Description: a tip when reading angsty fanfics

i dont know whether this is the right place to post this or not so if it doesnt belong here than you can just move it!

i dont know if any of you have tried this or not but while your reading really angsty fanfics (ex:Dearly Beloved, never forever ,etc.) try playing music like aerith's theme (i suggest the piano version for added effect) and other music of the like. It really brings on the angst and it almost made me cry :( (key word here is "ALMOST")

funny story :lmao: :
I actually tried this out once in a cafe near my house. so i was listening to the piano version while i was reading Dearly Beloved and when i was about 1/3 away from finishing it my eyes were practically close to tears  but being a guy B) i needed to suck it up (not to mention there was like 12 other people there and 5 of them were my friends/dotamates) so i had to like turn my head set off... so one of my friends actually noticed that my nose was a bit red and my eyes were a little puffy so i told him, "WALA YAN TOL, MALAMIG LANG TALAGA SAKA PARANG MAY LAGNAT AKO" (roughly translated: That's nothing Bro, it's juz a little cold and i think i have a fever"

am i being a little too sensitive  ........... YEAH RIGHT :lmao: !!!

Oh, I do that all the time! Not only with fanfics, really with any kind of writing (except instructional literature like textbooks). The thing about art is that it can act as a medium for emotional expression. So when you're reading anything emotional, listening to music of the same emotion at the same time adds to that sentimental experience you're receiving.

As a writer, I'm always listening to music of a similar mood to what I'm writing at the time. It inspires, and makes the process of expressing that mood more fluid. So yeah, you're definitely not the only one who does this. ^_^

*giggle* It's so funny for me to imagine a DOTA-loving guy who can also cry over a fic! Funny in a good way, that is :) My little brother pulled that same "nah, I'm just sick" excuse when we were watching 'Grave of the Fireflies' together...I didn't call his bluff because I was so amused that he was actually being sensitive XD

And yes, I also play music while reading fics, especially the shippy ones! It's such a good medium that I have 'theme' in my mind for most of my favorite fictional couples- like "Wonderwall" for Sousuke and Kaname for example. Or "Iris" for Cleris, or "I Hate Everything about You" for Seifer/Quistis :P

I do that too! But sometimes, the weirdest kind of music inspires me to write! Even if it has nothing to do with what I'm writing, I'm still inspired. Like I listen to the 'Les Miserables' soundtrack when writing Narnia fic...who can explain why?

I do listen to music while reading manga or fanfictions. I haven't done it with books because I want my full attention on the book and not the music.

^ Yeah, I do that too.

Actually, it depends on the book. Sometimes I can tune out the music and not pay attention to it, but I can still hear it. O.o

Yes, that is good advice. However, I myself prefer crying. The tension here is killing me.
