FFIV has been remade so many times it's painful, but the fact is, every single remake seems to have been worse than the original. Here's a list of the big remakes and how they sucked.

FFIIus - Very dumbed down, less options, bad translation, ridiculous censors.
FFIVET - Even more dumbed down than FFIIus.
FFIV Chronicles - LOADING LOADING SMASHING, poorly made cutscenes, translation made just not to be the FFIIus translation, instead of being good.
FFIV Wonderswan - Obscure console choice, broken battle engine, a number of killer glitches.
FFIV Advance - Even more glitchy and broken than FFIV WS, including one that can outright delete all your saves. Party switching broke the plot, plus it was really only for Lunar Ruins, and LR sucked except for Kain's trial.

However, this new DS version looks to have everything right from the original version, plus a few new features that seem not to suck either. Among those announced are:
More development on the plot and characters, especially as regards Kain.
Full CGI cutscenes WITH voices, no half ass attempts like FFIVC.
Options to have party members that you lost give their powers to the ones in your party, keeping the plot intact.
A new ally called "Poochika" which you can manipulate with the stylus and give powers of Rydia's monsters. Not sure how this works yet, so I'm a little apprehensive.
Stronger enemy AI, especially those bosses that die too easy.

The character CG art is amazing. I wish they did a game with THOSE graphics, even though I love what they did with the DS version of FFIII. I have absolute faith in how this one will turn out.

Still waiting for Squenix to do an FF remake (since they seem to be on the Remake Wonderland Tour) with more realistic-style graphics, though. :/ I'm sure it's easier to just use the graphics engine they've already made (FFIV with FFIII's graphic engine) but still, can't one hope?

I wish they would remake FFIV and FFVI for the PS3 or something instead of little hand-held consoles like the PSP and DS.

I LOVED FFIV and can't wait for the remake. Rydia and Kain are definitely among the ranks of my favourite FF characters. The plot of IV was brilliant with many unique points and development, I thought having the Moon as a world map was very ahead of its time for RPGs.

Rydia looks absolutely gorgeous in that CG picture, her outfit has been redesigned nicely, I'm also looking forward to playing a battle with five party members again.

Personally, I prefer they make these games for the DS. The touch screen is so much fun to use. :lol: The DS is an awesome system. <3

I do as well Kaldea, I also think it does the games justice that they don't remake them in total full Playstation 3 style 3D. The Nintendo DS graphic style does still remind me of the old 8/16 bit games.

Oh, I'm sure the DS is a really fun system. Least, it was pretty fun when I tested it out playing Mario Kart. I think I just prefer playing RPGs on a bigger screen.

The characters look even more kiddish in this version. I think it's the whole 'big head and little legs' thing they have going on. Not too surprising, I guess, since it's for the DS. The cutscenes look absolutely stunning though. It was neat seeing bits of this game in that style...but what I found absolutely fascinating was that they'd put words into Rosa's theme. So pretty!!! IMHO, SE would reel in a lot of cash if they remake FFIV and FFVI for the PS3 some time in the future when the system's price goes down.

I would have rathered this and VI on the PSP though. I don't think S-E should use SD characters if they can help it. I guess since the DS' resolution isn't very high they have to make the characters like that.(So you can see their facial and other smaller features more) Either that, or they've decided any FF they make for Nintendo is going to be chibi'ed out.

At first I was thinking "Wow, Edge looks cool"... then I realized, he looks just like an older, silver haired, 3D version of Sasuke sporting a Kakashi look... And it looks like he learned to double up on the Fuuma Shuriken. ^_~

Just saw the new trailer too - love most of the voices (though I wasn't really pleased with Edge's) and the last fmv at the end was HOT.

When I saw CG Edge, he made me think of Kakashi. But hey, if I get this, I'm most reassured that he'll be fun.

With the scans, I guess it solves the pronounciation for some characters' names, particularly Rydia. (I always use 'Ride-ia' instead of 'Ree-dia')

I think it is Reed-ia. You know the Japanese and their pronunciations. o.O;;

It took me a few years to learn that Street Fighter's Ryu wasn't pronounced Rai-Yu it was Ree-Yu.

And I still call her Ride-ia either way. =P

That's correct; the scans show the characters' names in katakana and I can read them, since I'm studying Japanese.

Soo... I'm still using 'Ride-ia' over 'Reed-ia'.
