always tried to run away from. I forgot the details of her time with Elmyra, so thanks for that-- also, in CC, she sounds rather wistful about being "normal".
I view her development towards her Cetra heritage as Aerith's own little "subplot"-- kinda like the development of Barret, Cid etc. in their own personal stories. She goes from rejecting it in the early beginning of the game, to hesitantly wanting (or needing) to learn more about it when they leave Midgar, and she finally embraces her heritage and her responsibilities at the Temple of the Ancients. Then she dies, because her personal story arc is over.

Well, i think that with mopt ( something like this) aeris really knew Clouds feelings, you are right but i was talking just about the game, without advent children or the novels.
If we had not read the novel and see the movie, i think that i would believe Aeris died without knwoing Cloud loved her...
until the end of ff7 when she appeared again and cloud is very happy to see her.
She saved his life ( there are a lot of clotis who said that Aeris wanted Cloud to die to be with him, is not true).
Yes, with the novels it is clear that Cloud loved Aeris a lot, and Tifa, yes, she was a good friend but nothing more...
And about hating being a Cetra there are a lot of Clotis who said that Aeris was very happy being a Cetra and she thought she was superior to the others always talking about her and her heritage. That is completely FALSE.
If it was true, when Cloud asked her: Aeris, why Reno is after you? she could have said: " because i am a Cetra" but no, she just answered:
" i dont know...i think they believe i can enter Soldier ( something like this)"
And she did not told Zack , and the others...
i believe that if it was not because Elmira told avalanche the truth, aeris would have tried to avoid it.
In Cosmo Canyon, she learned a lot about Cetra and she realised she was alone, the only cetra lef.
And cloud told her that he was there for her (( i like this part, becausewhn tifa and cloud are alone in the 2cd, in the ending, Tifa said the same words:
- Cloud...i am alone.
- Yes, you are right. We are the only ones who have not a house os someone to come back to
( something like this)

I still think she had mixed feelings about it.
1. On the bad side: She was the last one. There was no one she could talk about things she may have heard from the Planet, or other things Cetras may talk about.
2. On the bright side: She seemed to like her connection to the Planet, and was happy to be able to help save the Planet. Also, chances are that being a Cetra is what allowed her to wander around freely in the Lifestream, which allowed her to keep on helping (This is, as long as MotP hasn't been retconned.).

I think she knew about Cloud's feelings.
He let it slip when they talked in Cosmo Canyon, right?
Also, on the Gold Saucer, she told Cloud (sorta) how she felt.
Maybe it moved Cloud or something?
