Title: More Water Symbolism

When I was watching AC and first saw the drop of water that indicated Aerith's presence, my mother told me something interesting. She said the goddess Kwan Yin uses a holy water to indicate her presence. Is it me or is their a connection here?

Holy water is also used in cleansing rituals in certain Christians denominations, right? I figure it's because water, in general, is associated with life, rebirth, revival and all that good stuff. So Aerith = water seems less to do with particular deities (though, notably, she's rather deified in AC and the water symbolism could add to that) than water symbolism itself.

But I'm rambling now. :sweat: It would be pretty cool if Aerith were similar to Kwan Yin in other ways. It could lend more credence to their possible parallel. Does your mom have any other info about this goddess? :)

It could also be considered the opposite of Sephiroth.

Holy is summoned by Aeris, Meteor by Sephiroth.

Sephiroth is shown quite a few times in fire and Aeris is portrayed as water.

If Aeris and all that is good is the lifestream and all that are tainted, Jenova, and Sephiroth are the black lifestream.

Aeris is the cleansing water and Sephiroth and Jenova are Geostigma.

Aeris = Good and Sephiroth = Evil

Sephiroth = Cloud's darkness and Tifa = Cloud's Light... Wait a sec...

Even without the symbolism, when did that theory ever make sense? :lol:

Lynn, what do you want to know about Kwan Yin? She's always saving people that get themselves in a bind. (kinda of like Aerith saving Cloud when he almost died). She also doesn't live in entirely in heaven, and is "stuck" between heaven and earth. But if you have any questions, tell me and I'll ask my mom.
