The girl pretty as flowers blooms in Zack’s mind.

The poor girl lives with her foster mother in 5th Street of the Slum. Although she’s purely innocent, there’s a sense of mystery that seems to foresee everything wraps around her. Being the last descendant of the Ancients, she was chased by Shinra. Her father was killed after 20 days of her birth and then she was confined in Shinra Building. At the age of 7, she lost her real mother. Even though Aerith’s life is full of disturbances, she brightly shows her positive behavior and makes her life not feel like misery. The destined encounter with Zack makes them becomes the irreplaceable existence to each other.

The first love
The chosen day, Zack suddenly fell from the roof of the Church in the Slum. His bright confidence immediately catches her mind, and they start a relationship as a couple. Furthermore, she never sends mails to Zack because she doesn’t have a cell phone.

The only survival of the Ancients in the world

Jenova, recognized as one of the Ancients when she’s found, is actually the alien species. Aerith is the only Ancient that exists. Besides, her father is Dr. Gast— namely a normal human, so only half of the Ancients’ blood flows away. Although Aerith’s ability is inferior to the pureblooded Ancients, she indeed inherits the mysterious power like “hearing the Planet’s voice” and “grasping the truth concealed deep inside people’s mind.” Therefore, she’s still chased by Shinra who longs for the Promiseland.

Selling flowers will richen both wallet and streets?

Aerith’s interest is taking care of flowers, but flowers rarely bloom in Slum because the sky is covered by the Plate. Aerith’s dream is to plant a lot of flowers around the Slum—for such a dream, Zack suggests that she should sell those flowers she plants, and not just around the Slum, but make the whole Midgar full of flowers. His plan that “If Midgar is full of flowers, then your wallet will be full too!” opens up a gate to a new world to Aerith.

Longing for being a SOLDIER: a Shinra’s young soldier

Cloud is an introversive youth who comes from Nibelheim, where Shinra first built the Reactor. Although he joined Shinra.’s troop for purpose of being a SOLDIER, he’s only hired as a normal soldier; Cloud agonized over his incapability. He meets Zack during the research mission at Modeel Vale, and becomes congenial friends because they all come from rural area. In front of Zack, whose kind to everyone regardless of age or status, Cloud opens his mind. He starts to learn various things from Zack, who is now his friend and also a SOLDIER that Cloud expects to be.

The promise with a childhood friend

Before leaving Nibelheim, Cloud declared that “I’ll be a SOLDIER” to a village girl, Tifa, whom he dimly fell in love with, and made a promise to protect her. Such pompous declare turns out to be failed—considering this, Cloud conceals his identity and cold sweat under his helmet when he confronts his hometown.

Being a SOLDIER in 1st Class, Sephiroth is the model for every young man at that time. Cloud is no difference; he dreams that one day he could become the existence like Sephiroth. For that matter, the reason relates to Cloud’s feeling isolated in the village. Because of shyness, he couldn’t join the circle of crowds no matter how. In order to cover his awkwardness, Cloud used to convince himself with the excuse that “I’m just special”, but then he made a determination of being a truly special one like Sephiroth. However, he fully realized how incapable he was soon after he left the hometown. He meets Zack when he’s quite frustrated.

Obviously, Cloud is the lead of FF7. In the beginning of FF7, he looks like a cool hero, but actually he’s simply unsociable and was dragged by the inferiority that “he could never be like Sephyroth.” His personality was formed not only by the intention of concealing such self, but also by the implanted Jenova cell which twisted what Zack went through as the base. In CC, Cloud’s weak side unfolds before us: it makes us realize the influence from Zack that affects Cloud.

Well, that solves a mystery for me. I was never sure if Cloud truly had a crush on Tifa as a child or if he just wanted to be accepted into her group because she was popular. Looks like he did have a crush on her when they were kids. This isn't surprising as she was the prettiest and most popular girl in Nibelheim. But the word "dimly" crushes any idea of "childhood sweethearts" or an "everlasting love starting in childhood". All it suggests is that Cloud had a crush on a girl he barely knew.

Rather than just empathy, it seemed to be an actual skill.

It seems that Cetras were capable of keeping actual conversations with the Planet, and capable of reading people's minds. However,

That would explain why she could only faintly listen to the Planet; we were never told she talked (or, at least, I do not remember) with it.

Moreover, that would imply that since the beginning, she somewhat knew Cloud wasn't what he pretended to be but, since she wasn't a pure Cetra, she couldn't tell for sure. My idea is that Cloud resembled Zack too much, and this confused Aerith; so, she decided to follow him, and find out why he was behaving like that, and why was he lying about himself.

What I like the most about that ability is that it shows that she wasn't just kind with everyone for the heck of it; she knew how they felt, and tried to do something - even if it didn't always go well, like with Barrett in the Gold Saucer.

I also liked reading another similarity between Cloud and Sephiroth - both of them think they are "special".

i always thought he had some kind of crush on her but i never thought he "fell in love with her" i know dimly is the key word here and when i looked up what it meat it sort of made more sense to me. It means that he fell for her without really knowing her properly right? so he fell for what he seen from a distance.

I doubt they'll even do that, HD. Sure, they'll reveal some other things, but that would just narrow down and give us more specific ideas of who-ends-up-with-who. Personally, if there's going to be another installation for the compilation, I hope they would reveal more about Aerith's childhood and her experiences under ShinRa, history about the Cetras, Jenova, Sephiroth...since CC didn't give much focus about those.

Also, are you sure Zack's height is 185 cm.? I am asking because that'd make him 6'2, and that's Sephiroth's height; Zack was not as tall as Sephiroth, was he? Moreover, I recall reading that Zack's height was 5'11; that'd make him 180cm. tall.

AHH Yuffie is one year older than me as well!! but yea i hope its a different sort of time line its weird thinking in terms of well these years.. but they really should include more about the Cetra and Jenova and of course Aerith.. it would be something new in the compilation beside repeating the Nibelheim scene each time

With the change of his frame of mind, Zack also changes his hairstyle. He’s in the position of instructing newcomers now.

The vacation in Costa Del Sol is over. Zack conquers the monsters which attacked Junon.

In order to find out the reason for the event of numerous monsters’ appearing, Zack visits Nibelheim.

After being used as human subject experiment, Zack and Cloud escape from Shinra Building.

The character who becomes the cause for the lead’s disguise personality

In FF7, Zack is deceased. He appears when Sephiroth reveals Cloud’s fragmental memory. Since Cloud already loses sight of his true self and mixes up his memory with Zack’s, Zack’s portrait is still wrapped in mystery. What kind of person is Zack? What specifically has he done? Such puzzles are answered in CC.

I'm so glad to see that square is portraying that Zerith was a young sweet 'i want someone to have around' first love not the 'zomgevalastinglurv' both rabid zeriths and clotis try and prove. I also thought that since square keeps refering to Zerith as a 'couple' not 'true love' or koibito lolz, that in itself proves that their relationship wasnt a full blown romance that lasts for enternity. The way I see it, I think that their relationship was very young and fresh, both experiencing 'love' for the first time.

IMO, SE doesn't mean to put CC in the same timeline as the real world. Besides, those added years are all recton, you know there's no definite year in the info of original Game, so I'll survive by ignoring this "fact". Moreover, there's is a Roman symbol placed before the year, like this (underlined part), so I guess it's not the same in B.C.~

... I like what I'm learning about Zack's character. Since he's going to be fleshed-out regardless, I'm glad he's a character that I can be fond of. He's got conflicting emotions, he's lost people that he cares about, yet remains optimistic. I can't wait to play CC, and see how Zack matures throughout the game. He starts off a little arrogant, sort of simple-minded, then grows to be very mature. Yes, I love Zack a lot.

The verb means "communicate" or "send" in general. When it refers to men's feelings, it means "realize each other's feelings to some degree". I consulted one of my Japanese friends, who gave a good explanation:

The "communicate" in the context actually is "communicated", it's in past tense, which makes the line mean "after communicating their feelings, they lived together." But if you use "communicate" in this text, you would simply get the feeling of "they are still communicating" or "they're trying to communicate" in English, not what the context tries to show. So I'd rather say "they came to realize their feelings and then live together in AC and DC." To me, what they already realized is more important than the meaning of this verb.
Besides, though the word "Omoi" means a lot and could be "affections" here, but the verb and the context would show what this noun refers. If there's no related context mentioning "love" in the article, I think it's safer to explain it as "feelings" in English.

No. There isn't anything to indicate that they're together romantically. The quote doesn't say they came to realize their feelings for eachother, just their feelings in general. And then they live together, which we know they did up until AC, and, apparently, in DoC... I see no romance here.

See, everything should be seen neutrally; Cleris or CloTi tidbit. Since Square did say everything was up for all the possibilities!
